Christian Service with Kevin Dunnam and Evon Horton
Thanks for joining us for the Beliefs Matter Podcast! In this episode, Rev. Dr. Maxie Dunnam pulls up a chair with his son Kevin Dunnam and Pastor Evon Horton to talk about the Christian service, specifically a food security and distribution ministry in Brownsville, FL called FarmShare. Kevin's journey has been a long winding road, with redemption and grace through the process of healing and wholeness from drugs and alcohol abuse. Kevin, and his wife Monica, live in Pensacola, Florida and he is the son of Maxie and Jerry Dunnam. After a very long and painful recovery process in various institutions and Alcoholics Anonymous he found his way back to the local Methodist church in Pensacola. He was drawn to the churches Ministry, Serve the Hungry, that provided meals and clothes to the homeless and disadvantaged here in our city. The years of serving the poor has been the most significant source of my personal healing as well as connecting myself with the disenfranchised Christ has called us to serve. My church provided me the opportunity and space to develop an ever-present passion for service. Kevin currently serves as a successful commercial and residential real estate agent, and leases the building where he spent time as a recovery patient. Joel 2:25-27 is a pivotal verse for Kevin: “I will restore to you the years the swarming locusts has eaten, the hopper, the destroyer, and the cutter, my great army, which I sent among you. You shall eat in plenty and be satisfied, and praise the name of the Lord your God, who has dealt wondrously with you.” Evon has been the pastor of Brownsville Church since September 2006. He commented, "The moment I stepped into the sanctuary at Brownsville I sensed the Spirit of the Lord in a powerful way." He believes the move of the God at Brownsville is continuing. Not necessarily in the same manner, but in a way of speaking into the surrounding community, as well as the Pensacola Gulf/Bay Area.
