ONE8FIFTY PARTNERS IN TRANSPLANT PODCAST
Welcome to the 1st edition of the ONE8FIFTY Partners in Transplant podcast. ONE8FIFTY is a New York State 501(c)3 non-profit corporation. Our mission is to increase awareness of the need for organ donors, to promote the concept of living donation, and to assist families navigate and expedite the transplant process. “ONE8FIFTY means ONE donor can provide up to 8 people with lifesaving organs and impact at least FIFTY others through tissue donation.” New York State currently ranks last in the nation in the percentage of population registered as organ donors. This situation compromises the ability of those waiting for transplant to receive the lifesaving organs they need to live healthy lives. 22 people die each day in the United States waiting for organs that are currently not available. Today there are nearly 117,000 people across the United States in need of an organ transplant. In New York State there are approximately 8,300 people waiting. Unfortunately, 500 of those will not receive the organ they need because they are currently not available and an equal number will become too ill to be considered a viable candidate for transplant. It does not have to be this way. You can save people facing needless death. It is our sincere hope that this series will educate and inspire people to register as organ donors and help save the lives of our friends and neighbors in need.
