Psalms to Help You Sleep
Welcome to the Psalms to Help You Sleep podcast with Sarah Frazer and Jennifer Holmes. If you struggle to fall asleep at night or go through your day fighting anxiety and depression pull up a chair. Psalms is a book that gives us permission to feel but also to hear. In the Psalms we find recognition and clarity because each of the psalmists gives an honest voice to our deepest struggles. They also give us a chance to hear another voice: that of our caring and ever-present Father. This is the voice we need to hear in the middle of the night when despair keeps us awake. The voice of God can sing us back to sleep. Join us as we read through a psalm, share a short devotional, and end in prayer. Take a breath. Let’s begin.

Psalm 39
10/06/2025
Psalm 39
Night after night the darkness would creep inside my heart and I would lie awake crying - for no reason. I begged God for relief or even to give me a reason. Nothing changed and so I stopped praying for a time. Like the author of Psalm 39, I thought maybe if I just stay silent things would be fine. I never ever talked about my depression with friends or family (other than my husband). I thought if I just didn’t think about it or mention it, it wouldn't be real. But anxiety and depression can’t be ignored. You can’t push the feelings down forever. Eventually I began to pray again about my depression. Listen to this week's episode to discover how a view of eternity actually helps give us hope at night.
