Behind every footballer, there is the person. The former gets judged, often without the latter ever coming into question. Hopes, dreams and emotions are all reduced to games, goals and assists. People aren’t defined by their profession, regardless of how high profile it may be. The more you get to learn about the man behind the shirt, the more you’ll be surprised by the depth of their character.

Following up a legacy like that of Matt Le Tissier is an impossible task. Football moves on however and so to did Southampton, into a different era in every sense of the word. There are also – however briefly – spells at four different clubs, the majority of which at pivotal points in their history. One of which includes perhaps the most graphic tale of a dressing room bust up you’ll ever hear. All of this and more comprises the story of a man who was much more interesting than someone who just put the ball in the back of the net.
