WoodSolutions Timber Talks

In construction, there is a plethora of disruptive technologies that can be used to change the way we design, model and build. New disruptive technologies means new opportunities, and perhaps none mores than the productisation of construction. Today we’re lucky to be speaking with Amy Marks VP Industrialised Construction Strategy, or better known as the Queen of Prefab about: The shift to productisation Why data for manufacturing assembly is the new DfMA, And all things regarding the transformation of construction If you want to learn more about designing or building with timber, I...

WoodSolutions Timber Talks

If you’ve never visited a sawmill before, you’ll be surprised about how much happens behind the scenes in turning a log into a product. The timber supply chain has continually found new ways to improve the utilisation fo feedstock and forest value by creating new products. In this episode we’re speaking with Dave Gover, the GM of R&D at AKD about: The story of what happens behind the scenes in turning a log into a product What are the three goals of the timber supply chain How are the quality of products maintained.   If you want to learn more about designing or building with...

The 4Ds of Durability show art The 4Ds of Durability

WoodSolutions Timber Talks

Timber buildings can last for thousands of years, if designed properly. Water is the enemy of all materials and must be accounted for. The risks associated with mould, fungi and decay must be minimised if we’re looking to maximise the service life of a designed building. And today we’ve got one of the world’s leading experts in this field, Professor Jeffrey Morrell here to speak to us about: The differences between mould and decay What are the conditions for insect and termite attack The application of the 4Ds of durability   If you want to learn more about durability, I recommend...

More Episodes

Murray Grove is the first tall urban housing project to be constructed entirely from pre-fabricated solid timber, from the load bearing walls and floor slabs to the stair and lift cores. The project came in cost effective and sequestered carbon rather than emitting it, opening a new door to sustainable construction. Andrew Waugh, the Foudner of Waugh Thistleton Architects was the lead pioneer in unlocking this new door to the entirely new industry that is mass timber construction today. We spoke with Andrew Waugh on Season 1 of the podcast, and it is a privilege to circle back and speak to him again. In this episode we discuss:

  • What has happened since the Stadthaus (also known as Murray Grove) and today
  • Learn about a new evolution in architectural design, with a recent project 6 Orsman Road
  • And where the puck is moving with digital design, prefabrication and assembly.
