Acting
In 2017, Joel made his acting debut in Channel 10’s new Comedy Drama ‘Sisters’ alongside a stellar cast including Magda Szubanski, Lucy Durack and Catherine McClements, and in 2018 he made his soap debut on Neighbours. Joel entered the world of theatre in 2020, performing the role of George in ‘The Boy, George,’ a hilarious one-man play he co-wrote and co-produced with Richard Carroll.
Writing
Joel penned his first memoir, Simon & Schuster-published ‘THIRSTY: Confessions of a Fame Whore’, which he dedicated to the late Joan Rivers. Like Joel, Thirsty is acerbically funny, and full of his most personal, hilarious, joyous, heartbreaking, outrageous, ridiculous and scandalous stories.

A self-described shameless ‘fame whore’, Joel is an Australian entertainment staple, Joel won GQ Comedian of the Year in 2016, Best Presenter at the 2017 LGBTI Awards, and was selected as one of Cosmopolitan’s top 50 influential LGBTQI voices in their inaugural Rainbow List.

Joel won a legion of fans when he appeared in the first Australian season of I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of here, raising funds for his charity Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation in 2015. In 2017, Joel was selected as ambassador for Skyy Vodka’s #CheerstoEquality campaign.
