What Is Embodiment? How Embodiment Found Me (Jenna’s Story) show art What Is Embodiment? How Embodiment Found Me (Jenna’s Story)

School of Embodied Arts Podcast with Jenna Ward

How Embodiment Found Me (And Changed Everything) Embodiment has a way of finding us, whispering quietly and planting a curiosity inside us—often long before we even know what the word means.  That was true for me. Back when I was a hospital pharmacist, I had no concept of “embodiment.” But something in me longed for more. My body was trying to tell me that what I was living… wasn’t it. I was sick—literally—Monday through Friday. I did all the tests, took all the medications, but the nausea wouldn’t go. My body knew. I was sick of the system I was part of. I didn’t know...

School of Embodied Arts Podcast with Jenna Ward

If you’re craving more depth in your own embodiment or in the spaces you hold with clients, vulnerability is non-negotiable.  It’s the key that opens us up to real intimacy and true transformation. When someone shares vulnerably with me—whether it’s a client, colleague or my child—I know we’ve reached the gold.  We’re no longer hovering on the surface. We’re in rich, honest territory. But vulnerability can be confronting. It asks us to feel the tenderness, shame, or discomfort that many of us were taught to avoid. And so, we’ve developed clever strategies—mostly...

This energy, this force, this dimension that so many of us feel called to… but struggle to define.  It’s the missing piece, the thing we crave more of—yet, so many are also uncertain:  Is the feminine harmful?  Is it just some new-age fluff?  And how do we navigate these gendered terms if we’re not about old-school binaries? As an intersectional feminist, deeply committed to liberation for all bodies (including from gender norms) I’ve been in this contemplation, too. For years.    In this episode, we’ll explore:  The heart of the feminine:...

How can we work DEEP in the body without ‘blowing up’ someone’s trauma?

Almost all somatic practitioners (including embodiment coaches) I work go through a phase of feeling super worried about activating latent trauma & triggering a client. This is a conversation I have with women a lot.

Sometimes, this fear manifests as an extreme over-abundance of caution, need to “get it right” & hyper-fixation on strategies.

This results in practitioners holding themselves back from deepening into sensation - to everyone’s detriment, especially the clients.

Today on the podcast we’re speaking with Somatic Psychotherapist & founder of The School of Integrative Somatic Psychotherapy Monique Pangari about somatic approaches to trauma-centric therapy and what practitioners need to know if they are worried about activating latent trauma (plus so much more).

Monique's training & experience is vast & in this conversation, we explore:
-    Examples of somatic strategies to support clients in a trauma therapy setting
-    Why embodied approach are deceptively simple & some of the core components for practitioners to make them work well
-    The difference between trauma therapy, therapy & coaching
-    What practitioners need to know if they are worried about activating a client’s trauma
-    The importance of rupture & repair for practitioners
-    Attachment styles & the work Monique created for counsellors & psychotherapists
