The Athleticism of Art and the Artistry of Athletics | Jared Redick
This week, host Sasha Graham welcomes an extraordinary guest whose career embodies the perfect fusion of athleticism and artistry: Jared Redick. A former soloist with the San Francisco Ballet, Boston Ballet, Miami City Ballet, and the Suzanne Farrell Ballet, Jared danced professionally for two decades before moving into teaching and directing. Now a full professor and Assistant Dean of Dance at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, Jared brings unparalleled insight into the world of professional ballet—and what it truly demands, both physically and mentally. In this episode, Sasha and Jared dive deep into: The intense physical training behind ballet and how it compares to traditional sports The lasting impact of early specialization, disordered eating, and unrealistic aesthetic standards The evolving approach to dancer wellness, including cross-training and mental health support How dancers measure up against athletes in categories like endurance, flexibility, and strength The specific personality traits that help dancers thrive—and how they avoid burnout The emotional highs of performing and the challenges of transitioning out of a professional dance career Jared also shares a new initiative he's launching to help dancers navigate career transitions and personal development, ensuring they’re seen and supported as whole people—not just performers. And don’t miss Jared’s Performance-Changing Tip—a powerful insight that will resonate far beyond the world of ballet. You can find Jared on Instagram @Jared_Redick Join our Sports Fam online! Sports on Screen | VARSITY BLUES
In this episode of Sports Will Save Us All, Sasha and Steve fire up the time machine and head back to 1999 to tackle the sweaty, emotionally confused, and gloriously over-the-top football flick Varsity Blues. With whipped cream bikinis, emotionally repressed quarterbacks, and a coach who should probably be in prison, Varsity Blues is the teen sports drama we didn't know we needed—until now. Sasha and Steve break down the film's iconic moments, cringe-worthy life lessons, and the kind of small-town football fever that makes grown men cry into their Bud Light. They dig into the real MVP of the movie—sex-ed teacher turned stripper Miss Davis—and examine what the film got right (team spirit! teen angst!) and what it got hilariously, awkwardly wrong. Expect sharp takes on toxic authority figures, generational drama, and the enduring power of a good pep rally. Is it a cinematic touchdown or just a fumble wrapped in nostalgia? Tune in to find out, and bring your varsity jacket. Join our Sports Fam online! Instagram: Website: Want to be a guest on Sports Will Save Us All? Send Sasha Graham a message on PodMatch, here:

In one of Sasha's favorite interviews to date, Kaitlyn Verfuerth is in the studio and the energy is through the roof! As a 4-time Paralympian in two different sports, Kaitlyn takes athletic versatility to another level and tackles tough questions on the show like, should we consider people with disabilities 'an inspiration' and, is there a better term than 'able-bodied' for people who are not disabled? Kaitlyn competed in wheelchair tennis at the 2004, 2008, and 2016 Paralympic Games, before transitioning to paracanoe after the 2016 Games, a transition that led her back to the Paralympics in an entirely new sport in 2020. But really, this is just the tip of the iceberg when it come's to Kaitlyn's awesomeness. She is a natural athlete, teacher, coach and mentor and a long-time advocate for inclusion in outdoor spaces. The Meteoric Rise of Girls Flag Football | Whitney Warmus
Girls Flag Football is experiencing an explosive rise in popularity across the United States. According to a recent article in the Sports Business Journal, in just five short years, it’s gone from a niche sport to a powerhouse, earning a spot in the 2028 Summer Olympics and becoming a fully sanctioned sport in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (can the NCAA be far behind?). High school participation has skyrocketed—42,955 girls competed in the 2023-24 season alone, a mind-blowing 105% increase from the previous year. And across the country, nearly half a million girls aged 6 to 17 are now playing flag football. The numbers don’t lie: this is just the beginning. To break it all down, Sasha is joined in studio by Whitney Warmus, a rising star in the Arizona sports scene, to talk about her exciting new role as the General Manager of the Cactus Cup League—a brand-new league in Arizona dedicated to middle and high school girls' flag football. The league is bringing a whole new level of competition, with a combine, draft, and all the excitement you’d expect from a professional sports league.
