A Minnesota Trans-Atheist
This episode I sit down via Skype with radio host, author, speaker, organizer, and activist Stephanie Zvan. Stephanie has been a major impact on my life through her friendship, her writing, and her ability to bring people together in an effort to improve the world. I'm grateful to have the chance to chat with her one on one, across a variety of topics from Minnesota Atheists to the conferences she has organized and some behind the scenes radio stuff. I hope you enjoy this conversation.

info_outline Ep 46 Slurm Flirty WormA Minnesota Trans-Atheist
This episode features an interview with a really fun punk band from the Pacific Northwest, Slurm Flirty Worm. Slurm's drummer and back up vocalist (Abbi) is trans, and a listener local to Slurm helped connect Abbi and I. The whole band, Abbi, Michael, & Zakk are awesome, and I had a lot of fun chatting with them about how they got their name, what kind of music they play, and of course which hot pockets are the best hot pockets.

Quick Episode Summary
- Zinnia Introduction 2:22
- Sam Harris vs. Ben Affleck guest starring Islamophobia at 24:19
- Paulina Angel "California Baby" & Closing remarks at 32:45
The episode begins with some housekeeping. This podcast is moving to join the family over at TheQueerLife.org
As a listener of this show, you shouldn't have to do anything to continue to receive the world changing, mind blowing content I provide, all of the technical issues should have already been handled on my end.
The Queer Life is an independent broadcast for LGBT news and modern perspectives, is broadcast live on Fridays 6 - 8pm PST on KBBF 89.1 San Francisco and California's north bay. Kaiya is awesome, and is definitely a voice for the trans community I am proud to be associated with.
After the housekeeping, I introduce Zinnia Jones. Zinnia has been making atheist videos for years, in fact it was her and Rebecca Watson (of skepchick.org) that helped me overcome my fear of hell, the last stumbling block on my road to accepting my own lack of god belief. Zinnia has also been documenting her bodily transition, and sharing it with the world. She has never been one to shy away from a camera, is never afraid to eloquently posit her opinion, and (very important for this episode) represents a positive expression of a sex positive culture.
Zinnia goes over many topics such as:
- Sex after transition - from the position of someone who has transitioned
- Why so many cis-het men fetishize people who are transgender
- Where you can find transgender porn online - that was not made for cis-het men
- Discussion of intercourse & the uniqueness of bodies
- Sex toy recommendations
- Other projects Zinnia is working on
- Transgender parenting
Zinnia also provided me with a plethora of links to share with you:
After Zinnia I move over to Sam Harris, which makes sense, because Sam made me so f'ing mad.
A couple of weeks ago Sam Harris was on Real Time with Bill Maher, and the two of them got into a heated debate with Ben Affleck, who called them out on the "gross and racist" opinions of Islam. You can watch the link for yourself here: http://vimeo.com/108354205 I get a little preachy and paternalistic, and for that I apologize. If you disagree with me, feel free to let me know. You have my email, my phone, but I'm also on twitter @transatheistpod and you can comment on episodes on the show page www.trans-atheist.net or Facebook at www.facebook.com/transatheistpod
Finally the show ends with music from Paulina Angel, and the single off her latest album Saturday Mornings Around the Pool, "California Baby" Paulina was recently interviewed over on The Queer Life, episode 6 on September 5, 2014. You can hear the whole episode here: http://www.thequeerlife.org/2014/09/03/episode-006-paulina-angel/
