Everyone Suffers: A Prosecutor’s Truth with Imran Ali Today’s episode is “truth telling” at its best with the untimely death of Dante Wright and the far reaching impacts on those tasked with prosecuting Officer Kim Potter. Imran Ali prosecuted this highly visible media shooting in Minneapolis where Officer Kim Potter accidentally shot Wright when she reached for her taser and accidentally used a firearm. Minneapolis Police OfficerPotter, was sent to jail for manslaughter by Imran Ali and subsequently released in 2023. Ali quit in protest after this case. He lost everything, and suffered from severe trauma due to his career as both a public defender and a prosecutor. Following his recovery he rebounded to serve as a police consultant with LETAC USA and a focus on wellness. This episode leaves us all with a lasting impact and inspiring reminder how important our truth is. Imran is a shareholder with Eckberg Lammers and the Executive Director of Training, Consulting, and Investigation Services (LETAC). As a career long trial lawyer, he focuses his practice on Complex Litigation, Prosecution and Law Enforcement Training. Imran also serves as the General Counsel for the Minnesota Police and Peace Officers Association, Senior Advisor for the Minnesota Chiefs of Police Association, Communication Specialist for the Minnesota Sheriffs’ Association and Senior Advisor for the Indiana Sheriffs’ Association. Imran has been a trial attorney for the past 20 years. His extensive experience is recognized both in the courtroom and the community. Working extensively with victims of crime has provided Imran with the passion needed to succeed in the courtroom. He has handled some of the most complex cases, including homicide, sexual assault, and human trafficking. Imran has spent much of his career engaging those employed within the criminal justice profession. From training new judges in the State of Minnesota at the University of Minnesota law school, to teaching law students at the Mitchell Hamline Law School, Imran enjoys engaging individuals as they chart their career path. Through this he has had the opportunity to train thousands of law enforcement professionals and prosecutors all over the country. Sergeant Jon Butler Jonathan chose to finish his bachelor’s degree in Justice at the University of Alaska Anchorage when he heard that they offered a great program here. He realized that he wanted to learn more about Alaska Native history since he had been here for 13 years. Jonathan saw that the Alaska Natives Studies program offered courses that put an emphasis on Alaska Native heritage and were taught by Alaska Native instructors. This allowed him to learn more about an Alaskan Native perspective on historical events from instructors who may have had firsthand experience with the historical events. He saw that these courses taught students about history, but they also are about preserving and saving the culture. Jonathan felt that it would be exciting to learn more about the culture and seeing these efforts helped him make the decision to add the Alaska Native Studies minor. Mr. Butler hopes to use his Alaska Native Studies minor to gain more awareness and appreciation for the diversity in Alaska Native history and cultures. He hopes to be able to use his knowledge to recognize the differences throughout the regions that include various tribes and cultures in Alaska. Jonathan also wants to use his minor to create ways for the Anchorage Police Department to promote relationships with people who are Alaska Native. He has seen that there may be barriers that could prevent relationships from being built, because there may be a lack of understanding of what has happened historically. Having learned about Alaskan Native history he feels that this could be the first step towards creating the opportunity to develop those relationships. Jonathan believes that sharing the value of acknowledging and knowing that it is important to restore and sustain Alaska Native cultures is a way to start those relationships with the Alaskan Native community. Jonathan’s future career involves developing sustainable relationships with the Alaska Native community through the Alaska Anchorage Police Department. He hopes there will be an opportunity for each other to communicate and for the Anchorage Police Department to establish partnerships with Alaska Native organizations. Discovery Ministries was founded in 1974 in Westville, NJ. Since then over 30,000 youth, young adults, and family members have participated in spiritual retreats in an atmosphere of love and acceptance that have helped them grow, pursue their dreams, and develop their talents and gifts. During 2011-12, the Discovery Retreat House was renovated to expand their mission. The renovated house provides handicap access to retreat participants and also serves as a “home away from home” for special needs and chronically ill children and adults and their families. MANNION, S.T.L., M.A. is the Director of Community Relations for the Diocese of Camden, New Jersey. Ordained to the Priesthood in 1971, Msgr. Mannion is a pioneer in the field of post-abortion healing, having authored some of the first and finest books on the topic, including Abortion and Healing – A Cry to Be Whole (1986). He has conducted training for clergy and lay professionals throughout the world on this topic. His work has helped to develop the Church’s understanding of the wounds abortion brings and of the path to healing. His ministry inspired Dr. Theresa Burke to focus on the topic of healing after abortion and to develop the Rachel’s Vineyard retreat program, now the world’s largest ministry for postabortion healing. Msgr. Mannion is now developing a new line of thought linking the path of healing with the traditional schools of spirituality in the Church. Msgr. Mannion has served as a Cable News Network commentator for the funeral of Mother Teresa, with whom he had the privilege of working. His many other media appearances include Meet the Press, the Charlie Rose Show, and MSNBC. He holds advanced degrees in theology, Scripture, and youth ministry.
