S1 EP10: Radical Friendship
Welcome back to the Punksacola audiozine. This is our 10th episode, and we took a bit of an unexpected break in December. Truth be told, we were plenty busy but just didn’t get an episode out. received an award in December – the Placemaking Award which recognizes that 309 Punk Project has created a significant place in our community. We were really touched by this recognition from , which pushed us to reflect a bit on some of the events and shows we’ve been working on over the last few years. This podcast is a helpful container for gathering together some of that work. Having spaces, safe spaces and noncommodified spaces where different types of people can come together, is really important right now. It seems like a small thing, but it isn’t. This episode is all about Radical Friendship. Friendship that arises out of unexpected places, and friendship that accepts us as we are. Friendship that helps us to be our best, most creative selves. And this episode is also about the spaces where we find such friendships. S1 EP9: Scene Kids
The scene. It’s a sort of community, like a family, maybe a dysfunctional family. Some people stumble into the scene. Others are basically born into it. This episode of Punksacola is about a few Scene Kids, the people who came to the punk scene because their parents were already here, going to shows, booking bands, making flyers, or writing zines. Being a parent is tough, but punk and the DIY ethos that goes with it can serve as a framework for some parents who introduce their kids to the community and values that punk espouses. Being a punk parent makes sense for the parents, but what about the kids? How do kids who came up around punk view their exposure to the scene? What kind of impression does the experience leave on them? Episode 9 features: Opening music by Music by , , , , & Lauren recollects 's impact on the Pensacola punk scene, including his involvement with (2:26) Kaylan Richbourg of Marigold's Apprentice shares about playing music from an early age (4:02) Oliver Gougeon and his dad, Ramie, talk about music, shows, venues, and what it takes to build a scene (14:44) Scene Report by Lauren spotlighting a small segment of (31:00) by Marigold's Apprentice (36:57) For more info & to support:

S1 EP8: Punk is Queer, vol 1
The queering of the punk scene over the last several decades has become decidedly more noticeable and beautiful to see with queer and femme musicians and showgoers proudly and boldly taking up more space in the community while other punks and venues likewise also allow more space for people to show up with their full selves. Punk has always been queer – in the sense that punk music and counterculture has always been about deviance, blurring lines and pushing the boundaries of acceptability, mostly notably with seminal bands such as The Slits, Pansy Division, Team Dresch, and Limp Wrist. This episode is the first in a series titled Punk is Queer, exploring the relationship between queer community and punk scene. Episode 8 features: Music by , & A is also available on the Punksacola account talks about finding queer community as a teenager and young adult (1:55) Cristy has also created a playlist for this episode. Check out the playlist on or . and perform a cover of the song "Sweet Transvestite with a Broken Nose" by the Welsh wrestler (10:55) Laynie discusses the role that we all play in developing a strong, healthy punk community that allows everyone to show up as their full selves (13:42) Scene Report by Lauren spotlighting the show organized by at 9/6/24 with , , and (26:00) "Never Can" by For more info & to support: Also, check out this guide published by NPR: "Queer as Punk: A Guide to LGBTQIA+ Punk"

S1 EP7: Underground
The underground stands in contrast to the mainstream. The mainstream – you know, all the stuff that everyone is consuming. The burgers, the sneakers, the speakers, the cosmetic upgrades. But the underground -- in shadowy rooms, to small but intimate crowds, usually unnoticed by the mainstream – is where we dwell. We live on a different frequency, different values, different interests. We can’t stand the gray and the monotony and the pressure over things that are so meaningless. We’re not buying what they’re selling. We are rowdy and vibrant and creative. We are the underground. Episode 7 features: Music by , , & Chriss Huff discusses the documentary film "Big Clown" about the band of the same name (2:23) The musician performs a song during a show at 309 in March (14:00) Scott and Aaron share the Pensacola Underground A-Z Archival Exhibit in this chapter prepared by library intern Seth Mattei (17:32) Scene Report by Delta Twerk at (22:35) "Freaky" by Big Clown (32:32) For more info & to support:
