With help from the OT time machine, we turn back the clocks to late 2025, where Felix caught up with Havid Nagan, founder of Aren Bazerkanian in Dubai. Thanks to the awesome power of the sun, causing the camera to overheat, this chat is a little shorter than usual. Still, Aren gave Felix an update on how Havid Nagan has been growing, and teased some plans for Origins, a more accessible offering from the US-based independent. This week, we’re really locked in on watches that you can actually afford without taking out a small personal loan or a non-essential organ. Andy and Felix start off by chatting about some recent bangers from Timex, Bulova and Seiko, before jumping into the main chat with co-founder of Earthen, Johnathan Chan. Earthen is a fresh face from Hong Kong, but its accessibly priced ceramic pilot’s watches drew a lot of attention when they launched earlier this year. We chat to Chan about the story behind the brand, the finer details of ceramic watches and why accessible pricing matters. ...

info_outlineOn the 26th of October, 2017, after 12 minutes of bidding, a Rolex Daytona reference 6239 that belonged to legendary actor Paul Newman was sold for $17,752,500 USD (including premiums). It’s widely regarded as the most significant watch auction to date, not just for the hammer price achieved, but for the significance of the watch. In the room was James Cox, who, for decades, wore that watch on his wrist.
That was nearly three years ago now, so we thought it was high time to catch up with James and revisit the story of ‘Paul Newman’s Paul Newman’, how it ended up on James’ wrist. We talk about what he’s done with the millions of dollars (hint: making the world a better place), why even he can’t get a new Daytona at retail, and what watch has replaced the most famous Rolex in the world.
This episode is made possible by Swiss Typefaces.
