Ep. 121 Best 4th of July Ever; Miles Connor in Nashville Welcome to this mid-summer episode of the Modern Moron.  I’m so excited to share the conversation I had with a young musician named Miles Connor.  He’s currently a student at Belmont University in Nashville Tennessee and was born and raised in the Dallas Texas area.  H’s e’s a bit of an old soul in that he was brought up with a lot of classic rock artists from the 60’s and 70’s.  I believe his first instrument was the guitar but his father was and is an accomplished musician and toured professionally back...

Hi… I have not been taking our relationship very seriously have I.  I’m sorry… I haven’t called, haven’t written, you think I haven’t even been thinking about you probably.  Well that’s not true.  If fact this is the 4th attempt at episode number 120.  I can’t tell why I haven’t been producing, creating, whatever this is and at the same time I have a few really important-ish reasons why I haven’t but we’ll talk about that later… maybe. My guest is my good friend Larry Dorf.  I would consider him a “super friend” isn’t that in like the...

Happy Holidays from The Modern Moron recorded this day, the 25th of November, 2022.  It’s Black Friday and there’s no place I would rather NOT be than a mall, A Walmart, a Best Buy or an Amazon.  Also, I literally got back from the grocery  store and I thought I was going to have to take out a Home Equity Loan.  I just paid over $5 for a dozen eggs.  What the ever-loving- @##$%?  At what point is it going to  be …. That’ll b e a dollar…. Another dollar…. Okay, two for one.  Thanks Grandpa Joe… for all the inflation.  It’s your...

Welcome to another episode of The Modern Moron… my guest is producer, writer, actor Larry Dorf, yes, that Larry Dorf.  We have a very light early fall chat about a few subjects, namely:  We talk a little about some of the Modern Moron’s more successful shows, one being on Phil Hendrie and his mastery of deception with his characters improvising with each other and his work on various animation projects from King of the Hill to Rick and Morty.   I refer to a story Larry told about an audition he had where he was being asked to play NBA legend Larry Bird’s father, a...

Welcome to another episode of the Modern Moron dated October 10th 2022, which means we’ll be talking about events from at least two months ago. I’m going to try something new in that I’m not spending so much time on this episode.  My guest is the Senator which is like Conan O’brien saying his guest is Andy Richter, but he brings up a couple of things with no real background or insight or explanation.  He just saw a show for 30 seconds which is more than enough to have an opinion about, whereas I take the due diligence of watching for at least 5 minutes.  We recorded on...

A lot more God talk in this one people, which you may or may not be into.  A lot of Philosophical and theological perspectives on God, with a capital G.  We continue our conversation with a very interesting Seminarian who has been studying not only theology but philosophy as well so he use big words, make brain thing hurtey.  This recording dates back to August of 2022 and I’m just now getting to it… my friend the Seminarian was in a summer program of Chaplaincy at the hospital where I do some volunteer work, we’ve had some interesting conversations and I finally connected...

Okay, the Moron doesn’t seem so moronic in this episode… well, I do, but we really have some divine inspirations in this episode.  My guest is a real live Seminarian in the Catholic Church.  Yes, THE Catholic church, not one of the knock offs.  He’s been pursuing his coronation… that’s not right… ordination!  That’s what I was looking for…  This conversation is all over the place, and I have to take responsibility for that.  If I get him back I really need to try and keep my questions more focused.  And because we are so all over the place,...

Thank you for tuning in to another episode of the Modern Moron… I did say I have an episode coming with a seminarian in the Catholic church, and I do.  This episode is the last half of my previous conversation with the Senator when I dropped out of it because I felt the need to address some science issues that we seem to be ignoring right now that place the economy as more important that the planet we live on and the resources that are becoming more rapidly scarce, namely water and oxygen.   This conversation contains the beautiful faux paux from the Senator when he cannot...

Half cocked, half informed, full moron. Seriously, the things we talk about and the half-cocked opinions we spout are really so misinformed that I would like to ask you a favor.  My favor is that you half listen but don’t really pay attention.  Is that possible?  Listen for one of us to mispronounce something or to say something completely off base but I don’t want you to really pay attention.  If you could… picture us both sitting on a front porch in a couple of rocking chairs.  That’s the best setting for this conversation.  Can you do that?  ...

More Episodes

Welcome to a part two of the Modern Moron… this one is nice and concise.  Much better than having one long one right?

So… when we last left our favorite moron, our hero, that being the senator.he was on a long winded jag about his trip to New York, his Sunday walk through Harlem and a tour of Teddy Roosevelt’s childhood home and that he interrupts the docent giving the tour to correct them about a photograph known as the boy in the window where two little boys are watching President Lincoln’s funeral procession.  The two boys are a very young Teddy Roosevelt and his brother.

He yammers on  about Teddy Roosevelt being a sickly child and then I try to wrap things up quickly because he’s in catch-up mode with work from being on vacation two weeks ago.  I tell him we can catch up on my vacation another time including my fancy game night with celebrities and he blows his stack. To be honest, I enjoyed it.

How is it you may ask, and rightly so, do the Senator and I stay friends in any way?  I pretty much give him a lot of verbal abuse and he responds by being for the most part unreliable at least as it pertains to this podcast.  I think one of the main reasons is that he doesn’t really care what I think about him. At least that’s what he would say. Some would say he cares very much about what other people think about him.

The Modern Moron has not addressed the current situation with the Corona Virus and all this Moron can do is observe it and it’s similarities to any other piece of viral information:

  • First, there’s the actual virus itself and it’s actual spread.
  • Second, there are THREE other viruses.  There is the viral information, the viral MIS-information and viral DIS-information.
    • The difference between MIS-information and DIS-information to me (a moron) is INTENT.  MIS-information and the MIS-informed, simply got the information wrong and spread it around.  It could be as simple as exaggeration. The exaggeration gets exaggerated and so on and so on and the next thing you know you have an imaginary viral pandemic that got that way due to overzealous story tellers.
    • DIS-information is the intentional spread of incorrect information, usually with an ulterior motive in mind.  For example, some people think our president is saying that the Corona Virus is not as bad as the media is making it seem, that he is not at all concerned.  That’s an over-simplification but You could view this as:
      • a) this is TRUE and CORRECT - the liberal media is trying to make him look bad like they always do and they’ll do anything to destroy him.  OR...
      • b) Trump is INCORRECT and he himself is spreading false information, which would be DIS-information about the severity of the virus.  He is trying to protect his presidency, was and is denying information about the virus to keep the economy and the stock markets from tanking even further.  He is not relying on medical health experts because they are not telling him what he wants to hear.
    • So there’s Mis-Information, DIS-information and which all falls under the umbrella of Viral information itself.  Some say this is a phenomenon of the internet and especially social media.  I think it’s been around forever in the form of gossip. People gossip, they exaggerate especially to make themselves look better and their enemies or frenemies look worse.  Been going on forever. Also referred to as propaganda defined as: “the spreading of ideas, information, or rumor for the purpose of helping or injuring an institution, a cause, or a person.”

So viral information has been around forever in communities, it’s just that the community has gotten much bigger; global in fact.

Back to the Corona Virus…

We have a  clip from our Dear Leader regarding his closing of borders…

It seems like information about the virus can be just as unpredictable as the virus itself, unless of course your a democrat in which case the virus is out of hand.  Or if you’re a republican then the severity of the virus is a hoax purported by the left wing media. See? Clear as mud.

My point is, as with all things, don’t trust one source for your news, political or otherwise.  Go to experts in the field where you are concerned and find those who you trust.

That’s it for this modern moron… we’ll see you next time.  Have great day evening or week and don’t forget to wash your hands and hydrate.  Can’t do enough of either one of those.
