Uncle Jonesy's Cameras

After an early summer break, Wayne and Kevin have film to develop, prints to make, and project to pursue. Kevin's project has been making contact print triptychs using one of the cheapest new cameras availbable today, the "Plastic Filmtastic" . This $20 camera often gets compared with the legandary Holga, but it is not the same camera. While the Debonair also has a plastic lens, Kevin believes that it makes better photographs than the Holga while still producing vintage vignetting effects. However, what really separates the Debonair from the Holga is that the Debonair makes 6x4.5cm rectangle...

Uncle Jonesy's Cameras

The Shutter Brothers are waxing nostalgic about the old days of local camera and photography shops - and that's easy for them to do, because Kevin spent many happy hours hanging out in them, and Wayne actually work in and owned one. Wel it finally happened. Kevin now owns a Leica M2 after an unexpected local ad pops up. Not an impluse buy, mind you, as his search for the right M2 and the right time to buy it has been years in the making. but to say that Kevin is excited is quite the understatement. Meanwhile, Wayne has been playing with a compact German designed camera of his own, the Rollei 35. And compact doesn't really describe just how small this full frame 35mm rangefinder camera is. Ergonomic it is not, but could Wayne like it anyway? After some show and tell, the Shutter Brothers dive into some listener feedback,...

The Shutter Brothers are back with the first show of 2025, and its time to read some of the listener feedback that's in the UJC mailbag. Our listeners have lots of great questions and tips for us on topics like the best ways to meter with and without a light meter and the importance of shooting digital images in RAW format. And two of our listeners weigh in on why Kevin (who, as you no doubt know, has red green color blindness) can see colors more accurately when they appear on a screen as opposed to seeing them in person. We love the feedback we get from our  listeners, and we will have...

If you have a camera with an automatic exposure mode (such as aperture or shutter priority), you may have wondered about that dial on your camera with +1 +2 and -1 -2? That dial is the way you access your camera's exposure compensation, and knowing how to use it will make you a better photographer. Shutter Brothers Wayne and Kevin do a deep dive into how exposure comensation works and when you should use it.

Meanwhile, Kevin shares his thoughts about his opportunity to use his 'dream' camera. Was it a positive experience? Will Kevin be shelling out some big bucks? Or, is there a greater lesson to be learned here? Listen to find out.

Next, Wayne and Kevin get philisophical again and share some of the deep 'dark' thoughts they have been having lately with "Thoughts from the Dark(room)." If you've been having some deep thoughts about your photography lately, you can share them with us by email (unclejonesyscameras@gmail.com), Instagram (@UJCPodcast) or Facebook (also @UJCPodcast).
