Welcome to The Journey West County Podcast. We are a church just west of St. Louis, Missouri. Our heart is simple: We want you to enjoy God's grace, embody his love for one another, and engage your culture as an ambassador of Christ. The way we do that is also simple, and ultimately, this is our prayer for you: that you would love being with Jesus, that you would begin to do the things that Jesus did when he was here on earth, and that, as you go about your work and life, you would link arms with Jesus and partner with him to see his kingdom come in your life, in St. Louis, and in this world. > During the Advent season, we spent five weeks reflecting on the idea of beholding Jesus. Seeing Jesus in all his glory, splendor, and wonder. But as we expected, the Christmas season is done and now we must get back to our everyday lives. Working, parenting, and trying to be a good neighbor and friend. The questions that were circulating before the Christmas season or maybe in the midst of it, are still there: “How do I follow Jesus in suffering? How do I see my neighbor the same way that God sees me? How do I become a person of integrity? What do I do with anxiety? How can I be faithful to where God has me today? What’s my purpose?” How we answer these everyday questions, or choose not to answer them, has huge implications for the type of people we ultimately become. If we are honest, the way we answer these types of questions may be by numbing or distracting ourselves or by simply modifying our behavior without delay. (Looking at you new year’s resolutions!) But distracting ourselves from these types of questions or behavior modification always ends up in the same places: frustration, anxiety, failure fatigue, and disappointment. As we turn the page into the year 2025, our prayer for this is simple: “Everyday, Jesus." Over the next few months, we will study through the book of James as we dig into the “everyday-ness” of following Jesus and how learning to have his wisdom in all areas of our lives is essential to maturing as an apprentice of Jesus. Jesus did not come just for you to have life one day in the distant future but to step into his life now. That doesn’t mean abandoning your responsibilities, callings, passions, or purpose. It means that we invite Jesus into every aspect of our lives, knowing that his wisdom is for our everyday lives as we seek to be formed into apprentices of Jesus.

Over the next few months, we will study through the book of James as we dig into the “everyday-ness” of following Jesus and how learning to have his wisdom in all areas of our lives is essential to maturing as an apprentice of Jesus. Jesus did not come just for you to have life one day in the distant future but to step into his life now. That doesn’t mean abandoning your responsibilities, callings, passions, or purpose. It means that we invite Jesus into every aspect of our lives, knowing that his wisdom is for our everyday lives as we seek to be formed into apprentices of Jesus.

Everyday, Jesus - James 1:2-12 - Tim Holley
> During the Advent season, we spent five weeks reflecting on the idea of beholding Jesus. Seeing Jesus in all his glory, splendor, and wonder. But as we expected, the Christmas season is done and now we must get back to our everyday lives. Working, parenting, and trying to be a good neighbor and friend. The questions that were circulating before the Christmas season or maybe in the midst of it, are still there: “How do I follow Jesus in suffering? How do I see my neighbor the same way that God sees me? How do I become a person of integrity? What do I do with anxiety? How can I be faithful to where God has me today? What’s my purpose?” How we answer these everyday questions, or choose not to answer them, has huge implications for the type of people we ultimately become. If we are honest, the way we answer these types of questions may be by numbing or distracting ourselves or by simply modifying our behavior without delay. (Looking at you new year’s resolutions!) But distracting ourselves from these types of questions or behavior modification always ends up in the same places: frustration, anxiety, failure fatigue, and disappointment. As we turn the page into the year 2025, our prayer for this is simple: “Everyday, Jesus." City of God - Kingdom Church - Tim Holley
"The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel." Jesus, the long-awaited Messiah, came to earth to usher people into the kingdom of God. This kingdom was counter to Israel's expectations; it wasn't about building through political power and military might but instead about restoring a kingdom that was always intended in the garden. In this garden city, there was meant to be relationship and harmony with God and the entire created order. Through the saving work of Jesus, he inaugurates this city of God. But stepping back into God's city or kingdom requires an entire recalibration of our identity, purpose, relationships, and vision for our lives. This isn't a future recalibration but is for the here and now as we learn to be citizens of a new kind of city. Jesus' salvation brings a future hope of one day going to heaven and a present reality of bringing heaven down wherever his people are found. Over the next three months, we seek to understand that Jesus' saving work isn't merely a story, a theological framework, or a list of moral values but a way of life. As his apprentices, our responsibility is to follow him wherever he leads.
