God 521 – Reviewing of Paul's Writings pt 2 Can you imagine living in the first century Church? And you were at a fellowship, and someone came in with a letter from Paul. And read it to the group. That must have been an exciting time. Paul's letters, or Epistles, were circulated, meaning they were passed around to all the churches. Would it matter the order in which you read them?  No, I don't think so. You would just have to use scripture buildup to add to each Epistle to get a more complete understanding of the subject. Like, today we're going to look at the spirit. 2 Timothy 3:16...

525 – Knowing Your Election of God

You can follow along with my notes as I read the Scriptures below.

Do you know the dignity that you have? That's what we're gonna look at today. God has made you his son. It's Christ in you. You can do the works of Jesus Christ in Greater. And many other precious promises are available to you. We're gonna to start in investigating this today.

1 Thessalonians 1:2 – 4 “We give thanks to God always for you all, making mention of you in our prayers; 3 Remembering without ceasing your work of faith, and labour of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, in the sight of God and our Father; 4 Knowing, brethren beloved, your election of God.”

Knowing Who You Are.

2 Peter 1:3 - 10 “ccording as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: 4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. 5 And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; 6 And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; 7 And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. 8 For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins. 10 Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:”

To see who you are.

Colossians 3:10 – 17 ”And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him: 11 Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all. 12 Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; 13 Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. 14 And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness. 15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. 17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.”

We can put on our election of God. We do this in our minds. In our thinking, this is how you recognize your dignity.

Romans 8:4- 7 “That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. 5 For they that are after the flesh do mind [thinking] the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit [they think] the things of the Spirit. 6 For to be carnally minded [thinking] is death; but to be spiritually minded [thinking] is life and peace. 7 Because the carnal mind [thinking] is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.”

It says the same thing, but in a different way. So that you can understand why people who think in the flesh, or are carnal, think by their five senses, or as it says, " Natural man cannot understand the things of the spirit.

1 Corinthians 2:14 “But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.”

Romans 8:8 – 17 “So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. 9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. 10 And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. 11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you. 12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh. 13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. 14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. 15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. 16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: 17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.”

Staying in the subject of the spirit, we'll jump down to verses 26 and 27.

Romans 8:26 & 27 “Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities [weakness]: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. 27 And he [the spirit] that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he [the spirit] maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.”

The spirit works with us in two ways: 1.) The spirit itself maketh intercession for us. It helps and guides us. We'll see later that Jesus Christ also makes intercession for us. 2.) The spirit maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.” When we speak in tongues the spirit makes intercession for us and for saints according to the will of God.

1 Corinthians 14:14 & 15 “For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful. 15 What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.”

See what it says in Ephesians 3:19 and remember what we read earlier in Colossians 3:16.

Ephesians 5:19 “Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs [singing in the spirit], singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;”

Colossians 3:16 “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs [singing in the spirit], singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.”

Singing with Grace in your hearts to the Lord, Spiritual songs by means of the spirit. Why singing in the spirit? In God's Word, in the chapters in Corinthians that teach how to operate the spirit, it says, "I would that you would speak in tongues more."Singing is another way to speak in tongues, and it's a way to sing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

Romans 8:28 – 39 “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. 29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. 30 Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified. 31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? 32 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things? 33 Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth. 34 Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us. 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36 As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. 37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. 38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, 39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

When you see the Dignity that you have, all that you are in Christ Jesus, it's easy. Just sing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. God bless you.

May God Bless you Abundantly

Steve
