Episode 15 - "It's Bigger Than Me" the Power of Faith, Family, and Friends with Terry Tucker
From college basketball player, to corporate employee, to SWAT hostage negotiator, to high school basketball coach, has lived a lot of experiences in his life. But 11 years ago Terry's life changed forever. "Terry, in my 25 years as a doctor, I've never seen this form of cancer," Terry's friend and podiatrist said. "You have a rare form of melanoma." Back then, melanoma was a death sentence. He was given only two years to live. Again, that was 11 years ago. "I look back on my life and say, Okay. When I was young, I felt my purpose was athletics to play sports. And then as an adult to be in law enforcement, that was another purpose," Tucker says. "And now in all honesty I'm probably coming towards the end of my life. My purpose has changed again to put as much goodness, positivity, love, motivation, back into the world. So I think your purpose can change over life. You can have multiple purposes." For nearly five years, Terry's life was a rollercoaster of agony and determination. He endured weekly injections of Interferon, a treatment notorious for its debilitating flu-like side effects. Yet, Terry persisted, firmly believing that this was the battle he had to fight. But the adversary was relentless. Cancer returned, forcing Terry to make a life-altering choice. He made the difficult decision to amputate his left foot, hoping it would put an end to the relentless disease. But the cancer continued its advance, ultimately leading to the amputation of Terry's left leg above the knee. Amid the turmoil, Terry discovered tumors in his lungs. The battle has seemed never-ending, yet he's clung to hope. For three more grueling years, Terry has continued treatment, uncertain of the future that awaits him. "It's bigger than me. This isn't just about me," Terry says. "If it were about me, I would have quit a long time ago." Through this journey, Terry has undergone a profound transformation in his perspective on life. He learned to cherish each day as a precious gift. Sometimes, the most significant victories were as simple as getting out of bed and making it to the couch. Terry has drawn strength from three pillars: his faith in God, the love of his family, and the unwavering support of his friends. Never has he pointed fingers at God, choosing instead to believe that this odyssey was meant to refine him. Inspired by his own journey, Terry felt compelled to share his story through a book, His motive was not riches or fame but to inspire others to find their inner strength. He believes that every individual possesses unique gifts and talents, and their mission should be to uncover and share them with the world. Today, Terry Tucker continues his battle against cancer, participating in a clinical trial drug that may not save his own life but carries the promise of benefiting others in the future. "So if I can bring goodness, if I can bring positivity, if I can bring motivation, I can bring love into your world in a service capacity...I want to be able to serve other people," Terry says. Episode 12 - Journey to Forgiveness Pt. 1 - Letting Go for Good with Leigh Richardson
In a thought-provoking episode of the "Where You're Going Podcast," John brings on brain guru and mental health expert from and the to discuss the captivating but sometimes frightening topic of forgiveness. With an in-depth understanding of the human brain, Richardson sheds light on the intricacies of forgiveness as a continuous process that fuels personal growth and emotional well-being. Here are some of the biggest takeaways: The Common Experience of Hurt: Leigh acknowledges that everyone has been hurt by someone at some point in their lives, creating unresolved emotions like bitterness and resentment. By focusing on what we can control rather than dwelling on the past, we can forge a path towards forgiveness, acceptance, and healing. The Link Between Forgiveness and Mental Wellness: Inner peace and forgiveness not only improve our relationships with friends and family but also enhance our mental health, reduce anxiety, and promote overall well-being. Recognizing the impact of negative emotions on the body, Leigh emphasizes the need to prioritize forgiveness for a stronger immune system, improved sleep, increased self-esteem, and better heart function. Not Forgiving Yourself...is Actually Victimhood: Leigh highlights the significance of taking responsibility for our own lives, urging listeners to be the hero in their own story. Moving away from a victim mentality and blaming oneself or others only perpetuates negative thoughts and hinders personal growth. The Power of Perspective: Our brains are wired to scan for danger and often fixate on negative events. Leigh encourages us to break free from this pattern by shifting our focus towards positive events and experiences, which research show actually outnumber the negative ones about 3:1. Cultivating a positive perspective helps attract positive experiences into our lives. The Continuous Nature of Forgiveness: Leigh highlights that forgiveness is not a one-time event, but rather a journey that unfolds gradually. Our brains naturally bring back thoughts of the person we are trying to forgive, making it imperative to recognize forgiveness as an ongoing effort. Choosing forgiveness multiple times rather than making a single decision is an integral part of the process. Personal Choice and Intentionality: Forgiveness is a deeply personal decision. It requires intentional choice and an understanding that the process will be different for each individual. While motivations for forgiveness can be varied, the influence of loved ones encouraging us to let go or finding inspiration from spiritual practices like reading the Bible or listening to uplifting music can significantly impact our journey towards forgiveness. Speaking and Internalizing Forgiveness: Internalizing and speaking words of forgiveness play a crucial role in the forgiveness process. Speaking forgiveness helps individuals process and release negative emotions, leading to a sense of empowerment and emotional healing. Leigh's generous wisdom serves as a reminder of the transformative power of forgiveness. By embracing forgiveness as a continuous journey, making intentional choices, and prioritizing our mental wellness, we can experience personal growth, inner peace, and freedom. Whether motivated by the desire for healing, spiritual beliefs, or nurturing our relationships, forgiveness is a powerful tool that unlocks our true potential and paves the way for a brighter future. knows what it's like to be what he calls "passionately lost" and going nowhere fast. "I'll never forget the day that my parents walked out the doors of that facility, got in their car and drove off leaving me halfway across the country," Queen says. "It was the only program for at-risk youth that would even take me in...I was hopelessly stuck." As a teen, Jason had been labeled "oppositional defiant" and certainly "at-risk." But he experienced a breakthrough thanks to one teacher at that facility believing his future could be way better than where he was heading. "He didn't notice me for all my behavior problems, he noticed me for other reasons," Queen says. "When it felt like the whole world had given up on me, he believed in me. And honestly when I had given up on me, he believed in me. "One day he said, 'Jason, you're just a few choices away from a very different life.'" And through making those few better choices, a relationship with Jesus Christ, and a renewed focus on optimism, Jason's life completely turned around. "It wasn't religion, it wasn't church, it wasn't institutionalized anything," Queen says. "What it was was somebody who embodied the heart of Jesus...who consistently loved me with no strings attached...and it opened my heart to even the idea that maybe Jesus is worth following." So Jason has dedicated his life to impacting students, helping them to elevate their life! So many kids are struggling with anxiety, depression, stress, pressure, self worth and confidence. Using his story, and some of the principles that helped him along the way, Jason is a powerful speaker, encouraging students and teachers across the country, with the mission to reach one million students! Some of those students would be categorized as "passionately lost", just like he was. "That's why I get so frustrated when I see people put labels on those students. Because when I see those students, I see rising stars. When I see those students, I see hope," Queen says. "If you're a teacher struggling day-in and day-out with that student...you may be the one safe, consistent place in that student's life that may turn them around." But it's not just students and teachers, Jason lifts other adults too through his Elevate Your Life community. "Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world," Queen says. "Whatever it is, IT’S TIME TO DREAM, AND DREAM BIG!" Episode 2: Identity and Worthiness with Jeremy Baus
When you know whose you are, you'll know who you are. But so often, when we're struggling, we're struggling with that crazy big word "IDENTITY." Naturally, we identify ourselves by our failures. That's not how God wanted it. So we try to find our identity in our successes. That doesn't work either. So what does? John is joined by his incredible friend Jeremy Baus to look back on meeting in September of 2020, and going on a journey of identity, and finding out they are worthy. The Where You're Going Podcast is hosted by John Liddle. Keep up with the show at Email the show now at: Follow the show on:

Episode 1: Rock Bottom - John's Podcast Origin Story
Everybody's always asking us to "find our why." John's why is rather easy. He wants to do this podcast because he's been in those lowest of the low moments, thinking there was no hope and no way out of the pit. But his story of finding hope again is worth sharing so others know that where they're going is better! And God is so much more concerned with where you're going than where you've been! Episode 0: Our story's not over! / Pray for Hannah with Chris Mycoskie
We didn't plan to start the Where You're Going Podcast - but sometimes God has other plans. The Mycoskie family needs us to pray for them, and "Pray for Hannah." here's their story... "Our story's not over!" Cassie Mycoskie sobbed to her husband Chris as she was wheeled back into the hospital room in May of 2020. They had just lost their daughter, Grace, who was stillborn. It was the third time the Mycoskies, who live in Collin County, had lost a child. Their daughters Angel and Hope were lost to miscarriages. Their son, Austin, is seven years old, and longs to be a big brother. So a few years ago the Mycoskies decided to move into the adoption process. It's been long and hard. Filled with heartbreaking times where their hopes had been dashed at the last moment. Finally, on May 12, they got their match. The Mycoskies raced to Houston to meet their new baby girl, Hannah, who was three weeks old when she was put up for adoption. Chris says things were overwhelmingly joyful for the first 48 hours. Then medical forms started to trickle in. . Rare. Terminal. Hospice. Unimaginable pain. Hydranencephaly occurs when the brain does not get fully developed and fluid-filled sacs replace the brain tissue. As the child grows, the head swells with fluid. There is no cure. Life expectancy is typically less than a year. Because the birth mother didn't disclose the condition, the Mycoskies had the option to reverse the adoption process and "surrender" Hannah. The adoption agency told the Mycoskies about that option. Absolutely not. "I screamed at her. I had to go back and apologize later," Chris said. "But I was at the top of my lungs saying 'This is our daughter!' I was yelling, I was crying. There is no point in which we are going to 'surrender' her." The Mycoskies have never been about surrendering, unless you count surrendering their pain to a higher power. The simple message: "Pray for Hannah." They're not asking for money. There is no Go Fund Me. Just simple requests for prayer. "The moment that she came into our arms, she became part of our family," Chris says. "We're going to do everything possible to help her, to get her the best medical treatment possible, to make sure that she has the best life that she can. Even if it's a short one. And to love on her with every fiber of our being as long as we can." TIMESTAMPS: Overcoming Tragedy: "Our story is not over."— Chris Mycoskie Adoption Journey: "Adoption is something that Cassie and I have talked about since we were dating. My mom was adopted, so I always had that picture in my head as like some part of my family, we're going to adopt a child or children."— Chris Mycoskie The Challenges of Adoption: "You never know what it may be... all those times we weren't ultimately selected."— Chris Mycoskie Adoption Journey: "I'm going to give you about five minutes and I'm hitting the road, going to go pick up my wife and son and we're going to get to Houston in time for tomorrow morning."— Chris Mycoskie Emotional Announcement: "My wife and I have been pursuing adoption for nearly a year. Just got word that we have been matched."— Chris Mycoskie Praying for Adoption: "We had been praying for this baby for two years. And every night, pretty much when we put Austin to bed, our prayers included. Be with our son or daughter wherever they may be, be with their parents, help them to make good decisions, healthy decisions for the baby, and allow us to come together as a family soon."— Chris Mycoskie "Unraveled at that Point": "Our world just unraveled at that point."— Chris Mycoskie Adopting Against the Odds: "Hannah is our daughter. There is no question in my mind, and it has been verified to me, I don't know how many countless times, both in my prayers and from medical professionals vocalizing it, that she is meant to be in our family."— Chris Mycoskie Explaining a Rare Condition to a Child: "We broke it down into simple words and tried to explain what happened. And that we may not have Hannah with us for an extremely long period of time, but we fully believe that God has placed her in our family for a reason. And we're going to love her and show her God's love through all of this."— Chris Mycoskie Medicaid and Financial Stress: "We're also looking at the potential financial ramifications for our family, trying to get all of this figured out... Pray for us to figure that out because we're going to give Hannah every single thing that she needs and also want to make sure that we're still in a financial position to provide for everything that Austin needs. I want to make sure that this doesn't decimate our family financially. I hope I'm not coming back to you down the line saying that we need to go fund me and ask where you're going, listeners, to help us with that. I really hope that the Medicaid and other assistance ends up coming into place."— Chris Mycoskie PODCAST TOPICS: -Dealing with the stresses of having a newborn and a medical diagnosis -Concerns about the potential financial impact and hopes for assistance -Gratitude for the support and assistance from the medical team at Children's Medical Center in Dallas -Request for prayers for the medical team -Sharing the Mycoskies journey to starting a family, including previous miscarriages -The terrifying incident of Cassie (Chris' wife) losing blood and the stillbirth of their daughter Grace -The Mycoskies' commitment to providing the best for their child with a potentially life-threatening condition -Belief that the child was meant to be in their family -Overview of the adoption process and the speed at which the adoption placement happened in this case -The Mycoskies' lifelong consideration of adoption -Challenges in conceiving and decision to wait for their hearts to heal before pursuing adoption -Two-year adoption journey with the help of a consultant and a multi-agency approach -Explanation of Hannah's condition to their son and his emotional response -The family's hope for a miracle and prayers for Hannah -The belief that God is listening and working through this situation

Trailer #2 - All Our Hearts

Trailer #2 - All Our Hearts
At my church we have 10 values. One has been burning my heart lately: “WE DO EVERYTHING WITH ALL OUR HEART“ I don’t get this right all the time. I don’t think I get this right half the time, honestly. Let’s break this thing down just a bit. I’m picking out two key words: EVERYTHING and ALL. “EVERYTHING“ “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters” – Colossians 3:23 Here’s the deal. If I’m going to do EVERYTHING with all my heart (or “whatever” as Paul says here) I’d better be doing the right thing in the first place. I don’t want to overeat with all my heart, or speak poorly about someone with all my heart. Do you? No! I want to listen to someone with all of my heart. I want to lead my kids with everything I’ve got. SOMETIMES “EVERYTHING” IS HARD Think about those things that are just unavoidable that drain you: The client at work you can’t stop complaining about. The commute that’s an hour each way. Remember, Paul was actually talking to slaves in the verse above! They had it WAY worse than we do. Yet, he said to do the hard things with all your heart! I believe it’s to our benefit to lean in to those tough things. If that client is high-maintenence, double down on how you serve them. Let there be no hint of exasperation in your voice. Praise God that you have a chance to serve them. Make that hour commute a chance to learn, or catch up with a friend on the phone. Be grateful for that dedicated time where you can’t get wrapped up in exhausting multitasking. “ALL” “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.” – Mark 12:30-31 So we’re supposed to love God with all of it. Everything we’ve got. God is first. Our first love, because we’re His first love. And a big way we love God is by loving others. Loving others with everything we have. Selflessly and sacrificially. Putting others ahead of ourselves. Holding nothing back. BONUS: “HEART” But what do we do when we discover we are holding back? What do we do when we realize that despite what feels like our best efforts, the heart posture is just not there? This is what I’m wrestling with. And it’s ok to wrestle. It’s ok to step back and re-prioritize. Because I know I want to do everything with my whole heart. But I don’t want to freeze. So I’ll give myself a little while to figure out what my heart can do. Then I’ll fire my big heart up again and sprint after that new focus with all my heart. Because anything less than 100% just won’t bear good fruit.
