Stage Door Diva Series - Aaron Watson, Stage Manager
An interview Tamara conducted with professional stage manager Aaron Watson in 2018. Part of the TAMgents Stage Door Diva Series. (Our next episode will be interviews with Aaron from 2022 and 2023, discussing post-covid professional theater) *********************************************** Show notes from the 2018 episode: Aaron A. Watson is a Non-Union Stage Manager who is currently working out of New York City as a Stage Manager for theatre, dance, and more! Aaron can currently be seen working on the hit show Cleopatra at Chelsea Music Hall. Aaron's work has brought him across all four corners of the United States in various touring productions, but his heart always brings him back to his shows in New York, much of which has been new works and workshops. Aaron also enjoys photography, fitness, camping, hiking, shopping, and driving the world crazy with his unique hashtags, #littlegingerinthebigcity and #littlegingertouringthebigcountry, which some fail to see is an irony mimicking the Looney Toon's type cartoons where the "rotund" evil villain was always named "Slim", making it comical to call his 6'3" self "little". He hails from the great Pine Tree State of Maine where he both grew up and went to college. The pine scented air and vast lakes are some of Aaron's favorite things about Vacationland, and he enjoys visiting whenever he can. If you'd like to know more about Aaron, he shares all his hijinks around the country with the world on his social media! The Stage Door Diva began as a column in the Coastal Journal in Midcoast Maine. Over time, Tamara Lilly realized she wanted to tell more and more indepth stories, beyond the page. The focus is on Theater folks in Maine and beyond! Links mentioned in the interview: ******************************************* For more episodes of the TAMgents podcast, visit

Grace Kendall of Safe Voices, on Domestic Abuse in Maine
As part of the Liberation Series, Tamara speaks with Grace Kendall, Director of Development and Engagement at the Safe Voices Organization in Lewiston, Maine. From the Safe Voices website: Domestic Violence, also referred to as Domestic Abuse, is a pattern of coercive behavior in which one person attempts to control another through threats or actual use of physical violence, sexual assault, and verbal or psychological abuse. Many victims of abuse do not recognize that they are abused. Anyone can be a victim of abuse, no matter their race, age, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, education, or income level. Last year, Safe Voices assisted over 2,220 survivors. Safe Voices currently operates the only shelter and support services for victims of domestic abuse and violence, sex trafficking, and sexual exploitation in Androscoggin, Franklin, and Oxford counties. Marita Kennedy-Castro of Embody the Rhythm
Tamara chats with Marita Kennedy-Castro of Embody the Rhythm. Marita Kennedy-Castro (she/her) is an embodied movement artist, dance educator and intercultural bridge-builder. She is founder of Embody the Rhythm, and artistic director, choreographer and performer with . She resides in the un-ceded territory of the Wabanaki peoples, which we call Portland, Maine under colonization. Marita is passionate about contributing to cultural preservation, building intercultural communities and illuminating avenues to healing through movement as medicine. A note from Marita: It feels important to mention that for those of us in white bodies, many of our ancestors too had practices of communal dancing and music sharing as part of life rituals that connect us to each other, and to the earth. Many of these traditions have been largely lost or buried in the dominant culture. The focus on individualism, constructed race, class and gender hierarchies, and capitalism have had a lot to do with people of all backgrounds losing these communal practices. I believe all people have an innate connection to music and dancing, that it’s a vital part of being human. The traditions have been quietly forced out of our daily rituals and celebrations through valuing things like “productivity” and financial “success” over living life. We have much to learn from cultures who recognize the importance of continuing and preserving these traditions. This is another reason why intentional cultural preservation is so essential. Jamie Dorr & Pat LaMarche on Homelessness
Wanting to tackle the giant topic of homelessness, Tamara chats with Pat LaMarche, national homelessness advocate and activist, and Jamie Dorr, Executive Director of Midcoast Youth Center in Bath, Maine. Just the tips of the iceberg, the women share information on numbers, circumstances, challenges, system failures and what you can do to help. Pat LaMarche, award winning broadcaster and journalist, focuses her energies writing and speaking about poverty. Following her 2004 run for Vice President of the United States – a year of her life she dedicated to speaking out against homelessness and its victims – Pat became a shelter director caring directly for those experiencing housing and food insecurity. Having authored nine books dealing with poverty and human struggles, Pat relies on any and every method available to her to grab the attention of the mainstream public. Pat’s most recent project, The Homeless Remembrance Blanket will place 9000 square feet of blankets on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol, December 21st. Pat works closely with homelessness advocate extraordinaire Diane Nilan. Here are some of her links and resources. Jamie Dorr is the Executive Director and Founder of Midcoast Community Alliance, a grassroots community coalition that began in July 2016 after several youth suicide losses in the Bath area. Since that time, Jamie has been instrumental in creating innovative solutions to previously unmet needs in Sagadahoc County, Brunswick and Harpswell to ensure youth are supported and equipped to thrive. She developed Midcoast Youth Center, which yearly serves over 500 youth with a safe place to go afterschool and operates the adjoining Bath Skatepark, the largest indoor skatepark in Maine. Working with partners, she developed the Merrymeeting Support Collaborative for Youth Experiencing Homelessness, a partnership between Midcoast Youth Center and school districts RSU1 and MSAD75, which serves over 60 homeless children and teens each year. Her leadership was crucial to Sagadahoc County community receiving a Working Communities Challenge grant from the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston with the goal of reducing youth hopelessness and creating a diverse web of youth supports. Her work has earned 15 awards at the local, county, and state level, as well as 2019 Difference Maker of the Year from the New England Patriots.
