To Follow Your Head or Your Heart? show art To Follow Your Head or Your Heart?

Flip It

I have been at a complete crossroads for a little while now. I describe it like one of those you find in the outback of Australia. Where you can see for miles and miles either way, yet you have no idea what might be on the horizon of either – so you just stay sat in the middle sweating it out under the scorching sun, until you fall into a complete and utter burnout. And burn I did.  You see, when you feel so drained and exhausted, your decisions feel muddled and so you ask everyone around you for their advice – well at least this is what I did. But for every nugget of wisdom that was...

Healing From Abandonment show art Healing From Abandonment

Flip It

What comes to mind when you hear the word 'abandonment.' Perhaps, it takes you back to a difficult time and place in your childhood. Maybe you recall a story you heard on the news of a baby being left on the doorstep. Perhaps it reignites the pain you felt when your partner left you for someone else. Or maybe the humiliation you felt the time you spoke up at work and were immediately shut down. No matter what kind of picture the word abandonment paints - feelings of being left behind, unlovable and unimportant can infiltrate every relationship you encounter.  The word abandonment hadn't...

It's Never Too Late show art It's Never Too Late

Flip It

Have you ever looked at someone else's life and wished it was yours? Maybe you feel stuck, unfulfilled and as though you are just going through life on autopilot. Or perhaps you have a longing for something more, but think that it’s all too late for you.  We are conditioned to think that the way to win at life is to have a 2.4 family, a stable job and a nice house with a garden, so why is it that so many of us who seemingly have all of this, are unhappy?  It was a question that kept nagging away at my guest for this week, who at the beginning of the second half of her life, made...

What Is Love? show art What Is Love?

Flip It

It’s something so intrinsic to our very being, yet at the same time, almost impossible to define.  From the moment we enter the world, to the moment we depart it, love is the one thing that we all search for. Like the air we breathe, we cannot live without it. We seek it in people, places and things, yet the purest form of love surely demands nothing in return and must be nurtured from within first.  My own relationship with love has been complicated and was tested a few years ago, when my heart was broken in ways I didn’t even know was possible. Like a tsunami, it engulfed me...

Flip It

There has to be a reason why we risk having our hearts broken over and over again, when the experience is enough to leave you fighting for survival.  The narrative of heartbreak is woven into our life from childhood. The cartoons, books, TV shows and films we are exposed to are littered with stories of love and loss. Rejection - The Rewards of Rejection With Patty LaRoche show art Rejection - The Rewards of Rejection With Patty LaRoche

Flip It

It’s a story we could all write, it’s a script we have all read and it’s a page that all of us will turn again. The plot is centred around the universal experience of Rejection.  Why me?  What’s wrong with me?  Why wasn’t I enough?  What was it about me that they didn’t like?  The sting of rejection can wound the most resilient of souls and can leave you questioning the very fabric of your being. But the truth is not all of our dreams are meant to be fulfilled and we are not everyone’s ‘cup of tea.’ But even more true, is that when one door closes...

Lost and Found With Tansy Jane Dowman show art Lost and Found With Tansy Jane Dowman

Flip It

Most of us go through moments of feeling as though something isn’t quite right - as though perhaps we have taken the wrong path. But when the path you had been walking suddenly hits a dead end without warning, it can leave you completely and utterly bewildered.  When we feel lost, we can feel a million miles away from where we once were or where we want to be. We look for the answers in places, people and things in the hope that we will be shown the way back.  But there is one place, a place that if we pay attention to and greet with curiosity, we can find all the answers we ever...

More Episodes

Welcome to my first solo episode of Flip It!

Throughout my life I have experienced different kinds of losses. Some through a death and others through an ‘ending.’ Some of those endings have been intentional and others have been completely out of my control.

But, through my own exploration and desire to process them, I am realising that each loss has shown me a new path, which has been paved with unexpected gifts.

I hope that by sharing a little more about my own story and experiences with grief, it may help you to feel less alone in your own journey, and to know that with every ending there is always a beginning.
