- The Baseball Reminiscence Program is virtual and began October 28, 2020
- The Program began in 2009-UCONN Professor Michael Ego started it to help dementia patients be more engaged
- Michael went to Scotland to see how a similar program utilizing British FUTBOL was run
- Michael Ego established his program in Greenwich, CT using American Baseball
- The Program opens with the Pledge of Allegiance and continues with baseball references
- Seniors react well to the program, smiling, enjoying it
- 60 percent of participants are women, a goal is to have more men involved
- Joe Loglisci took over the facilitation and structure of the program in 2020
- The format lasts approximately 45 minutes to an hour
- The lesson plans cover spring training, which many audience members have attended in various cities/states
- The World Series is also discussed with specific details including moments in history- participation is aggressive and attendees have shown their true enjoyment
- A "seventh-inning stretch", with the song “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” is included, attendees sing along and remember the lyrics
- The game hangman is also played with answers related to baseball
- The Program design is intended for memory care patients; however, those without cognitive challenges also be joining the program. The idea is to meld the group
- Facilities with whom Joe Loglisci partners have been asked to participate in the launch
- Props may also soon be added to the mix
- Professional players are being considered to join the program and Joe has a contact to discuss with baseball players from the Dominican Republic and the United States
- Michael Ego, at one point, had a group chartered to Shea Stadium and the participants sat in box seats and were given Mets baseball bats to take home
- Joe works with Connecticut Nursing Services, ctnursingservice.com a private duty nursing home care company based in CT, look for them in other states as well
- Joe’s love of baseball began in Stamford, CT in 1978 where he was placed into the Baseball Hall of Fame as athlete of the year. Joe also played in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and became a scout for the New England markets
