The Next Chapter with Charlie

Show Notes  Today my friend Terry Hershey and I talk about his book, Soul Gardening, which after having written sixteen books, this one is his favorite. I have a feeling it is his favorite because it just might be a faithful autobiography of a man in search… of himself of what it means to embrace life on planet earth. The closing words of his book tells it all… “People who love this world, those who pay attention, are all gardeners. Because gardening is not just about digging or planting. Gardening is about cherishing.” Delightful. Let’s bring on Terry to tell us more.

The Next Chapter with Charlie

Show Notes  Today Terry Hershey and I explore one possible reason that America is a radically divided country. And each side is firmly convinced that they are right, as each will cite “supposed factual information” in support of their beliefs. But… information itself is not the problem. It’s about the source of our information. One of the big reasons for our strong battle lines just may be that our information is too biased. We tend to rely only on information that supports the stance we have already agreed upon. Therefore we end up talking to ourselves. Is a middle ground even...

Today I’m feeling a need to talk about a subject that haunts just about all of us: Fear and Self-Doubt. Successful real estate mogul Sanford Coggins once told us on this podcast that, in his experience, “self-doubt” is the primary roadblock to achieving your dreams in life. Fear is mostly certainly holds its own as the other roadblock.

I think we learn far too early that failure is tragic, embarrassing, and proof that you are “Less Than.” Which is simply untrue. Neil Gaimen in his famous college graduation speech encourage the graduating seniors to “make mistakes, make lots of mistakes, make HUGE mistakes.”

That’s because mistakes are a marvelous tool that can lead you to eventual success. First of all, if you make a mistake, it means YOU TRIED! You were “in the game.” That alone is worthy. And, in addition, there are all the things you learn along the way.

But often, instead of learning helpful tools we learn to be afraid and doubt our ability. Therein lies the tragedy.
