Freelancers: Next Gen with Matt Dowling
In 2008, I spent my last £300 on a lawyer in an effort to recover £11,000 that was owed to me from an unpaid invoice. My final attempt failed. A freelance photographer at the time, I was broke, frustrated and out of time. The story made the national press and freelancers reached out with similar tales. Realising the need for support and determined to put a stop to the exploitation of creative freelancers, the seeds of Freelancer Club were sown. Today, Freelancer Club is one of the leading creative communities online with tens of thousands of members supporting one another. Our campaign to end exploitative unpaid work, #NoFreeWork, found its way into the corridors of power and we dedicate our time trying to improve lives of solopreneurs. That's what this podcast is about. I love meeting people who break the rules, ignore convention and forge their own path. The creators, the ideas people, and the rebels who look at life differently. In every episode, I chat with an outlier as well as those thriving to support them. From thought leaders and practitioners to the occasional left-field guest, they offer up genuine insights and expertise to give us a deeper understanding of the freelance landscape.
