- One of the newest attractions at Walt Disney World’s EPCOT is Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana. Join us as we walk through this attraction for the first time on this episode of Attraction Checklist. Attraction audio recorded on June 2, 2024. TRANSCRIPT: Welcome to Attraction Checklist. This episode we head to Epcot to experience Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana. The Walt Disney World website describes this attraction by saying: Explore the wonders of water along a lush trail that’s fun for all ages—based on the Disney animated film Moana. There are no age or height requirements for this walk through attraction. Before we play with water, here are five fast facts about Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana. 1. Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana, was originally slated to open in 2021 as part of Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary. The opening was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the attraction officially opened on October 16, 2023. 2. Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana is located in the World Nature neighborhood of Epcot near The Seas with Nemo and Friends. 3. Guests can take two paths as they explore Journey of Water. Those who’d prefer not to get wet can take the dry path while those interested in interacting with the water can take the wet path. 4. Journey of Water keeps the original spirit of EPCOT alive as it teaches guests about the global water cycle and follows the journey of water from the sky to the sea and back again. 5. Several characters from the film Moana are hidden throughout the attraction, both on land and in the water. The centerpiece of the attraction is not hidden at all and that is the 15 foot high sculpture of Te Fiti which is comprised of over 3000 pieces of foliage. - It’s time to set sail on a journey around the Rivers of America aboard Disneyland’s Sailing Ship Columbia on this episode of Attraction Checklist! Attraction audio recorded on September 30, 2023. TRANSCRIPT: Welcome to Attraction Checklist. This episode we head to Frontierland in Disneyland to ride Sailing Ship Columbia. The Disneyland website describes this attraction saying: Sail into the wilderness aboard a full-scale replica of a majestic ship from the 18th century. There are no age or height requirements for this attraction and the Thrill Level describes it as being a Slow Water Ride that can get Loud. Before we embark on our journey, here are five fast facts about the Sailing Ship Columbia. 1. The Sailing Ship Columbia opened at Disneyland park on June 14, 1958. 2. The story goes that in the early days of Disneyland, Walt Disney wanted more traffic on the Rivers of America. He asked Joe Fowler to come up with an idea for a new ship and, after research, Fowler suggested the Columbia Rediviva - The first American vessel to circumnavigate the globe. 3. The original designs for the ship were sketched out on a napkin by Ray Wallace. The masts, rigging, spars and sails of the Columbia were constructed at Todd Shipyards, Los Angeles Division, San Pedro, CA 4. The Columbia can hold up to 300 guests on each 12 minute trip around Tom Sawyer’s Island. 5. The Columbia has a starring role in the nighttime spectacular Fantastic! Serving as Captain Hook’s ship, the Jolly Roger, in the original and current incarnations of the show and as The Black Pearl from Pirates of the Caribbean in the version that ran from 2017 to 2023. - Test Track 2.0 is now gone, but let’s head to EPCOT in Walt Disney World and ride it one last time on this episode of Attraction Checklist. Attraction audio recorded on June 6, 2024. TRANSCRIPT: Welcome to Attraction Checklist. This episode we visit EPCOT to ride Test Track The Walt Disney World website describes this attraction by saying: Design a virtual concept car and put it to the test on this thrilling, high-octane attraction. Guests must be 40” or taller to ride and the Thrill Level describes the ride as being a Thrill Ride with Small Drops. Before we hop in a SIM Car, here are five fast facts about Test Track. 1. Test Track officially opened at EPCOT on March 17, 1999. The attraction replaced the original Epcot attraction World of Motion. 2. The version of the attraction we are hearing on this episode is known as Test Track 2.0. This version of the attraction opened on December 6, 2012. This version let riders design their perfect test car and then see how well that card did on the attraction. 3. Test Track vehicles can reach speeds of up to 64.9 mph or 104.4km/h. 4. The music for Test Track 2.0 was composed by Paul Leonard-Morgan who has composed music for television, film and video games. 5. On June 17, 2024, Test Track 2.0 closed to make way for Test Track 3.0 which Disney has said will be inspired by the original World of Motion attraction. Let’s go ride Test Track 2.0 one last time. Now I will say it was really difficult to get a good quality recording of this attraction. The first time I rode it John B. deHaas was with me but the people in the car with us were so noisy and vulgar, we pretty much decided that that audio couldn’t be released publicly. But forgetting about that, here now is Test Track 2.0 and afterwards I’ll give you my thoughts on this attraction. Riders must be 35” or taller to ride this attraction and the Thrill level describes it as being a Thrill Ride with Small Drops. Before we climb that tinker toy lift hill, here are 5 fat facts about Chip ’n’ Dale’s GADGETcoaster. 1. Chip ’n’ Dale’s GADGETcoaster officially opened with the rest of Mickey’s Toontown on January 24, 1993. On opening day, the ride was called Gadget’s Go Coaster. 2. Having only a 44 second duration, this roller coaster is the shortest attraction in Disneyland. 3. Chip ’n’ Dale’s GADGETcoaster reaches heights of 27.9ft (8.5 meters) and soars up to speeds of 21.7 mph (34.9 km/h) 4. The character of Gadget, you greets you as you travel up the lift hill, is voiced by Tress MacNeille. 5. The ride was closed for refurbishment in 2022 and when it reopened in March of 2023 it had a new name and new figures of Chip, Dale and Zipper from the show Chip ’n’ Dale’s Rescue Rangers. The Disneyland website describes this attraction saying: Ride the historic, high-speed zero-emission transportation system that rockets along a single rail through the Disneyland Resort. There are no age or height requirements for this attraction. Before we ride, here are five fast facts about Disneyland’s Monorail. 1. The Disneyland Monorail opened on June 14, 1959. When it opened it was called the Disneyland Alweg Monorail System. Alweg being the German company that helped Walt Disney and Bob Gurr build the attraction. 2. The Disneyland Monorail fleet is currently made up of the Red, Blue and Orange Mark VII trains. The recording for this episode was made on Monorail Blue. 3. The Monorail system uses a 600-volt DC power source and as such, it emits no direct exhaust or pollutants into the atmosphere. 4. Each Monorail train can accommodate approximately 120 guests. 5. There is approximately 2.5 miles or 4 kilometers of Monorail track at Disneyland. Let’s hop aboard Monorail Blue for a round trip ride to Downtown Disney and back. Before we stake out our spot in front of It’s A Small World, here are five fast facts about Magic Happens at Disneyland. 1. Magic Happens debuted on February 27, 2020 as part of Disneyland’s 65th Anniversary celebration. 2. Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the parade was shelved until February 26, 2023 when it returned with with a newly updated version. 3. The parade was directed by David Duffy and Jordan Peterson and features songs written and co-composed by Todrick Hall. 4. The song Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah from Song of the South was part of the parade when it debuted in 2020 but was replaced by You Can Fly from Peter Pan when the parade returned in 2023. 5. - For a short time Disney’s Animal Kingdom at Walt Disney World had a daytime show called Disney’s KiteTales. We take a look at this now defunct show on this episode of Attraction Checklist. Attraction audio recorded on July 17, 2022. TRANSCRIPT: Welcome to Attraction Checklist. This episode we go back in time to Disney’s Animal Kingdom at Walt Disney World to experience the show Disney’s KiteTales. There were no age or height requirements for this attraction and the show was described by saying, “Hearts and imaginations will soar as incredible kites and windcatchers dance through the air to the beat of beloved Disney songs during this high-flying performance at Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park.” Before we watch the kites take to the sky, here are 5 fast facts about Disney’s KiteTales. 1. Disney KiteTales debuted at the Discovery River Theater in Animal Kingdom on October 1, 2021. 2. Performances of Disney’s KiteTales happened several times a day and alternated between a few different shows. One show was focused round The Jungle Book and features songs such as The Bare Necessities, Colonel Hathi’s March and I wanna be Like You. 3. The second show, the show featured in this episode’s recording, was centered around The Lion King and featured songs like I Just Can’t Wait To Be King, Hakuna Matata and Circle of Life. As the shows went on and popularity of the show waned, songs were cut from both shows. 4. The show employed six jet-skis that pulled 30 foot long kites around the lagoon during the show while performers with smaller kites performed around the water’s edge. 5. Disney’s KiteTales had its final performance on September 30, 2022. Let’s go pay tribute to the long gone Disney’s KiteTales. After the attraction audio, I’ll give you my thoughts on this attraction. - It’s time to see what changes were made to Disneyland’s Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin on this episode of Attraction Checklist. Attraction audio recorded on July 31, 2023. TRANSCRIPT: Welcome to Attraction Checklist. This episode takes us to Toontown in Disneyland to see the updated Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin. We covered this attraction back in episode 82 of Attraction Checklist but here are a few more fast facts about the recent updates. 1. In December of 2021, several changes were made to the attraction, the main one being the addition of a storyline featuring Jessica Rabbit. In the previous incarnation of the ride she was seen as more of a damsel in distress in the opening scene. The update finds her in charge, helping stop the Weasels in her new bright yellow trench coat and fedora. 2. When Toontown closed for the addition of Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin got a refurbishment with some polish and effect tweaks. The updated version opened on March 19, 2023. Now let’s go ride the updated Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin. - Let’s head to Toontown in Disneyland to check out the west coast version of Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway. Attraction audio recorded on July 31, 2023. TRANSCRIPT: Welcome to Attraction Checklist. This episode we are visiting the newly reimagined Toontown at Disneyland to ride Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway. There are no age or height requirements for this attraction and the Disneyland website describes it by saying, “Zoom off on a wild and wacky adventure through Mickey and Minnie’s madcap cartoon world.” The Thrill Level describes this attraction as being Dark, Loud and Slow. Before we present our tickets at the El CapiTOON Theater, here are 5 fast facts about Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway. 1. On April 19, 2019, Disney announced that Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway would open at Disneyland Park in 2022. Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway officially opened at Disneyland on January 27, 2023. 2. Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway is a copy of the attraction of the same name at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World, but the queue are is different. At Disneyland guests enter the attraction through the El CapiTOON Theater in Toontown. On display is a collection of “props” from Mickey Mouse cartoons called “Mickey Through The Ears.” 3. The popcorn seen in the queue’s faux concession stand is shaped like Mickey, Minnie & Donald. 4. Minnie Mouse’s voice actor Russi Taylor passed away after recording her lines for this attraction. The song Nothing Can Stop Us Now, featured in the attraction, was dedicated to her memory. 5. During the construction of Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway, Toontoown at Disneyland got a refresh including new faux hills that line the back of all the buildings of Toontown. - Let’s see what entertainment Main Street USA at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom has to offer as we experience Mickey’s Celebration Cavalcade and a performance by The Dapper Dans on this episode of Attraction Checklist. Attraction audio recorded on July 15, 2022. TRANSCRIPT: Welcome to Attraction Checklist. This episode we experience two Magic Kingdom Main Street USA Attractions: Mickey’s Celebration Cavalcade and The Dapper Dans. Mickey’s Celebration Cavalcade is lazily described in the guide map by saying: Favorite Disney pals march along the parade route throughout the day. The Dapper Dans are not mentioned in the guide maps that I’ve seen but are described on the Disney World Website by saying: This lively barbershop quartet sings in harmony, tap dances in time and charms audiences with vaudeville humor. Both of these attractions are listed as being for all ages. Before we stake out our spot on Main Street, here are five fast facts about Mickey’s Celebration Cavalcade and The Dapper Dans. 1. Mickey’s Celebration Cavalcade is a short pop up parade that debuted for Walt Disney World’s 50th Celebration. It ran several times daily through March 2023 when it ended its run. 2. Mickey’s Celebration Cavalcade features appearances by Mini Mouse, Goofy, Donald and Daisy, Pluto, Chip and Dale and, of course, Mickey Mouse. 3. The Dapper Dans have been performing on Main Street USA at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom since the park’s opening in 1971. 4. The bell like instruments played by The Dapper Dans are called Deagen Organ Chimes. 5. During the holidays season, The Dapper Dans will add Christmas songs to their repertoire. And during Halloween events they are rebranded as The Cadaver Dans and sing a selection of spooky tunes. Let’s now head to Main Street to check out not one, but two attractions. - Join me as I head to EPCOT to see for the first time and bid farewell to the nighttime spectacular Harmonious on this episode of Attraction Checklist. Attraction audio recorded on February 25, 2023. TRANSCRIPT: Welcome to Attraction Checklist. This episode we experience EPCOT’s current (as of this recording in March of 2023) nighttime spectacular Harmonious. There are no age or height requirements for Harmonious and the guide map describes it by saying, “Discover how Disney music and stories have the power to bring people from all around the world together to unlock the magic of possibility.” There is no thrill level listed for this attraction. Before we head to World Showcase Lagoon, here are 5 more fast facts about Harmonious. 1. Harmonious was announced at the D23 Destination D event in 2018. It was set to replace EPCOT Forever in 2020 but was delayed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. After a few test performances, Harmonious officially debuted on October 1, 2021. The show replaced Epcot Forever which we covered on episode 94 of this podcast. 2. The show make use of pyrotechnics, choreographed water fountains, lasers, searchlights, floating set pieces and LED screens 3. The show’s barges are collectively known as The Compass. The four arc-shaped barges are named after the nearest intersecting World Showcase pavilion. They are Mexico, Germany, Canada and France. The center platform holds a six story tall ring that houses a high pressure water curtain for show projections. 4. An album featuring the show’s soundtrack was released by Walt Disney Records on October 29, 2021. 5. On September 11, 2022, Disney announced that Harmonious would have it’s last performance on April 2, 2023, to be replaced by the returning Epcot Forever. Let’s check out Harmonious at EPCOT. This recording captures the first (and last) time I’ll be seeing the show so I’ll give you my thoughts afterwards. Attraction audio recorded on February 23, 2023. TRANSCRIPT: Welcome to Attraction Checklist. This episode we visit Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World to preview TRON Lightcyle / Run. This attraction is not listed in the Magic Kingdom guidemap at the time of this recording but the Walt Disney World Website describes it by saying, “Speed across a world with no horizons in a high-stakes race based on the Disney sci-fi film TRON: Legacy.” Guests must be 48 inches or taller in order to ride and the Thrill Level describes the attraction as being a Thrill Ride in the Dark with Big Drops. Before we join Team Blue for our run, here are five fast facts about TRON Lightcycle / Run. 1. Tron Lightcycle / Run is a copy of an attraction located in Shanghai Disneyland where it’s called Tron Lightcycle Power Run. The Shanghai version of the attraction opened on June 16, 2016. On July 15, 2017, Disney announced that Magic Kingdom would be getting its own version of the ride. Originally scheduled to open in time for Walt Disney World’s 50th Anniversary, the opening was pushed back due to the COVID 19 Pandemic. The ride is schedule to officially open on April 4, 2023. 2. The attraction features a track that is 3,169 ft (or 966 meters) long and has a peak height of 78.1 ft (or 23.8 meters) 3. The attraction reaches speeds of nearly 60 miles per hour, the fastest for any Disney Roller Coaster. 4. The attraction features 7 trains with 7 cars per train. While most of the seats on the attraction feature the lightcycle seating, a few of the trains have regular roller coaster seats in the back with a traditional lap bar for those who don’t want the bike experience. 5. According to WIkiPedia, the music heard on the attraction was created by Joseph Trapanese and Daft Punk. Let’s ride TRON Lightcycle / Run. There are no age or height requirements for this attraction and the guide map describes the ride saying, “Ride this mass transit system of the future.” The thrill level describes the PeopleMover attraction as a slow ride. We covered the PeopleMover way back in episode 26, but here are 5 more fast facts about the ride. 1. When we originally covered the ride back in 2017, it was sponsored by Alamo. The ride is now listed as being Presented by Enterprise. 2. On July 1, 2022, the ride received a brand new Narration track, replacing the previous narration done by Mike Brassell. 3. If you listen closely, the new Narration features several tributes to past Tomorrowland attractions including If You Had WIngs, The Time Keeper and the 1975 version of The Carousel of Progress. 4. The three note chime that proceeds announcements during the ride has returned. It hadn’t been heard since 2009. 5. While the tree looks very real, it is actually made up of steel, concrete and stucco. 5. We’re headed to Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World to ride Pete Pan’s Flight on this episode of Attraction Checklist! Attraction audio recorded on July 15, 2022. TRANSCRIPT: Welcome to Attraction Checklist. This episode we ride Peter Pan’s Flight at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom. There are no age or height requirements for this attraction and the guide map describes the ride saying, “Fly with Peter Pan aboard a magical ship.” The thrill level describes Peter Pan’s Flight as a slow ride with small drops. Before we visit Never Land, here are five fast facts about Peter Pan’s Flight at Magic Kingdom. 1. Peter Pan’s Flight opened at Magic Kingdom on October 3, 1971, two days after the park opened. 2. When Peter Pan’s Flight opened at Magic Kingdom it followed a similar design as Peter Pan’s Flight at Disneyland in California, even reusing some of the same sounds from that attraction. The Magic Kingdom version featured added scenes and used Audio-Animatronic figures. (As a note: we rode and reviewed Peter Pan’s Flight at Disneyland in episode 85 of Attraction Checklist. 3. Captain Hook’s pirate ship in this attraction is a whopping 48 feet long. 4. In 2014, the ride’s queue area was upgraded to make is seem you are walking through the Darling’s Nursery. The queue now features interactive elements and appearances by Tinker Bell. 5. As you fly through the Nursery at the beginning of the ride, keep an eye out for a pile of children’s block that spell out: Disney. Let’s ride Peter Pan’s Flight! TRANSCRIPT: Welcome to Attraction Checklist. This episode we visit Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World to check out the latest updates to The Hall of Presidents. The guide map describes this attraction saying, “Behold all the U.S. Presidents on stage together.” There are no age or height requirements for this attraction and there is no Thrill Level notes. Now, The Hall of Presidents is the one attraction at Magic Kingdom that you can count on to get updated every 4 to 8 years. This is the third time we’ve visited it on this Attraction Checklist so we may not have 5 fast facts, but here are a few fast facts about the latest version of this attraction. In January 19 2021, The Hall of Presidents was closed for refurbishment. On July 19, 2021, Disney announced that President Joe Biden would be added to the attraction and the attraction itself reopened on August 3, 2021. The film The Idea of a President that had debuted in the previous version of the attraction, remained. Keeping with tradition, President Joe Biden voiced his animatronic figure but in a departure from previous versions, the President Biden figure only recites the Oath of Office and does not give a follow up speech. TRANSCRIPT: Welcome to Attraction Checklist. This episode we visit Disney’s Hollywood Studios to ride Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway! There are no age or height requirements for this attraction and the guide map describes the ride saying, “Burst into a cartoon world with Mickey and Minnie on a wacky train trip.” Before we head off to the big premiere, here are five fast facts about Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway 1. Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway was first announced at D23 in July 2017. The attraction opened at Disney’s Hollywood Studios on March 4, 2020, replacing the iconic The Great Movie Ride Attraction. 2. This trackless attraction features a new technology known as 2 and 1/2 D or 3D without glasses to give depth to the 2D environments. 3. The 1401 Flower Show seen during the attraction is a tribute to the home of Walt Disney Imagineering which is located at 1401 Flower Street in Glendale, CA. 4. The attraction features several sound effects created by Disney Legend Jimmy MacDonald for Disney animated shorts dating back to the 1930s; some new effects were developed using Macdonald’s original equipment. 5. Though this attraction replaced the beloved The Great Movie Ride attraction, there is a tribute to what came before in a Great Moving Ride poster during the theme park section of the ride. - It’s time to rewind time as we ride Epcot’s newest attraction Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, not once but twice on this episode of Attraction Checklist. Attraction audio recorded on July 13, 2022. TRANSCRIPT: Welcome to Attraction Checklist. We are super excited because we are finally bringing you one of the most requested Attraction Checklist episode of the year, a look at Epcot’s new Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. The guide map describes this attraction saying, “Team up with the Guardians of the Galaxy on an intergalactic race through space and time.” Guests must be 42” or wallet to ride and the thrill level describes the attraction as being a Thrill Ride in the Dark. Before we head off to the Galaxarium, here are five fast facts about Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. 1. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind officially opened at Epcot on May 27, 2022. 2. The attraction is build on the site of the former Ellen’s Energy Adventure attraction which we covered on Episode 31 of this show. That ride was built in the former Universe of Energy show building and that show building was reused and retrofitted for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind thought the bulk of the attraction is housed in a giant blue show building behind the Universe of Energy building. 3. Much like Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout at Disney California Adventure which we covered in episode 32 of Attraction Checklist, guests riding Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, guests hear one of six different songs. The possible songs are "September" by Earth, Wind and Fire, “Disco Inferno" by the Trammps, “Everybody Wants to Rule the World" by Tears for Fears”, One Way or Another" by Blondie, “I Ran (So Far Away)" by A Flock of Seagulls and “Conga" by Gloria Estefan 4. Composer Tyler Bates, who scored the Guardians of the Galaxy films created more than two hours on new music for the attraction and he even put in a little nod to the original Universe of Energy song. 5. On June 23, 2022, it was announced that Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind would receive a Christmas Overlay with a mash-up of seasonal songs. Let’s go save the planet with the Guardians of the Galaxy. There are no age or height requirements for this attraction and the guide map describes the ride saying, “Join Remy on a 3D ride through the culinary world of Ratatouille.” Before we shrink down to the size of a mouse, here are 5 fast facts about Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure. 1. Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure officially opened at Epcot on October 1, 2021. 2. Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure features a trackless ride system that uses Wifi and RFID to know the exact position of each car on in the attraction. 3. The ride has 36 Rat shaped ride vehicles that can take over 2000 guests through the ride per hour. 4. Composer Michael Giacchino who composed the music for the film Ratatouille also produced the music for this attraction. 5. Eagle eyed riders can spot the classic Toy Story Pizza Planet truck’s silhouette in one of the windows at the very beginning of the ride. Let’s go ride Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure! TRANSCRIPT: Welcome to Attraction Checklist. Let’s head to Fantasyland in Disneyland to visit Mad Tea Party. The Disneyland Resort website describes this attraction saying: Pour yourself into an oversized teacup and spin through a whimsical party. There are no age or height requirements for this attraction and the thrill level describes this attraction as being a Spinning Ride. Before we spill the tea, here are five fast facts about Mad Tea Party. 1. The original Mad Tea Party opened with Disneyland on July 17, 1955. This version was located directly behind King Arthur’s Carousel. In 1983, the attraction was moved to its current location near the Alice In Wonderland attraction. 2. The original Mad Tea Party that opened with the parks had tea cups that featured no brakes or clutches nothing that limited how fast they spun. 3. In 2004, the amount of spin each tea cup had was limited after a guest experience a serious fall on the attraction. The limitation was later restored after guests complained. 4. For Disneyland’s 50th Anniversary, one the other teacups on the attraction was painted gold. 5. The designs on the tea cups were designed by Disney Legend Mary Blair. TRANSCRIPT: Welcome to Attraction Checklist. This episode Check out one of Disneyland’s most unique attractions, Sleeping Beauty Castle Walkthrough. The Disneyland Resort website describes this attraction saying, “Gaze at Sleeping Beauty Castle and venture inside to relive scenes from the beloved Disney classic.” There are no age or height requirements for this attraction and the Thrill Level describes it as a being Dark. Before we confront Maleficent, here are five fast facts about Sleeping Beauty Castle Walkthrough. 1. The Sleeping Beauty Castle Walkthrough officially opened on April 29, 1957. 2. The original dioramas featured in the walkthrough were designed in the style of Eyvind Earle, production designer for the 1959 Disney film Sleeping Beauty. 3. The walkthrough was redone in 1977 to make the dioramas look more like the popular windows on Main Street. This installation closed in 2001 and reopened seven years later with the experience going under a major refurbishment. The dioramas to their original style with added projection effects. This new version opened November 27, 2008. 4. For guests who are unable to climb the stairs of the attraction, there is a virtual experience on the ground level near the attraction’s exit. 5. It’s time to head out on our own real life safari adventure as we visit Disney’s Animal Kingdom to ride Kilimanjaro Safaris on this episode of Attraction Checklist. Attraction audio recorded on October 27, 2016. TRANSCRIPT: Welcome to Attraction Checklist. This episode we venture to Disney’s Animal Kingdom to ride the ever popular, Kilimanjaro Safaris. The Animal Kingdom guide map describes this attraction saying, “Take a safari ride through the lush African savannah to search for lions, elephants, giraffes and more.” There are no age or height requirements for this attraction and the Thrill Level describes it as a Slow Ride. Before we board our jeep, here are five fast facts about Kilimanjaro Safaris. 1. Kilimanjaro Safaris opened with Animal Kingdom on April 22, 1998. 2. For many years the ride featured a scripted storyline about poachers hunting a mother and baby elephant. In early cast previews, an animatronic of the slaughtered mother elephant was visible at the end of the attraction to drive home how harmful poachers are. This animatronic was removed before the park opened as the scene received many complaints. 3. The ride features close to thirty different species of animals, including crocodiles, warthogs, flamingos, giraffes and lions. 4. The flamingo island seen during the attraction is a giant hidden Mickey. 5. Between each of the animal’s ecosystems are chains and bars that prevent the animals from venturing between sections. 132 - Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln - Disneyland - Attraction Checklist
- It’s time to hear some words of inspiration as we head to Disneyland to watch Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln on this episode of Attraction Checklist. Attraction audio recorded on March 8, 2022. TRANSCRIPT: Welcome to Attraction Checklist. This episode we visit Main Street U.S.A. at Disneyland to watch Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln. The Disneyland Resort website describes this attraction saying: Revel in the stirring oratory of Abraham Lincoln—delivered in person—and explore rare Disneyland memorabilia. There are no age or height requirements for this attraction and the thrill level describes this attraction as being Dark. Before we blast off, here are five fast facts about Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln. 1. Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln has its origins in the 1964 New York World’s Fair where the show was the prime feature of the State of Illinois Pavilion. A year later the show debuted at Disneyland on July 18, 1965. Over there years there have been some show tweaks and name changes and now Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln is an element of the broader Disney Attraction The Disneyland Story presenting Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln which debuted on December 18, 2009. 2. As you’ll hear in the pre-show, Lincoln is voiced by actor Royal Dano. The recording in the current version of the show includes portions of the original World’s Fair version of the show but made from, then, newly discovered recordings of Dano’s performance. 3. The model of the Capitol Building in the lobby of Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln took 3 years to carve from stone. 4. The present day version of this attraction shares some similarities with Epcot’s American Adventure. Not only are the songs Two Brothers and Golden Dream featured in the show, the 12 Spirits of America featured in The American Adventure can bee seen in the Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln lobby area. 5. While the Lincoln audio-animatronic has always been state of the art, in 2009 it made the jump from hydraulics to electronic giving it more of a range of motion. Laugh Floor at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom. The Magic Kingdom guide map describes the attraction saying: Discover the power of laughter in this live comedy show with audience participation. There are no age or height requirements for this attraction and there’s no thrill level listed either. Before we take our seats, here are five fast facts about Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor. 1. Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor opened at Magic Kingdom on April 2, 2007, where it replaced the Circle-Vision attraction, The Timekeeper. 2. The Laugh Floor theater holds up to 400 guests per show. 3. Billy Crystal returned to provide the voice of Mike Wazowski for this attraction. 4. If you are lucky enough to be selected as ‘That Guy’ during the performance, a Disney Castmember will give you an ‘I Was That Guy’ sticker at the end of the show. 5. In the past, Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor has received holiday overlays at Halloween and Christmas. - Let’s pilot a rocket ship at the entrance to Tomorrowland at Disneyland park! We ride the Astro Orbiter on this episode of Attraction Checklist. Attraction audio recorded on May 18, 2021. TRANSCRIPT: This episode finds us in Tomorrowland at Disneyland to ride the Astro Orbiter. The Disneyland Resort website describes this attraction saying: Pilot your very own rocket ship high in the sky amid a gleaming constellation of orbiting planets. There are no age or height requirements for this attraction and the thrill level describes this attraction as a Spinning ride. Before we blast off, here are five fast facts about Disneyland’s Astro Orbiter! 1. Disneyland has had some form of the Astro Orbiter since 1956. The original attraction was known as the Astro Jets. In 1964 it was renamed the Tomorrowland Jets. That version closed in 1966 and returned a year later as The Rocket Jets, located high above Tomorrowland. The Rocket Jets closed in 1997 and the current version, the Astro Orbiter found its home at the front entrance of Tomorrowland on May 22, 1998. 2. When the attraction changed its name in 1964, it was because the ride’s sponsor, United Airlines, complaining that the name Astro Jets was free advertising for American Airlines’ Astrojet flight service. 3. The Astro Orbiter features 12 rockethsips that hold two riders per vehicle. 4. Astro Orbiter rockets travel at a speed of 11 rotations per minute and travel an average of 1.2 Million Miles per year. 5. A ride on the Astro Orbiter lasts a brief one minute and thirty seconds.
