The Massive Quest to Break the Velodrome Hour Record | Jeff Seckendorf
Today's episode originally dropped in December of 2023 and we are releasing it again now for a very exciting reason. When Jeff Seckendorf and Sasha orignally spoke, he was training for an attempt at breaking the national velodrome hour record in the 70-74 age group. At the time, Jeff promised to come back after his attempt to share how it went, and he did! We will release our follow-up episode with Jeff tomorrow, but wanted to give you the chance to revisit the original episode before Jeff's triumphant return to the show tomorrow. Enjoy! Jeff Seckendorf doesn’t seem to have met a lot of sports where he didn’t excel. His experiences range from land (ice climbing) to sea (scuba diving) to air (aerobatic flying) and have culminated in his current passion, the velodrome, where he rides his fixed gear, brake-less bike really, really fast. Jeff currently holds the hour record at the San Diego Velodrome and is now training for an attempt at breaking the national hour record in the 70-74 age group in 2025. In this episode he explains the appeal of this brutal race, how he stays motivated day in and day out, and how to find the fun in the every day. If you’re interested in learning more about Jeff you can find him online at and his Institute of Purpose is at InstituteOfPurpose.org. Join our Sports Fam online! Sports on Screen | VARSITY BLUES
In this episode of Sports Will Save Us All, Sasha and Steve fire up the time machine and head back to 1999 to tackle the sweaty, emotionally confused, and gloriously over-the-top football flick Varsity Blues. With whipped cream bikinis, emotionally repressed quarterbacks, and a coach who should probably be in prison, Varsity Blues is the teen sports drama we didn't know we needed—until now. Sasha and Steve break down the film's iconic moments, cringe-worthy life lessons, and the kind of small-town football fever that makes grown men cry into their Bud Light. They dig into the real MVP of the movie—sex-ed teacher turned stripper Miss Davis—and examine what the film got right (team spirit! teen angst!) and what it got hilariously, awkwardly wrong. Expect sharp takes on toxic authority figures, generational drama, and the enduring power of a good pep rally. Is it a cinematic touchdown or just a fumble wrapped in nostalgia? Sports on Screen | BLUE CRUSH
Why does Blue Crush still have people talking? Is it the bikinis? The strange CGI? The half-baked romance? Or the furious locals? In this episode of Sports on Screen, Steve and Sasha dive deep into the 2002 cult classic. With wild fun facts, hot takes, and burning questions, this episode is one you won’t forget. Who was director John Stockwell hanging out with back in the day? Which surprising celebrity did he date? What happens when your head meets a reef? And how could this so-called “love story” have been way better? We answer all this and more in this hilariously offbeat episode of Sports Will Save Us All.
