A Minnesota Trans-Atheist
This episode I sit down via Skype with radio host, author, speaker, organizer, and activist Stephanie Zvan. Stephanie has been a major impact on my life through her friendship, her writing, and her ability to bring people together in an effort to improve the world. I'm grateful to have the chance to chat with her one on one, across a variety of topics from Minnesota Atheists to the conferences she has organized and some behind the scenes radio stuff. I hope you enjoy this conversation.

info_outline Ep 46 Slurm Flirty WormA Minnesota Trans-Atheist
This episode features an interview with a really fun punk band from the Pacific Northwest, Slurm Flirty Worm. Slurm's drummer and back up vocalist (Abbi) is trans, and a listener local to Slurm helped connect Abbi and I. The whole band, Abbi, Michael, & Zakk are awesome, and I had a lot of fun chatting with them about how they got their name, what kind of music they play, and of course which hot pockets are the best hot pockets.

Quick Episode Summary
- 00:35 Ooops from last episode
- 01:26 Patreon thank you(s)
- 01:42 Poverty rant
- 06:46 Claire Renee Kohner interview
- 01:53:56 Music by Steffo
I usually edit my interviews a bit, cut out some tangents, remove the ums the dead air, the oops did I just say that parts….however this interview was different. Claire came over to my apartment and we just hit it off right away, it was so much fun.
You’ll hear us talking about that original Caitlin Jenner interview, and for perspective we were having this conversation right after the interview aired and Caitlin was still using her birth name and male pronouns…lest you think Claire is misgendering a fellow transwoman.
During the conversation Claire does discuss some rough patches in her life during transition, and we also discuss our separate experiences interviewing one Cathy Brennan, so I just want to give any listeners the necessary trigger warnings for TERFs, suicide, misgendering, and reparative therapy. If you are struggling, worried about your personal safety, or just need to talk to someone who understands, you can always call the US number at 1-877-565-8860 or in Canada you can call 1-877-330-6366 those numbers and the website are available in the show notes as well.
As I said, this was a fantastic conversation, and I am so happy to have the opportunity to share it with you.

Music
Steffeny "Steffo" Messinger refers to her pseudonym/moniker "My Parents Favorite Music" for the video game and pop culture influenced music she writes, produces, and records independently. Created in 2000 and through many different variations over the years, MPFM has released 5 albums independently. With topics ranging from silly and simple like coffee and robots, to topics as dark and complex as lost loved ones and the duality of self, all backed by familiar pixelated soundtracks.
Releasing albums as pieces of the map to a mysterious island, she tours the country bringing clever wordplay and a colorful presence to her musical adventure, and every listener is welcome to be a part of the MPFM story.
