445 – WIW – Coming Together In The Church

Announcing:

“How to Read the Bible” Online Zoom Class

Starting September 21 and ending November 16, the class will be held on Saturday Mornings from 10 a.m. to 12 noon Eastern Time Zone. It is partially pre-recorded and partially live. You can attend the class live on Zoom. There will be question-and-answer and discussion times during the sessions.

In this class, we will use the laws of English grammar and oriental customs to learn how to read the Bible, how we got it, how it interprets itself, to whom it is written, and how we got our modern Bibles.

To participate in the class, you must donate at least $25 monthly to Steve Jaynes' Ministry. For your convenience, you can donate on Steve's website, https://stevejaynes.com, with a donate button at the top of every page. You can also mail your donation or personally give it to Steve.

The Notes from the Podcast

God bless you. Below are all the Scriptures written out and my notes so you can follow along with the podcast.

1 Corinthians 14:12 “Even so ye, forasmuch as ye are zealous of spiritual gifts, seek that ye may excel to the edifying of the church.”

1 Corinthians 11:17 – 20 “Now in this that I declare unto you I praise you not, that ye come together not for the better, but for the worse. ¹⁸ For first of all, when ye come together in the church, I hear that there be divisions among you; and I partly believe it. ¹⁹ For there must be also heresies among you, that they which are approved may be made manifest among you. ²⁰ When ye come together therefore into one place, this is not to eat the Lord's supper.”

When the church came together, there were some problems.

1 Corinthians 11:21 & 22 “For in eating every one taketh before other his own supper: and one is hungry, and another is drunken. ²² What? have ye not houses to eat and to drink in? or despise ye the church of God, and shame them that have not? What shall I say to you? shall I praise you in this? I praise you not.”

Problem when coming together to eat.

1 Corinthians 11:23 -32 “For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread: ²⁴ And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me. ²⁵ After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me. ²⁶ For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come. ²⁷ Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. ²⁸ But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup. ²⁹ For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body. ³⁰ For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep. ³¹ For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged. ³² But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.”

Some problems arose in the communion service, such as remembering what Jesus Christ had accomplished for us.

1 Corinthians 11:33 “Wherefore, my brethren, when ye come together to eat, tarry one for another.”

They needed to learn how to care for one another.

1 Corinthians 12:1 – 6 “Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant. ² Ye know that ye were Gentiles, carried away unto these dumb idols, even as ye were led. ³ Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost. ⁴ Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. ⁵ And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. ⁶ And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.”

1 Corinthians 12:4 – 6: “Now there are diversities [different ways or kinds] of gifts [These are not gifts of the spirit but gifts of services to the body of Christ.], but the same Spirit [The same spirit that each Born Again person receives when they get baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. It is the new birth spirit.]. ⁵ And there are differences of administrations [Differing varieties and ways of distributing services.], but the same Lord. ⁶ And there are diversities of operations [There are differences in the ways it works. The word operation is the word worketh.], but it is the same God which worketh all in all.”

Steve Jaynes added the words in between the brackets [ ] to help you understand the meaning of the Scriptures. I do the same whenever I use the brackets within Scripture, like above.

Verses 7 – 11 Are about the Manifestations

Verses 12 – 27 Are about The One Body.

1 Corinthians 12:27 – 31 “Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular. ²⁸ And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues. ²⁹ Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles? ³⁰ Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret? ³¹ But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way.”

The better way is the way of love.

1 Corinthians 13 is sometimes called the Love chapter.

1 Corinthians 13:13 “And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.”

1 Corinthians 14:1 – 5 “Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy. ² For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries. ³ But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort. ⁴ He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church. ⁵ I would that ye all spake with tongues, but rather that ye prophesied: for greater is he that prophesieth than he that speaketh with tongues, except he interpret, that the church may receive edifying.”

Verses 6 -11 Somes problems with S.I.T. In the Church.

1 Corinthians 14:12 – 15 “Even so ye, forasmuch as ye are zealous of spiritual gifts, seek that ye may excel to the edifying of the church. ¹³ Wherefore let him that speaketh in an unknown tongue pray that he may interpret. ¹⁴ For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful. ¹⁵ What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.”

1 Corinthians 14:18 & 19 " I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye all: ¹⁹ Yet in the church I had rather speak five words with my understanding, that by my voice I might teach others also, than ten thousand words in an unknown tongue.”

Verses 20 -25 Handling some more problems in the church.

1 Corinthians 14:26 “How is it then, brethren? when ye come together, every one of you hath a psalm, hath a doctrine, hath a tongue, hath a revelation, hath an interpretation. Let all things be done unto edifying.”

Verses 27 -39 Handling still more problems in the church.

1 Corinthians 14:40 “Let all things be done decently and in order.”

The person running the meeting is responsible for seeing things run decently and in order.
