The Heart Healer Returns: Healing, Community & Your 2026 Word
In this powerful return conversation, Victoria Finch — known as The Heart Healer — joins host Deneen L. Garrett for an intimate, deeply reflective dialogue on inner child healing, emotional freedom, leadership, and the power of community. Victoria shares the origin of her healing work, the childhood moment that shaped her life’s mission, and how decades of trauma recovery, hypnotherapy, and personal healing now inform the way she supports women at pivotal turning points. Together, Deneen and Victoria explore: Why so many high-achieving women struggle with feeling unseen How unresolved childhood experiences quietly shape adult relationships and leadership What happens in a woman’s nervous system when she enters a truly safe community Why the next chapter of a woman’s life deserves to be named, honored, and lived fully This episode also introduces a reflective ritual: choosing your Word of the Year for 2026 — not as a goal, but as an intention and compass for how you want to live and feel. Victoria reveals her 2026 word — Freedom — and invites listeners to begin listening for the word that’s calling them forward. This conversation is especially resonant for women who have spent years caregiving, leading, surviving, and giving — and are now ready to choose themselves, their joy, and their next chapter with intention. ⏱️ EPISODE TIMESTAMPS 00:00–04:00 | Returning with intention & entering community 04:00–09:00 | Victoria’s origin story & becoming The Heart Healer 09:00–14:00 | Defining moments that shaped her healing work 14:00–19:00 | Healing, leadership & choosing yourself 19:00–24:00 | What women carry at life’s turning points 24:00–28:00 | The work Victoria is doing now & transformation in this season 28:00–31:00 | Community, nervous system safety & the Dream Lifestyle™ Collective 31:00–33:00 | Naming the next chapter of a woman’s life 33:00–35:00 | 2026 Word of the Year: Freedom, intention & closing reflections 🌿 ABOUT THIS EPISODE Episode 191 This is the final episode of the year and a powerful closing reflection on: Healing forward, not backward Community as medicine Freedom, joy, and reinvention after 50 Listening to the quiet pull toward what’s next 👩🏽🦱 GUEST BIO — VICTORIA FINCH Victoria Finch, known as The Heart Healer, is a transformational speaker, two-time bestselling author, songwriter, and master hypnotherapist with over 30 years of experience in inner child healing, childhood trauma recovery, mindset coaching, and personal development. What Are You Mixed With? Navigating Anti-Blackness, White Supremacy & Light-Skinned Privilege with Dr. Wendy Ashley
Episode 190 In this intimate and deeply necessary conversation, we’re joined by Dr. Wendy Ashley — a nationally recognized Black and biracial clinician, professor, author, change agent, and Department Chair of the MSW program at Cal State Northridge. Her current book is a bold act of reclamation: a vulnerable exploration of biracial identity, anti-Blackness, white supremacy, and light-skinned privilege — and the healing that becomes possible when we stop suppressing our truths. Together, we unpack identity, belonging, silences within families, colorism, community tension, and the emotional labor of navigating a world that demands monoracial clarity. Dreamers… this one will sit with you. ✨ In This Episode We Explore What it really feels like to grow up biracial in a world demanding monoracial clarity — the isolation, identity confusion, and early pressure to “read” how others see you. The hidden silences inside biracial families — especially being raised by a white mother who never discussed race, and the emotional cost of navigating whiteness without language or protection. Anti-Blackness, white supremacy, and light-skinned privilege — how these forces shape belonging, community dynamics, and why many Black women test or police biracial identity. Global Blackness and identity abroad — how traveling to Toronto, Lisbon, and South Africa reveals cultural differences in how “Blackness” is defined, understood, and embodied. Reclaiming identity after decades of shrinking — Dr. Ashley’s journey to stop apologizing, stop performing, take up space, and live fully as a Black biracial woman in all her complexity. 💬 Powerful Moments “I don’t have to justify my belonging. I don’t have to translate my existence for people who don’t understand it.” “I spent 50 years thinking these stories were just mine… then I learned how many people were lonely inside their identity.” “Living fully means I’m no longer disappearing. I take up space — with all my complexity.” 🌟 About Today’s Guest — Dr. Wendy Ashley Dr. Wendy Ashley, Psy.D., LCSW is a Black and biracial clinician, professor, author, and Department Chair of the Master of Social Work program at California State University, Northridge. Renowned for her work in antiracist clinical practice, intersectionality, and trauma-informed care, she bridges scholarship, service, and healing. Stop Waiting, Start Living: Embracing Vulnerability & Taking Action with Souraya Christine

Stop Waiting, Start Living: Embracing Vulnerability & Taking Action with Souraya Christine
Stop Waiting, Start Living: Embracing Vulnerability & Taking Action with Souraya Christine Episode 174 Throwback In this powerful throwback episode of Women of Color: An Intimate Conversation, host Deneen L. Garrett sits down with Souraya Christine to explore the transformative power of vulnerability and why taking action despite fear is essential for living a fulfilling life. Souraya shares her journey of overcoming self-doubt, embracing her voice, and stepping boldly into her purpose. If you've ever felt held back by fear, this episode will inspire you to push through and chase your dreams—because life is too short to wait for the "perfect" moment. Full Episode Notes: The Power of Vulnerability Many of us see vulnerability as a weakness, but Souraya reframes it as a superpower. She shares how she hesitated to publish her personal story, fearing judgment and exposure. However, once she embraced her truth, she realized her words had the power to heal—not just herself, but others as well. "There is that one person that needed to hear something that was said." – Souraya Christine Authenticity creates deep connections, and by sharing our struggles, we inspire others to do the same. Souraya’s experience is a testament to the strength that comes from being open, honest, and unafraid to be seen. Taking Action Despite Fear Fear is inevitable, but it should never be the reason we stay stuck. Souraya urges women of color to push past fear and take action, even in the face of uncertainty. "If there's something down on the inside of you that is begging, screaming, crying, clawing to get out, let it out." – Souraya Christine One simple technique she shares is the "countdown method"—instead of overthinking, count down from five and take immediate action. This small shift can break the cycle of hesitation and push you forward toward your goals. Life is Too Short to Hold Back One of the most profound takeaways from this episode is the reminder that time is not guaranteed. Souraya urges us to stop waiting for the right moment and start living boldly now. "Life is too short... you don't have time to waste. You don't have time to wonder. You don't have time to self-doubt." – Souraya Christine She also delivers a sobering truth: No matter how much we dedicate ourselves to work or obligations, if we’re not prioritizing our dreams, we are selling ourselves short. "If something happens to you and you can't move forward because your body decided to work against you, guess what? Your job is going to fill your position the next day." – Souraya Christine Key Takeaways: ✅ Vulnerability is strength—own your story and use it to empower others. ✅ Fear is natural, but it shouldn’t be paralyzing—count down, take action, and trust yourself. ✅ Time is precious—stop waiting and start living boldly today. More from Souraya Christine Souraya is a transformational speaker, author, and founder of L.I.L.A.C. – Ladies Influencing Life Altering Change, a nonprofit dedicated to mental health and personal empowerment. She works with businesses, nonprofits, and individuals to promote self-care, healing, and actionable growth. 📍 Connect with Souraya: 🔗 📸 📘 💼 📚 🎧 Listen & Take the First Step Toward Your Dream Life! ✨ What’s one fear holding you back from taking action? This book is a collection of captivating stories that delve into the world of Black lesbian romance, a genre that Ty felt was underrepresented in literature. The Inspiration Behind the Book Ty shared her journey of writing "The Color of Honey," which stemmed from her frustration at the lack of stories featuring Black lesbians. Despite being an avid reader of lesbian literature, she found it challenging to find narratives that resonated with her experiences. Many existing stories either depicted Black lesbians in a light she didn't appreciate or were primarily focused on erotica. This realization prompted her to take action: if she couldn't find the stories she wanted to read, she would write them herself. A Diverse Audience When asked about the target audience for her book, Ty emphasized that the stories are for everyone. The emotions and experiences depicted in the book—love, desire, fear, and the courage to connect with others—are universal. Ty believes that anyone, regardless of their background, can relate to the feelings expressed in her stories. This inclusivity is a significant aspect of her work, as it aims to bridge gaps and foster understanding among different communities. Personal Connections in the Stories Throughout the conversation, Ty revealed that she sees pieces of herself in nearly every story within the book. Each narrative reflects different stages of her life and experiences, making the collection deeply personal. For instance, she mentioned that younger versions of herself can be found in stories like "Lucky Brick," while more mature reflections appear in "Lady de Jour," which focuses on older women. Real-Life Inspirations Ty's stories are rooted in real-life experiences, often drawing from her own life and the lives of those around her. She highlighted the importance of authenticity in her writing, aiming to create relatable scenarios that resonate with readers. For example, one story features characters who repeatedly bump into each other at social events, capturing the essence of how relationships can develop in familiar circles. The Future of Ty's Writing As the conversation wrapped up, Ty hinted at the possibility of a sequel to "The Color of Honey." While she is still contemplating the direction of the next book, she expressed excitement about exploring new stories and characters. Ty's passion for storytelling and her commitment to representing Black lesbian experiences in literature are evident, and readers can look forward to more from her in the future. "The Color of Honey" is not just a collection of stories; it is a celebration of love, identity, and the rich tapestry of Black lesbian experiences. Ty Robbins' work invites readers to explore a world that is often overlooked, providing a platform for voices that deserve to be heard. As Ty continues her journey as an author, her stories will undoubtedly inspire and resonate with many, fostering a deeper understanding of the diverse experiences within the LGBTQIA community.
