Breaking the Cycle

Early literacy struggles can often shape a child’s confidence for years, but with supportive teaching, explicit guidance, and emotionally safe classrooms, those struggles don’t have to define them. My own journey from forgetting the letter Q to becoming a pre-elementary education major shows how powerful empathy and scaffolding can be. As educators, you have the ability to build strong literacy identities by meeting students where they are and helping them grow with patience and care.
