We often forgive under duress or because we know that holding a grudge isn’t suitable for the long term and may negatively impact our mental and physical health.

Forgiveness is a complex psychological process made up of many different factors, which can sometimes work together to create a positive outcome.

The same can be said when it comes to holding a grudge. Rationally, it may seem like you’re actively punishing the other person by not forgiving them.

But, holding on to your anger and resentment towards someone who wronged you may have negative consequences on your overall happiness.
