Monster Kid Radio

One of Derek's favorite things about producing Monster Kid Radio is when he gets to watch a new-to-him monster movie. That is exactly what happened this week when author David Annandale returns to the podcast with The Flesh Eaters (dir. Jack Curtis). There are so many elements coming together in this movie - the creator of DC Comics' Doom Patrol, a "Speed Racer" voice actor, an actor with a decidedly German accent believably playing an American, mad science, creatures, and shocking blood.

Ricardo and Derek discuss this iconic film, break down WHY it's iconic, and how it influenced the course of the rest of the monster movies to come after it. On top of that, Kenny also has another amazing Look at Famous Monsters of Filmland this week!

Not every monster kid movie maker saved the movies they made with their friends when they were a kid, but Rob Hampton did, and we're better for it! Rob is the co-director of Super 8 Daze (with co-director John Morgan), and this week, he joins Derek for a conversation about his background, his career, and much more. Kenny also has his Look at Famous Monsters of Filmland, and it's also time to announce, and thank, July's Patreon Executive Producers.

We have Listener Feedback as well, plus Kenny's Look at Famous Monsters of Filmland.

Disney, Indiana's Tracey Morris steps outside the House of the Mouse this week for a stop by Monster Kid Radio to discuss 1940's The Invisible Woman (dir. A. Edward Sutherland). What do they see in this film? Insert obvious joke about not being able to see anything here. Kenny also returns this week with a special Look at Famous Monsters of Filmland.

More Episodes

Last weekend was the 2014 H. P. Lovecraft Film Festival & CthulhuCon, and Monster Kid Radio was there! For three days, Lovecraft fans took over Portland's Hollywood Theatre for feature films, short movies, author readings and signings, panel discussions, madness-inducing parties...so basically just a really good time! Derek was a small part of the show this year as he was asked to introduce the 1968 film Curse of the Crimson Altar (dir. Vernon Sewell), as well as participate in one of the panels. Between events, Derek caught up with old and new friends, and in this episode of Monster Kid Radio, you'll hear some of those conversations. First, Derek spoke with author David Agranoff about his recent books (Boot Boys of the Wolf Reich, Hunting the Moon Tribe) and where you might find a horror host or monster influence in them. Then, Derek spoke two composers whose work has had a home on his iPod for years - Troy Sterling Nies and Reber Clark. They're two of the four composers behind the excellent album Out of the Aeons: Music for a New Dark Age. Finally, Derek checks in with Monster Kid Radio regulars Ray Jelinek and Chris McMillan for their thoughts on this year's festival.
