Hi Hi Hi I'm so glad you're here! This POP-UP episode was recorded especially for the men who want to do the right thing right now. To my Sisters - You can listen and take notes or just share the link to men in your life and ask them to listen. I speak to them directly and edited it down to 30 minutes. This episode is 101 level teaching and probably best suited for white-hetero-cis men who tend to have the widest blindspots and knowledge gaps (yes, I blame Patriarchy for this too), but there are probably nuggets in here for anyone. Dear men - I am a life coach, mentor and counselor who has worked with women for 22 years and studied patriarchy intensively for over 10 years. I made this podcast because we need you. You are still reading this, so I assume you are open to learning. That's a beautiful thing! The way out is through. xoxo MJ Here are the highlights I'll start with advice for Men right now: Do not lean on women to process these issues unless given explicit permission. Research and educate yourself independently - or with other men - through books, articles, and podcasts and by training the algorithms on your social media accounts. Commit to doing this research at your own pace forever. Notice and interrupt misogynistic thoughts inside of yourself. Notice and interrupt misogynistic behavior from oteher men. Recognize invisible and unpaid labor performed by women and step in to lighten the load without asking "What can I do?" Understand that "not all men" is an unhelpful defense that centers male feelings and signals that you are okay with the MANY other men who are assaulting, degrading, raping, and killing women (Black, brown and trans Women especially) and have been for centuries. Core themes: Patriarchy and misogyny - How these systems harm both women and men. Violence against women - Including sexual assault, rape, death and systemic abuse. The Epstein Files - Recent revelations about powerful people involved in child exploitation and trafficking and the impact it's having on women and those who have been sexually assaulted. Women's rage, grief, annoyance and exhaustion - The emotional toll of living under patriarchal systems. Men's responsibility - Misogyny is a man problem just as White Supremacy is a white-people problem. Without your participation, it will not end. The current political administration and its threats to women's rights. The men's loneliness epidemic and why women are dating and marrying less and expecting something bigger than financial stability from men. The importance of men confronting other men about sexist behavior. The many ways that Women have to be cautious with all men until you show with your words and actions that you are a safe harbor. There's just something about that Calendar Year change that ignites our inner Patriarchal Perfectionist to hammer ourselves into a Self-Improvement plan that will truly stick - that will truly make us happy at last! We call them "New Years Resolutions" and they are typically a short list of bullshit that never sticks anyway which is exactly what the Patriarchy wants. In this episode, I'm going to break it down and give you the path to Revolutionized Resolutions that you can return to at any time of the year! Some highlights: The important distinction between Goals and Desires - and how to define them both as you Fuck up The Patriarchy in your own unique way. Here we stand, Sisters - Facing the National American Holiday we call "Thanksgiving". Together we'll unpack a few ways this tradition is rooted in a wide array of Patriarchal Bullshit such as: "Whitewashing History" by covering up the violent truth of European Colonization as the foundation of the United State's existence. The unpaid labor of Women who were never written into the history of the foundations of America, but are expected to bear the brunt of cooking, cleaning, and peaceful family gathering. Gathering around a "feast" of abundant food while the Trump administration tries to eradicate benefits that support working families living with food insecurity. The cultural expectation to enjoy or tolerate holiday gatherings even when for many they can be exhausting, painful and even traumatizing. I reference Howard Zinn's famous book, "The People's History of The United States" for some historical context (learn more ). And lastly, I offer a series of inquiries, options, and ideas for facing the holiday with integrity and conscious choice about who you want to be and what you want to do (or not do) this Thanksgiving. We know that we're standing AGAINST Patriarchy... So what exactly are we standing FOR? This Episode will take you on a 20-minute Journey to imagine that New World with vivid clarity so that you can stand for it more effectively and "see it" more confidently. (The Guided Visualization starts about 9 minutes in.) I reference the Artist, Activist and self-proclaimed Daydreamer Tricia Hersey who's "Nap Ministry" movement is a powerful example of standing AGAINST something (Patriarchy, Capitalism and Racism) by standing FOR something (Resting as a Black Woman as a form of Resistance). Learn more about the Nap Ministry . The music behind the Guided Visualization is from Selva de Mar - a Spanish group I stumbled into on a narrow cobbled street when I lived in Barcelona, Spain. They were wearing masks and robes - playing handpans and cellos. I was immediately transfixed. I don't have their permission to use the song "Pelos en el Diente" so - we'll see what happens. In this episode we deepen our understanding of Patriarchy by breaking down the definition as described by the Author, Feminist, Activist, Scholar, bell hooks (1952-2021) whose expertise and experience is incredibly helpful for anyone who is ready for deeper learning. I then invite us all to look at The System of Patriarchy through the eyes of your Inner-Child so that you can see clearly how your Grown-Ass has become accustomed to Violence, Destruction, and Inequality as status quo "norms" that are not in any way "normal. For example: Women getting paid less than Men for doing the same job. Naming an entire race of people as less intelligent, capable, and worthy. Working people to the point of exhaustion and death to make a profit. And so much more... May this episode liberate you from the notion that standing for Human Rights is radical.
