On this special 350th episode of The Construction Record Podcast™, ConstructConnect chief economist Alex Carrick reflects on his career, the construction industry and the broader economy as he prepares for retirement at the end of June.

Alex spoke about the many changes in the economy over the previous decades from the gradual greening of every aspect of construction and the economy to the rise of technology and entertainment as a driver for large-scale building.

He also spoke of unpredictable events such as the dot.com crash of the late 90s, the financial crisis of 2008 and the emergence of COVID-19, a “white swan” event unlike anything the globe had seen economically in more than a century.
