No, not just relief, recovery, comfort, healing, or sobriety. We're talking the F word here — freedom — Happiness and well-being on autopilot. My team and I will share straight from the trenches what we've learned from using a non-therapy, body-based approach to leave our own struggles behind while also coaching thousands of others to do the same. We have often had people who have a single belief of who and what they are. It’s not that they’re wrong for that, it that they had never tried to challenge it before. People who were “superior” to them had given diagnosis and those were taken to heart. Today we’ll talk about it more. Have a listen. Highlights: A lot of people we encounter had their mom, their teacher, their mentor tell them something and that’s never been challenged. (13:10) Internally, I don’t want to put the keys in the lock that are almost a fit, but to a perfect fit. I’d rather make them on the inside. (19:20) Medical doctors aren’t always right and I think they would appreciate if we said; I don’t think that’s accurate and here’s why. And together you could figure out a solution. This one’s for the women. A man’s “addiction” to pornography doesn’t mean that there is something wrong with you or that you need to change. It is just the way that his body has found to cope with his discomfort. We’re going to talk about this more today. Have a listen. (15:50) Depression, shame, and guilt are all mechanisms that are engaged in order to solve an ongoing problem. If you’re going to get help with something, at least get good help. Ruminating on the problem won’t solve it, so find someone or something that looks at the source, not the symptom. Therapy is not really as useful as it seems. In reality, therapy gets you to just ruminate on thoughts and situations that are no longer useful to you. Instead of spending time pouting about it, learn from it and move on. Today, we’re going to talk about that more. Have a listen. Highlights: When going to some form of entertainment, the emotional controls are almost willfully set aside for the enjoyment of another story. (6:05) No doubt, teenagers all over the planet have these hormonal things that show up, and have situations that they have emotions about. But it’s being blown out of proportion to where everybody is being taught, everybody will have emotions that are too big for them and these tools are needed. Instead of; there might be an emotion from time to time, no big deal. (10:40) There becomes such a focus on the problem that it becomes overwhelming and it can seem like there’s no hope. Today we’re going to do a little bit of a play by play of a book that I recently read. But as we talk, find what’s useful, and keep it. then toss the rest out. Have a listen. Highlights: There are humans so busy suffering and chasing power, money, prestige and all the other things that they end up killing each other for it. (3:05) I was making all kinds of claims, but I found a lot of frustration in that that I wasn’t willing to admit. When something wasn’t working I’d turn it on, and judge myself more poorly because what I assumed was the truth wasn’t. (7:15) Continue to look and hear with your eyes and ears, find what’s valuable and toss the rest. (35:15) If the body is in a negative state then negative thoughts will emerge. Proprioception
Proprioception can be often thought of how you perceive your physical situation, but it goes a lot deeper than that. It is how you perceive yourself in any situation. Proprioception is how you catch yourself in the act of living. We’re going to talk about this in depth today. Have a listen. Highlights: The prediction is made first, and only if the prediction is wrong, is more energy spent trying to figure out what’s going on. (6:00) We end up limiting our future by never challenging the predictions of the past. (21:45) If a reaction to something was less than it was before, and if it stays that way over the course of a day or two, the brain is now making different guesses about the idea that has been adopted. The breath has been studied many times over for years. All the little tips and tricks can help understand the breath. But mastering it comes for paying attention to how it feels to you. Highlights: People tend to try to master breathing by only thinking about breathing in certain regards or certain breathing practices instead of understanding the nature and depth of what breath really is. Biology Over Psychology
Not everything is purely psychological. The biology of a person has a lot to do with their emotions, their thoughts and their moods. So, connection the biology to the psychology can be a key experience to letting go of trauma and addiction. Highlights: I’m taking my years and years of experience understanding how the mind and body are intertwined, to bring the mind and the body together too un-stitch all of the quilted patterns of misery that people have stitched to themselves over the course of their lives. (12:50) There’s nothing wrong with allowing breath work to happen, but why not let it happen on purpose? Why not be deliberate with how you use the breath? Recovery shouldn’t take forever. There’s no reason for you to be an addict, or a recovering addict, for a majority of your life. Today we’re gonna talk about that a little more. Have a listen. An Immense World
We live in such an immense world. The belief that humans are a superior race and are built to rule all is not true just because we’ve invaded everything. Today we’ll talk more about what’s going on in not our world, and what we’re missing. Have a listen. Highlights: We are so dependent on our eyes, We are so dependent on our eyes because they are the most delicate of our senses. (4:00) Across the board, humans aren’t really doing much difference, except in terms of quality. (13:20) There is something that we’re calling life that is massively varied, all of which is experiencing itself in a variety of ways that we humans can’t even understand and yet we have the hubris to believe that we are the reason for all of it and that we are more important and better than the rest of it when there’s so many places where we fall short and so many things we do not see. (15:30) There’s so much that we don’t understand about reality, so much that we are missing because our senses are set up to help our species survive the way that this species does. Today, we’re going to think about what’s really going on when you tell somebody that your day was good, or when you feel sad. Although it might seem like just a simple feeling, there’s more to it than that. Have a listen. With all the clamoring voices declaring the latest health fads and superfoods, so many of which seem to be in contradiction to each other, how is one to know what to do? Do we follow the simple advice of Michael Pollan (Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants.)? Or do we micro measure every morsel for optimum productivity and neurological function? Lots to discuss, and, as always, with an eye to making things simpler. Have a listen. Highlights: Nowadays you can walk into almost anywhere and see the teenagers have all the signs of being youthful, but there’s something off with their physique. (5:50) There are a lot of experts today that claim to know what health is. But when I step back and look at it, it just seems to be that what we’re claiming health is, is really distorted. (9:25) People define freedom as the ability to do whatever you want to do, but I’ve suggested the following definition; that freedom is the ability to not do what you don’t want to do. (21:29) It doesn’t have so much to do with your genetics, but the way you learned to eat. So if you change the way you eat, you can actually change what the outcomes are.
