Despite being raised with many close family members affected by hemophilia (brothers, cousins, uncles), treatment was especially difficult for Timothy because he comes from a family of Jehovah's Witnesses, who typically do not believe in blood transfusions of any kind. This episode also helps the listener gain insight on what it was like to have hemophilia before prophylaxis and what it was like to live during HIV/Hepatitis outbreak of the 1980s.
