#169 Dr. Donna Friess: The Surprising Value of Nostalgia show art #169 Dr. Donna Friess: The Surprising Value of Nostalgia

The Next Chapter with Charlie

Show Notes  Today’s show takes us on a journey down that “road less traveled.” Today we will learn about the value of life from the insights of author and professor, Dr. Donna Friess. Donna will talk to us about the value of nostalgia, overcoming childhood tragedy, and her fervent belief, that in spite of anything, happiness is a choice. My colleague Barbara Kimler, a publicist and consultant, recommended that I read Donna’s latest book “Growing Up Venice” and then perhaps interview her on the show. After reading her book I quickly concluded that I must chat with Donna Friess...

#168 Terry Hershey: Detachment and Emotional Sanity show art #168 Terry Hershey: Detachment and Emotional Sanity

The Next Chapter with Charlie

Show Notes  Today is a fun show because we have back our good friend, Terry Hershey. As many listeners know, Terry is the author of 17 books, acclaimed public speaker, teacher, and, what I like to call, minister of grace and human dignity. Today Terry and I will attempt to tackle a most sensitive question: That is, how can detachment provide emotional sanity in an otherwise insane world? At first glimpse it would seem that to detach from your emotions might lead to a sort of callous and calculated mind, devoid of any compassion or empathy. And in truth, if not managed well, detachment...

#167 Soheila Adelipour Love: An Antidote to Tragic Loss show art #167 Soheila Adelipour Love: An Antidote to Tragic Loss

The Next Chapter with Charlie

Show Notes   Our guest today brings with her a huge potpourri of emotional tragedy, cosmic learning, and even a surprising taste of laughter. And I say “a surprising taste of laughter” because after Soheila Adelipour tells her story, I guarantee you will be unsure exactly how to respond. The one thing you most certainly will walk away with is a renewed vision of the miraculous power of Love. In 1979, Soheila Adelipour and her family arrived in the United States after escaping the horrors of revolution and persecution in Iran. She and her 5 siblings stuck closely together, worked hard,...

The Next Chapter with Charlie

Show Notes I think today’s show will be fun. I plan to talk about “The Adventure Called Life” because that is how our special guest today lives his life… as an ongoing adventure. As a personal development coach, Nate Johnson genuinely “lives” life. Check it out. He is an American city guy turned white water rafting guide in New Zealand, a rancher the Australian outback, Manager at Inc. Magazine, and an SEO business executive. I think he was also in the carnival business… we’ll see. I am truly excited to have Nate Johnson on the show today. In spite of the more than 30-year...

The Next Chapter with Charlie

Show Notes  Today we are honored to once again have a recent guest who was on the show only a couple weeks ago. In our previous show Linda Olsen and I focused on the “value of creating a personal story.” But according to listeners, we neglected to explain the tactics or procedures of actually creating Your Own Story. Today Linda and I will dedicate the majority of our time together with an emphasis on discovering precisely what the listener can do to create a compelling story. Our guest and friend today, Linda Olsen, is a highly accomplished expert at helping others master their own...

The Next Chapter with Charlie

Show Notes  Last week I watched a video of singer/songwriter and philanthropist Jewel. Among several of her captivating ideas Jewel concluded the most important thing she can do in her mid-forties is to concentrate her primary goal as the nourishment of her soul. In today’s show I’d like to feature our good friend Terry Hershey, author 17 books, acclaimed public ZOOM speaker now, teacher, and minister of grace and human dignity. Terry is the perfect person to discuss today’s essential topic about how we can provide Nourishment to our Soul. Visit Terry at . For more with Charlie...

The Next Chapter with Charlie

Show Notes   Today, I will talk about a subject very dear to my heart—the meaning of life. As many know, I am a big fan of Dr. Jordan Peterson, a Canadian professor of Psychology at the University of Toronto. In the last 5 years, Peterson has become a very wildly renowned speaker and author. In a recently posted YouTube video on , Dr. Peterson offered fresh ideas that got me thinking meaning of life from a different sort of filter. Often we preach the idea of “meaning of life” as sort of philosophical mission statement, with oh too grandiose language. Today I am thinking more...

Show Notes As we consider making a change, my guest today, author, speaker, and entrepreneur Linda Olsen is going to walk us through a process of transforming our lives, from being stuck in the past to becoming vibrant today and in the future. And boy, does Linda have personal experience to support her story. But we’ll get into Linda’s story very shortly. Speaking of Story… Linda Olsen is a highly accomplished expert at helping others master their own story and then teaching them how to tell that story to other people. The primary focus of her business is all about storytelling. You know...

The Next Chapter with Charlie

Show Notes  My guest today, Caitlin Cogan Doemner, is one of my very favorite people. Although, to me, she’s just a puppy, I believe she possesses the inklings of a sage. Caitlyn is brilliant, thought provoking, and a boatload of fun. What else could you ask of a great woman? Although Caitlin was just on the show about four months ago, recently she posted thoughts on FB that utterly captured my attention. She wrote about “never feeling good enough,” although her successes in business and life are indeed enviable. Check this out, in only a decade after earning her Bachelors Degree...

Show Notes

Today I really look forward to the show, not so much because of the fascinating content but more because of our ultra fascinating guest… my dear, dear brilliant friend, Jennifer Bork.

Now, Jenn comes to us with no breathtaking resume, has authored no books, has no blog, podcast or business that places her atop the so-called social scale of that which most Americans secretly strive for.

Instead, Jenn Bork is a wife of Jon Bork, mother of two amazing children August and Tessa, a Facebook Make up guru, and a gym and boxing fanatic … but mostly Jennifer is a woman with as much practical wisdom as anyone I know.

Jennifer and I worked very closely together in the late 90’s and early 2000’s. Officially she was Executive Director of my company, but truly she did her best job as my creative muse. Apart from my wife, no one “gets me” like Jennifer. She understands both my personal strengths as well as my core pathologies that drive half of what I do and I think.

So today, Jenn and I will have a somewhat rambling conversation, catching up, after nearly a decade of very brief contact, as we brainstorm the meaning of life for the average individual and l most likely will slip into discussion about the impacts and learnings from months of quarantine.

So, Jenn Bork, welcome to The Next Chapter with Me.
