What Was The Tuesday Night Massacre?
05/04/2023
What Was The Tuesday Night Massacre?
Many people in Celina, Texas have heard of the famous "Tuesday Night Massacre" by now. In this episode, Host Ron Lyons deep dives into the Celina, Texas city council meeting from June 14, 2022 where four city council members (Wendie Wigginton, Jay Pierce, Philip Ferguson and Tony Griggs) devised a plan to terminate (forcibly vacate) every citizen member's position on every single board and commission (except the Board of Adjustments) on the exact night that two of those four council members (Ferguson and Griggs) had just sworn in. A plan in which, unfortunately, they were successful in carrying out. In order for such a plan to be undertaken on the first night of Ferguson and Griggs service on the council, there had to be discussions and plans made between each of them and Wigginton and Pierce. The term collusion certainly fits this situation and "if" Celina, Texas residents knew this took place, it could certainly create doubt and distrust between between the citizens and council. This move has been seen by most as dangerous, similar to twirling a loaded gun on your finger -perhaps you make it through just fine and look like a real showman, or perhaps you destroy life as we know it in Celina, Texas. Supporters of the four instigators of the Tuesday Night Massacre will quickly point to the fact that no major harm was done. In other words, in spite of the risks willfully taken by these four council members, we got lucky. But, it isn't the outcome that is the problem. Instead, it's their willingness to gamble with the future and the vision of what is arguably one of the most amazing cities in Texas. As bad as the Russian Roulette game was that was forced upon the City of Celina by these four council members, there is sadly, more. One specific instance was when Wigginton and Ferguson decided (knowing they held the majority on city council and therefore could pass anything they desired) to put City Manager Jason Laumer on the council agenda to force his termination. (As a side note, approximately three months prior to Wigginton and Ferguson's effort to put Laumer on the agenda for termination, the Celina City Council had voted to not only renew, but to extend Jason Laumer's employment contract with Celina, a move that would indicate their satisfaction with his performance as City Manager.) Ferguson ultimately responded to the outpouring of support for Laumer and ended up changing his intention to help terminate Laumer. Without Ferguson's vote, the council would;d have been split and the Mayor would have to break the tie, presumably in favor of keeping Laumer in his position as City Manager, therefore Wigginton pulled Laumer from the agenda and to this day, Jason Laumer still serves as Celina City Manager. And, it's a great thing that this effort failed because a third party study of the job satisfaction of City of Celina employees (over 250 of them) and culture of the workplace within the City of Celina was undertaken. The results would either reflect that Council Member Wigginton was correct in her desire to terminate City Manager Laumer, or it would show that she was incorrect and that Laumer was in fact, doing a good job. The results? Stellar! As it turns out, the results of the report show that City Manager Jason Laumer has created a Celina workforce that is very happy in their jobs and that they love the culture working for the City of Celina. These are uncomfortable issues to address, and most people do not have the two hours and twenty minutes to watch the council meeting from June 14th, 2022 and were not able to attend. Therefore, Host Ron Lyons takes us on a tour of the critically dangerous steps taken by the new majority of the Celina City Council on the night now known as The Tuesday Night Massacre.

Sean Terry: The Story You Weren't Supposed To Hear

Sean Terry: The Story You Weren't Supposed To Hear
Celina, Texas Podcast: It's hard to imagine that a city poised to be the most extraordinary success story in recent Texas history is tearing itself apart at the seams. If one were to look at some of the popular Facebook Group Pages, one would likely believe that Celinans hate each other. But why? How could such a fantastic city have so much hate and vitriol? Well, this minor manufactured disease called "politics" tends to do that to communities, and it's sadly apparent that Celina isn't immune to this nasty disease either; especially when you have a Mayoral choice to make. But what makes this political season so strange is that the incumbent Mayor, Sean Terry, has held the position of Mayor for a decade -through all of the challenges on the path to becoming the "fastest growing city in Texas" and something no Mayor had faced before: COVID. So why is there any controversy at all over Sean Terry? Most would be grateful for the record-setting successes and the leadership demonstrated to overcome the pandemic as a community. But, oddly, that isn't the case. There is more polarization and "self-sorting" in Celina, Texas, than ever. And what is this division based on? Plainly put, growth. You see, there are two distinct factions in Celina today, one that prefers Celina grow and develop slower (if at all) and the other, a group that has come to terms with the fact that the growth is coming and who now seek to manage that growth. So how does this division in Celina, Texas, make for a Mayor that would be a first choice in most cities but seemingly hated by some in Celina? Because he is the "face" of development. Sean Terry is more than just the Mayor of Celina. He is also an employee of Centurian American, one of the largest developers in North Texas. Does it make sense now? The "build a wall around it and keep people out" crowd generally does not like Mayor Sean Terry, and the folks who see and love Celina's growth potential typically do like him. So how do you take down a popular Mayor, one with credentials that include leading a small farming community to the status of fastest growing city in Texas and leading that city through a pandemic? Easy. You turn them into a villain or a criminal. You know, you have to flip the script. But how? Well, that's not easy unless the FBI happens to show up at said Mayor's door to conduct a "raid." You know, helicopters flying overhead, smoke grenades going off, FBI Agents pounding on the door with Ninja masks on. It's a dark and sordid tale told many times to influence how people vote. But was it a "raid?" What really happened at Mayor Sean Terry's home when the FBI showed up? Even with an FBI "raid" and all the verbal theatrics one could heap on the story, you would still need more than that to take down a wildly popular Mayor (so popular that he didn't draw an opponent for many years.) That's where Mayor Sean Terry's employment comes into play. The story goes like this: since Sean Terry works for a developer, AND that developer has some projects in Celina, he MUST be on the take, right? Oh, and let's not forget to mention how often Mayor Sean Terry has to recuse himself as Centurion American moves to take over Celina in its evil scheme for world domination [cue the laugh of Dr. Evil in Austin Powers.] But wait, there's more. Gossiping minds want to know (or tell you) about how Sean Terry doesn't technically live in Celina -or at least his trailer isn't appropriately registered, so he MUST be in some sort of default, right? Here's the good news: Mayor Sean Terry chose to sit down with Host Ron Lyons (who was recently very much on the fence himself about Mayor Terry) and tell HIS story, the one free of hateful agenda and the one you are less likely to hear from the Mayor Sean Terry haters. Basically, "The Story You Weren't Supposed To Hear." But it's a story that you DESERVE to hear, and you can have that opportunity in this episode of Celina Radio. Mayor Sean Terry discusses everything from the FBI situation to his employment at Centurion American, the conflict of interest, his living situation and more. It may not be our typical fun episode, but it's an important one, -important for all of us. We hope you enjoy this episode of Celina Radio. Be sure to stay until the very end, as Host Ron Lyons provides a nice little break from the political nonsense of the day for some much needed unity and healing!

Jason Laumer, The Life Connected Man In The Arena
11/17/2022
Jason Laumer, The Life Connected Man In The Arena
Celina Texas Podcast: Jason Laumer, the Celina, Texas City Manager, has a quote on his office wall from a Teddy Roosevelt speech called "The Man In The Arena." The selection addresses the differences between those who "spend themselves for a worthy cause" versus "those cold and timid souls that know neither victory nor defeat." Jason Laumer has entered the arena and is committed to improving life in Celina, Texas. In this episode, Host Ron Lyons sat down with Jason Laumer and learned all about the man who has been very instrumental in leading Celina, Texas, on the journey to a better place than it was five years ago, fully implementing the concept of "Life Connected." But the discussion wasn't only about his mission to serve Celina. In typical Celina Radio Podcast fashion, Ron worked to discover the man behind the title. For example, did you know that Jason Laumer is a Star Wars geek? Or that he can do accurate math calculations in his head? You will enjoy hearing all about this man with a servant's heart, helping lead the way to a much better Celina, Texas, of the future. And be sure to listen to the end of this episode. By special request, Ron has included music from his favorites list. But, probably more significant than that, Ron will announce an exciting change coming to the Celina Radio Podcast.

Chase Colston And His Celina Troubadour Festival 2022

Chase Colston And His Celina Troubadour Festival 2022
Celina, Texas Troubadour Festival 2022 is a unique combination of truckloads of barbeque from across Texas, and some excellent country music rolled into one massive event. But who is behind this epic festival? Chase Colston is a would-be sports writer who lost his job and spent over a year applying to nearly two hundred replacement jobs, only to get zero responses. And, oddly, that was a good thing because Chase was forced to make his way back to the top on his own. After many denials of his concept, he finally broke through and has developed an epic event that attracts thousands of attendees now. In this episode, Chase Colston gives us an accurate idea of what it's like in the months leading up to The Troubadour Festival and even what it's like on the day of the event. To say it's lots of work is an understatement. But, as usual, Celina Radio is not the typical, dull, and dry podcast you often hear. In that sense, Ron asked Chase Colston some fascinating questions, like how much money it would take to get him to ride a bike with training wheels around the Celina square. His answer? You'll have to listen to find out. Oh, and the question of the day, "If you were hanging out with Willie Nelson and you both decide to go for donuts, what kind does Willie order?" Certainly don't miss Chase's answer to that question! You're going to love this episode with Chase Colston. Please share it and leave comments. Chase and Ron would love to know your thoughts about their crazy conversation!

Together they helped create then star in their own Netflix reality show called "Country Ever After." Another thing the Andersons share in common is their faith in God, their love for America, and the freedoms granted by both. So, it's not surprising that Coffey and Criscilla are behind the second annual Freedom Fest in Celina, Texas (an event honoring law enforcement, first responders, and the military.) Host Ron Lyons sat down with Coffey and Criscilla Anderson in this episode. He discovered how they met, what life is like in small-town Texas, and what keeps them together amid all the stresses of being a celebrity family.
