Statement of Need
This podcast will address the role of GLP – receptors in the treatment of pediatric obesity. As the prevalence of pediatric obesity is on the rise, the need for effective, evidence-based treatments is essential. This increase in pediatric obesity is associated with numerous health complications for the pediatric patient including type 2 diabetes, hypertension and cardiovascular diseases. Early intervention in the pediatric patient and management can prevent the progression of obesity with the goal of improving the long-term health of these individuals.
Objectives
- Define pediatric obesity.
- Discuss the key aspects of GLP – 1 receptors and their use of treatment of the pediatric patient.
- Explain the mechanisms and criteria for patient selection for GLP – 1 as a treatment option for obesity.
