The Appropriation of Black Culture in America
Black people have had a hand in creating everything in our country: the infostructure, the buildings, the music, the art, the dance moves, the slang, the beauty standards, the food, and, let's face it, the wealth. And yet, time and time again, white people have taken what they've wanted and left the creators behind. In the wake of Kendrick Lamar's Super Bowl halftime show, we wanted to chat about the role that black culture has played in our society and the credit that has been due to black creators and the black experience.
