Why a structured work week is your key to working less
Hello, and welcome to another episode of The Simplify Business with Brinie Podcast. I'm your host, Brinie, and this week guys, I'm talking all about why a structured work week is the key to you working less. Now for those of you who have been following all of my things, you know that there's been some big changes in my world and, in order to move forward with , what I've decided to do is poll my audience in my , you can go and find that link in the show notes and ask them what their biggest frustrations they are experiencing as a passion-fuelled, service business owner. So two weeks ago, I did some free training around the third biggest frustration which was all around "three strategies when the work is becoming overwhelming" because that is a frustration. This week, the second biggest entry was that you feel like you're working all of the time. And so the free training that I've done over on my and the , which you can go and watch, is showing you why a structured workweek is the key to working less. But what I have found when I work with my beautiful clients, or when I'm more when I'm running any kind of free group, is that there seems to be a lot of pushback when I start talking about "building a structured workweek" And at first I thought that I was doing something wrong that that I was talking about it incorrectly. But what I've since come to realise is the whole concept of building a really structured workweek, gets a lot of pushback because of the women that I get to work with. Okay, so if you're still listening, this is for you today. And what I want to do is with this podcast episode, have this as a bit of a precursor to watching that free training. Okay. Pushback when talking about "A Structured Work Week" This is some of the pushback that I get when I talk about building a structured workweek. #1 So the first pushback is usually from someone who really has a full time job who really wants to try to try these. And when we talk about building a structured workweek, there's this whole pushback of "wait a minute" and "no I don't want this to be real. I just want to know that I could" I don't I don't want to make my life more hectic. I don't want to stress myself out. I just I just want to start this business and know that I could do it. inject a bit of joy into my life" And I love that. I love that and that's where that fear comes from that I'm going to make this a really big deal for you a really big thing. Okay, now I want to be clear I'm absolutely not. But we will get to that in a second. #2 The second biggest piece of fear I get is around "No No Brinie You know if I'm if I build a structured workweek that makes this real, this is a thing. This is a thing and I don't want this to be a thing. You know, like I'm not ready to run a business. I don't want to be a business owner. I just this is an idea I had and if I keep it at arm's length, it's not really real" Okay. Now that fear. I have I have had that fear myself. And what I can say to you is we will move you through that but you have the business no matter what you do. If you have a service (and you can have a little chuckle at yourself while you're listening to this) if you have a service and there is money exchanging hands, and my friend what you have in your hot little hand is a business. Okay? And you have a choice on how you operate it. That's with you, okay, it doesn't matter how I define it. It is real and it is happening. You will living it you're actually doing the thing you want to do. You just don't want to tell yourself that you are and that's a that's a great problem to have. But and I'm going to show you how you can implement a structured work week. #3 And the third biggest one I get is "Brinie. You don't understand. I can't have a structured workweek because my life is really chaotic. I've got the kids I've got a full time job. You know, I cannot commit to doing something on Monday night. Yeah, because I just don't know what my life is gonna look like" Guys, the reason I am so open about my background is not because I want you to know all the things that I've done. Okay, it's because I need you to understand I've lived that life. I've lived that life a number of times. I still I still live that life. Okay. I am a woman running a passion-fuelled, service business, who has two small children whose husband does not want to be retired out. He loves his job. So for the mornings, I'm a single mum. I'm doing all of the things. I do all the school afternoon activities. My kids I'm sick, I'm with them. I'm with them on the weekends doing all the activities doing all the sports runs. I want to be the mum in the P&C. Okay, so I my life is not I'm not working 40 hours over here. So I get you I feel you and what I want to say to you all with this fear of a structured workweek is it's a concept. It isn't actually *Mondays you do this * Tuesdays you do this. That works if it's your sole business, and I can help you with that. But this concept of a structured workweek is I need to get clear on three things. Three things, okay. The first is you need to understand why you're doing your business. 100% your Why. Why are you doing this? Okay, You need to understand what your definition of success is. And you're going to hear me talk about this a lot. Because I am someone who was raised with a number of different definitions of success, none of which as I've since learned, have any bearing on how happy I am or on what success really is. Okay, you are not going to hear me tell you that $ figure coming in the door is a definition of success. If at some point in the future, you are working with me I will make you write down a piece a number on a piece of paper that's more for measuring your marketing and to help me move forward not because we define success by numbers, okay, what is your definition of success and just so I can explain to you a little bit more about what that means for me. Nowhere written on my computer staring at the face each and every day. Is there $1 figure okay, my definition of success is making a living, helping people and being fully available to my family when they need me. Okay, that's my definition of success. So what is your definition of success? And then thirdly, thirdly, we build your business around that okay? Seriously, we backwards engineer this thing. We don't start with a 40 hour work week and whittle it down. And what I mean by that is you need to get really clear on how you make money and what tasks make you the cash. What tasks are the ones you actually need to do to bring money in the door and then we back within your knee that work around the life that you want to have. And this works if you want to bring in $100 a week. $500 a week, $1,000 a week it's all the same? Because then we become fixated on making the business work for you. It's your business and your life. It's all absolutely possible. But we work from a different starting point. And the reason I wanted to jump on and have a chat with you about this today is sometimes I feel people can shut off when they hear something. I know I used to and I think "that's not for me. That's not the life I want to lead." But if you can take anything away from today is that you are amazing. Okay you if you have this concept in your mind, if you aren't already dabbling. If you are generating income from this (and I know some of you listening you do smash your income goals), you're doing it, you're doing all of the things. Let's just work smarter. Call yourself whatever you want to call it. I hate the phrase small business because it makes you feel used to make me feel like what I was doing was important. If any part of what you do brings joy to yourself or joy to someone else, what you do is important and needs to be treated as such. Okay, so shoulders back. You've got this and you can absolutely build a business around the life that you currently have. Okay, I'm gonna leave it there. What I want you to do is to mark down those three things. why are you doing this what is your definition of success? what do you need to do to bring money in each and every week? Hello and welcome to another episode of the Simplified Biz with Brinie podcast. I'm your host Brinie and this week guys, I come to you with actually a bit of an apology. So for those who have been following along just last month, we have been opening the doors to the and I got to have some beautiful chats with a lot of women. And over the course of the month in the live sessions that I was running, and doors have closed so if you want to be notified again, make sure you jump on the for that program. But over the course of that month what became abundantly clear is I have this beautiful resource that I created a few years ago actually and I've confirmed it's still going to work for you. And I have it in some of my programs, but I haven't put it up as an available, freebie for you guys again, A lot of the conversations that I've been having over the last month with a lot of the women were around this notion of money. I can't afford to sign up to any program because I need to get more sales on the board. I can't afford to spend more money because I need to get more customers in. I'm not making enough money per person. I'm not making enough money for the hours I'm working in my business. I'm brand new and I just don't have any money to invest in my business. Now, when we talk about money, guys, what we're talking about here is this concept that if you want to have money from your business, and I'm not mocking anyone at all here, the number one thing we need to be doing is getting more sales in our business. Getting more customers through the door And if you're running a service based business, that means getting more customers through the door. And this is the part I have found that people really struggle because there's this idea out there that build it and they will come word of mouth, people who show and this one that you're gonna hear me talk a lot about this whole idea of being sexy online. And I'm not talking about only fans. I'm literally talking about these people who are so peppy in the sexy all the time. It's exhausting! And when you view that as the bomb, that's what you need to be reaching to get more customers, it can be exhausting and overwhelming. And so many fears come up. And I've realised that if you've heard me talk, you know what I'm going to say, we all need to just take the breath and stop we need to put our blinkers on and we need to get really good at getting customers into our business effortlessly. Effortless Sales in your Service Business And this is a word you're gonna hear me talk a lot more about. Because attracting customers to you is not as difficult as people make it seem... It doesn't involve video. It doesn't involve being on this content, rat race. It doesn't involve taking up a lot of time and energy, which is what I'm hearing from a lot of people you know, "I'm so busy running I just don't have time to market my business." No, it doesn't have to be like that at all. And while I do encourage everyone to have a personal brand attached to their service business, this is not something that is going to require you to be putting yourself out there every single day. Okay, because I know a lot of us fear that (I don't now, it was a fear I had PREVIOUSLY when I was running my previous service based business) Okay. So what I realised is I have a resource it is my It is a guide to getting more customers in 30 days. ----> In just 10 minutes a day. So if you are a time poor service provider who is struggling to find the time to market your business, then this is for you. Easing the overwhelm of marketing your service business Okay, so what I'm aiming here is to ease the overwhelm that you're experiencing and show you how to market your business in just 10 minutes a day without having to come up with constant content to post. Now I've got simple yet effective strategies that are going to show you how to maximise your marketing efforts in minimal time because I understand guys understand how busy you are. And again, it is my ultimate time saving guide to effortlessly attracting more customers. Now, what I'm hoping that you walk away with once you've got this download is an understanding that it is possible to generate more sales in your business without posting more because for some reason, there's this fixation on social media and I gotta tell you, it's, you know, it's part of your marketing strategy, but it's definitely not the one thing you should be doing. "Gosh, I wish I was where they are" Or, "Wow they are successful, they must have been lucky" Sometimes it's easy to look at successful people and think that they have it easy, that they were lucky, or it's just 'because' that they are so successful. What we often forget is just how much time, work and commonly failure, those successful people had to go through to get to where they are. You see, that part of the process isn't as 'glamorous' and it usually doesn't get spoken about. Make more sales by doing LESS!
I'm gonna marketing nerd out in today's episode! I've had the pleasure of chatting with a lot of my beautiful, passion-fuelled business woman this week and the topic of "consistent income" has come up. Lot of my clients and a lot of the women who book calls with me, are so amazing at what they do, and they have such passion for what they do. I just I love it. It's probably one of the favourite parts of my job getting to talk to these women. They've gone out there with no marketing background at all, which is just wonderful, and they pushed, pushed, pushed. Most of them have started businesses from little more than a dream and now they have sustainable businesses, which is wonderful. And now they've hit a plateau. It's time to do more, get more in the door. And this is where they invariably hit a bit of a cap, right? Because they've gotten so far on excitement and and they have this business and now it's busy. And here's where everyone gets a little bit unstuck. Because if you have spent any time online of late, it is a hot mess of people: screaming strategies at you; screaming their expertise; telling you the latest fads telling you what's out there, and what you should be doing in your business with (hear me out) and this is my rant with little to no regard for you, your business or your audience. You cannot be following one generic strategy if your audience isn't out there I'll use the example of tick tok... Please do not start marketing on tick tock if you don't know if your audience is out there. Seriously (And I know people who are doing this because I think it's the next big fad and trend) So they spent all this time learning this system time that they don't have time that could be better spent marketing and getting directly in front of their perfect ideal client. I told you I rant a little bit. So here's what I'm proposing. Because I'm a firm believer that anybody can run their own business. There are a few things you need, obviously, but you've got the passion and the drive. I am more than happy to help you. And in that vein, what I want to do is to show you how much simpler you can be marketing your business if we just keep our focus on our ideal clients. And I know that all of you out there listening know who your ideal client is, okay? And we get distracted by outside external influences telling us the next best place to market but we're forgetting all about our ideal client. Now there are so many ways of getting in front of your perfect clients, WHATEVER your business may be, that people tend to ignore because they seem so simple. So what I'm proposing is this in my this week, "Grow your passion-fuelled Business with Brinie" Come over and join us. You could do it yourself - but will you?
Hello and welcome to another episode of the Simplify Business with Brinie podcast! This week I wanted to share a hilarious story in my world and I wanted to know if this resonates with you. So hubby and I have decided that with everything that was going on with: our renovations in the house the businesses, school and all this kind of stuff, we were going to finally get ourselves a cleaner. We've been talking about for years so we finally decided, yep, we're gonna get ourselves a cleaner As everyone knows Now... as everyone knows, if you get a cleaner, they did not tidy - they simply clean the space. So the night before you need to make sure everything is tidy and up off the floor in this space, and then they clean the space, which is fantastic - don't get me wrong, and we've had them come once a fortnight now. What started happening was we put into this habit of tidying the home every Wednesday night. We all get up and we all start clearing. And then all of a sudden the house looked AMAZING every Wednesday night because they would come in on Thursday. We would tidy and put everything away. We can do it ourselves! The kids would put their stuff away and then my husband would decide that he could clean the space! For those of you don't know I am not a domestic goddess. I don't cook I don't clean. I don't shop. Don't ask me how I found this man but he's amazing. He does all of those jobs in our family. Anyway, so he would then pull out the vacuum cleaner and clean the bench tops, and clean the oven and all this kind of stuff. And so we were talking and he says when we were looking at the budget (we were really trying to push forward with the renovation) He said, you know, I don't think we need the cleaners anymore. I think we've got this thing down pat. I think let's put a stop on the cleaners. Let's funnel that money into finishing the Reno. Now, some of you will probably listen to this and you're laughing because you know what I'm about to say. So I sent the email. "Thank you so much. We no longer need your services" and they wanted to check if anything was wrong. "No nothing's wrong. It's just we're on a budget. This is this is something we can do ourselves" and I'm LAUGHING when I think back.... Can you guess what happened? Okay... So what do you think happened when we took away the pressure of the cleaners coming on Thursday? Do you think any Wednesday nights we tidied? We had no motivation to do that. It was that accountability. There was a no one coming to knock on the door. Do you think we did anything on a Wednesday night? I can 100% tell you (I'm so embarrassed) that no....no, we did not. There was no tidying on Wednesday night. And if there is no tiding on Wednesday night.... Riddle me this batman.... Was there any cleaning on a Thursday? No! It was no cleaning on a Thursday! I wasn't doing it - I was down here on calls. He wasn't doing it. The space wasn't cleared to do it. The house was a hot mess. On top of that still. With the renovation dust everywhere. Oh my gosh. It's hilarious story. What accountability do you need to make changes in your business? This an example of the accountability that you need to make things happen in your business. Okay, in your life in your world. We all know that we can get up and go and work out go for the walk around the block for our YouTube video Go and get some weights and work out outside... But what makes you work out? What makes you take that extra step? It's having someone holding you accountable to take the action. I can drop and give myself 20 push up for now. I'm not going to - I need to sign up and go to the gym tonight to make that happen. Okay, same with the cleaning. Guess what ... the cleaners have been rehired and they are back because we have realised that that is just something that is not going to happen unless we are held accountable. And I suspect you're gonna hear the same podcast in about six months where my husband says "Oh, but the house is clean on Wednesday and we can clean it..." but the reality is, it's not gonna happen. It's just not gonna happen. And now I'm going to ask you ... what is something that is just not going to happen in your business If you don't have to show up. If you don't have to report to someone. And I'm going to hazard a guess that is it your goals. It's the next thing you need to be working on. I know for a lot of my clients who are in my group programs that have monthly accountability. That is not enough. It is not enough to have once a month you tell me what you're working on and for me to chase you up. It's not enough. And it's not enough for you to see me twice a month to engage with me and to show up that's not enough for you to : fix a problem in your business for you to take that action in your business. And I gotta tell you, it took me working in a program that costs $10,000 and I had all sorts of accountability for me to really show up. Action Takers If you're listening still to this, you know that I'm talking about . Action takers is not $10,000. What action takers is? Is you having to show up each and every Monday and see me and talk to me and tell me where you're at. Every Monday we're going to look at the spreadsheet where you have put your goals and I'm going to check in with you and see where you're at. See what's holding you back. Cheer for you if you've hit it, but guess what, you're moving forward l Lament with you if you miss it, but show you what you need to do to move forward. Because I'm a lot of things: I'm an extrovert. I'm a talker, but fundamentally I'm a problem solver. And if you're looking for a problem solver in your business, a motivational person, someone to keep you accountable, then I'm that person. Because some feedback I've received from previous coaches is I am too invested in my clients businesses. I care too much. This isn't a program that I'm opening to funneling as many people as possible. This is designed to be maximum 10. If we don't hit the 10 then I will reopen the program in the next 90 day period. We're only going to be working in 90 day blocks. Okay, I am capping this program for the year of 2023 at 10. So it's not like you're gonna get lost in the crowd. And it is a closed program which you sign up for for the year. Okay. That is how I've decided to operate this. That is how I've decided that I'm going to be able to show up each and every Monday at 9.30am Australian Eastern Standard Time to help support you to help push you; to help motivate you and to help keep you accountable. Because I want to know what your dreams are, and I want nothing more than for you to hit them. So if you if you're someone listening and you think "you know what, I can do this on my own" that's great. I want nothing more than that for you. If you're someone who is able to clean your house and work out in your backyard, and stay on track, I am personally a bit jealous of you but I think that's wonderful! I think that is great. But if you're someone like me, who needs that accountability; you need someone showing up for them; You need someone turning up at your front door to clean the space after you have already tidied; then I'm inviting you to come check out and join us.
