Painting the Face show art Painting the Face

As women, we are often taught early to "paint the face"... to look happy, to be pretty, to hide the pain.  We learn in the process that the natural us is unacceptable, less happy, less pretty, something to hide.  In the unraveling, many of us reach a point where we just don't want to paint any longer.  What we do with that determines our futures, can impact relationships, and creates a strength or weakness in our relationships with ourselves.  In this episode, I'm sharing how an unexpected connection made me take a long look at my own paint. Can you find the threads in your story that built your protective armor but now seem to be weighing you down? I found a key thread in my story through a recent trip to Disney and a Jennie Allen book on the plane ride home.

Once you see those threads in yourself, you can't unsee them. But unraveling the threads takes a little next level focus and reflection on your life. Getting clean with your threads will change your future and create strength in your reset.

My thread: "I wasn't picked (insert special, noticed, valuable)"

That led to: overachieving to be noticed, letting my value come from "picked and seen" by accolades and achievements, and an extreme attachment in my 5-year-old daughter.

What threads built you?

And what threads contributed to your unraveling?

What are you most proud of? Why?

Where do you turn for strength?
