Bienvenidos a Cáncer en Nuestra Comunidad. Un podcast donde tratamos temas de equidad sanitaria en la comunidad hispana y latino americana. Cuando pensamos en tratar una enfermedad, solemos empezar a considerar lo físico, por ejemplo, la cirugía o la medicación. Pero la psicología y las terapias conductuales también juegan un rol importante, incluso en el tratamiento de enfermedades como el cáncer. En este episodio hablamos con el Dr. Brian González sobre su investigación para ayudar a los pacientes a cambiar comportamientos para mejorar su salud al dejar de fumar o mejorar su sueño. También hablamos de su trabajo para diversificar la fuerza laboral de Moffitt Cancer Center para brindar un mejor servicio a todos los pacientes con cáncer y a sus seres queridos. Human Immunodeficiency Virus or HIV is a virus that attacks the body's immune system and, if left untreated, can lead to AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome). While there is no cure, treatments mean that people with HIV can live long and fulfilling lives. But if this is a podcast about cancer, why are we talking about HIV? Bienvenidos a Cáncer en Nuestra Comunidad. Un podcast donde tratamos temas de equidad sanitaria en la comunidad hispana y latino americana. No importa quién seas o de donde vengas: no es fácil recibir una diagnosis de cáncer. Pero si eres integrante de la comunidad hispana y latinoamericana, esta noticia puede ser un desafío único que puede dar lugar a que los pacientes no reciban la mejor atención disponible. Por eso les presentamos a la Dra. Sarimar Agosto Salgado y a Viviana Suárez, que están trabajando para crear mayor equidad y mejor atención médica para los pacientes en el área de la bahia de Tampa. Sarimar es una oncóloga e investigadora especializada en cáncer de tiroides. Viviana es una especialista en extensión que trabaja con las comunidades locales para brindarles acceso a la atención que necesitan. También es una sobreviviente de cáncer de mama. Las dos juntas, con su conocimiento de las necesidades de las comunidades hispana y latinoamericana y su atención hacia ellas, están trabajando para asegurarse de que todos los que vienen a Moffitt se sientan como "Parte de la Familia". Welcome to Cancer in our Community, where we're having conversations about Black health equity. Getting a cancer diagnosis is never easy, even with a family history. This is the story of our guest Lanse Scriven, who found himself receiving news that he had prostate cancer. From diagnosis, through treatment, to annual check ups, Lanse has had the support of Dr. Kosj Yamoah - a radiation oncologist at Moffitt Cancer Center. In addition to treating his patients, Kosj has a research focus on the biologic factors that predispose African American men to higher prostate cancer incidence and mortality. Dr. Jhanelle Gray is a renowned thoracic medical oncologist and clinical scientist, who is actively involved and leads numerous clinical research trials which have greatly influenced treatments for lung cancer. She also serves on many committees and boards to pay it forward to the next generation of minority physicians, and to speak up when designing studies and treating patients, to ensure that Black patients also get the best care.

Dr. Robinson is an MD with an MBA and a master’s degree in health policy research. As well as treating patients, he also leads Moffitt’s Center for Digital Health which uses tools of IT, Health Data Services, and Digital Innovation. What does that all mean?
