Episode 539: 28 Years Later (NO Spoilers!), 28 Days Later, 28 Weeks Later, Elio, Movie News LIVE!
We've got more zombies than you can shake a stick at this week on Breakfast All Day. First off, we review "28 Years Later," the long-awaited reunion of Danny Boyle and Alex Garland in a Britain plagued by rage virus. This is a non-spoiler review, but we're doing a live spoiler chat at our YouTube channel on Wednesday, June 25 at Noon Pacific, so check back with us then and share your thoughts. In theaters now. Then we catch up with the two films that preceded it: "28 Days Later" (2002) and "28 Weeks Later" (2007). We realized in retrospect that you don't need to have seen either of these movies to get into the new one, but we were glad to have the conversations. If you're looking for something a little more lighthearted for the whole family, there's "Elio," the latest animated adventure from Disney Pixar. It's a sweet, gentle film for these stressful times about a misfit kid who dreams of having aliens abduct him. This is minor Pixar, but it's beautiful. In theaters. Finally, we wrap up with a lengthy Movie News LIVE! Among the topics we discuss are the "Jaws" 50th anniversary, the "Brokeback Mountain" 20th anniversary, the trailer for the new Bruce Springsteen biopic "Deliver Me From Nowhere," and Francis Ford Coppola taking "Megalopolis" on the road. Episode 538: Materialists, How to Train Your Dragon (2025) With William Bibbiani, Rogue One (2016) Rewatch
It's a mixed bag of summer movies with a special guest stopping by on the latest episode of Breakfast All Day. We begin with a review of "Materialists," Celine Song's follow-up to her Oscar-nominated 2023 drama "Past Lives." Dakota Johnson plays a New York City matchmaker who must choose between Chris Evans and Pedro Pascal. It's the eternal conundrum. In theaters. Then our good friend William Bibbiani drops in to help out with a review of "How to Train Your Dragon." If you've seen the beloved animated original, you've seen this live-action remake. Mason Thames, Nico Parker and Gerard Butler co-star. In theaters now. And we wrap up with a re-watch of "Rogue One," the 2016 "Star Wars" movie about the mission to steal the Death Star plans. Now that the phenomenal prequel series "Andor" has finished, we wanted to see how this film plays with fresh perspective. Have you seen "Rogue One" lately? Let us know your thoughts. No news this week, but we hope to catch up with you next Friday. Have a great weekend, and if you're going to a No Kings protest on Saturday, stay safe! Episode 537: Ballerina, The Life of Chuck, Mountainhead, Dogma (1999), Movie News LIVE!
School's out for summer, so we've got a jam-packed episode of Breakfast All Day to help you fill those lazy days. This time we review: "Ballerina," the "John Wick" spin-off starring Ana de Armas. It's silly fun. In theaters in wide release. "The Life of Chuck," a feel-good drama that didn't make us feel particularly good. In limited release now, opening wide June 13. "Mountainhead" a deliciously mean satire about tech billionaires from "Succession" creator Jesse Armstrong. Streaming on HBO Max. "Dogma," the 1999 Kevin Smith religious comedy that's back in a 4K restoration on 1,500 screens: Movie News LIVE! Lots to discuss including Pedro Alodovar's Christmas movie, Will Ferrell doing a "Eurovision" Broadway musical and the $80 Galactus popcorn bucket. Episode 536: The Phoenician Scheme, Bring Her Back (With Dave White), Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning LIVE Spoiler Chat
We've got a grab bag of summer movies and a guest star filling in this week on Breakfast All Day. We begin with "The Phoenician Scheme," the latest overstuffed, star-studded extravaganza from Wes Anderson. The ensemble cast this time features some old and new Anderson players: Benicio Del Toro, Michael Cera, Tom Hanks, Bryan Cranston, Jeffrey Wright, Scarlett Johansson, Riz Ahmed, Benedict Cumberbatch and Mia Threapleton, who steals the show. In limited release this weekend, opening nationwide next weekend. Next, Alonso's husband, Dave White, helps out on a review of the A24 horror movie "Bring Her Back." The Philippou brothers follow up their 2022 hit "Talk to Me" with another deeply disturbing film about loss, grief, and a desire to connect supernaturally with the other side. Sally Hawkins stars as the world's worst foster mom. In theaters now. And we wanted to share the audio from our live spoiler chat about "Mission: Impossible -- The Final Reckoning." We has a great turnout earlier this week to dig into all the ways the eighth Ethan Hunt adventure ties into previous installments, as well as who lives and who dies. We love doing these spoiler talks and we'll be sure to plan more as the summer progresses. Thanks for being here! * Subscribe to Christy's Saturday Matinee newsletter:

Episode 535: Lilo & Stitch (2025), Friendship, Movie News LIVE!
It's Friendship Week here at Breakfast All Day. And we've come to cause delightful and adorable chaos over the long holiday. If you're looking for our review of the new "Mission: Impossible," we did that in last week's episode. First, we discuss the new "Lilo & Stitch," which is an awful lot like the old "Lilo & Stitch." Disney is once again redoing their animated favorites as live-action features. We're mixed on it, but families will enjoy it, and the casting is great. In theaters. Then we catch up with the cringe comedy of "Friendship" from A24. Tim Robinson and Paul Rudd co-star as neighbors who become unlikely pals really quickly, then have a really ugly falling out. We don't agree on how well this movie works. It's been playing in limited release but expands nationwide this weekend. Finally, we have our first Movie News LIVE! in a few weeks, now that things are getting back to normal for Christy, health-wide. Lots to talk about including the Cannes Film Festival, Alex Garland's "Elden Ring" movie, Michael Bay's "Skibidi Toilet" movie, trailers for Darren Aronofsky's "Caught Stealing" and "The Bear" S4, Billy Joel's sad medical diagnosis and more. We're hoping to get back to these livestreams more consistently now, so stay tuned. Thanks for sharing some of your time with us! * Christy is loving the latest limited-edition, non-alcoholic brew from Athletic Brewing Co., where she's proud to be an ambassador: Aftershift, which is light-bodied with notes of lime leaf and yuzu. Episode 534: Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning (NO Spoilers!), Final Destination Bloodlines, Hurry Up Tomorrow
Getting back to normal just in time for the summer movie season to heat up here at Breakfast All Day. Thanks for your patience. We begin with a super-early, spoiler-free review of "Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning," the eighth and supposedly final film in the action franchise. Tom Cruise delivers an even more extreme version of the insane stunts you've come to expect from the series. It's exhausting, and overlong, but fun. In theaters May 23. Next up is "Final Destination Bloodlines," which is also insane, and fun. You don't have to have seen any of the previous five movies to enjoy the elaborate, meticulously paced kills, but there are Easter eggs for the fans. In theaters now. We wrap up with "Hurry Up Tomorrow," starring The Weeknd as a version of himself: a pop star with a self-destructive streak who has an intense, emotional connection with a fan (Jenna Ortega). There's some artistry on display but the movie is mostly cringe. In theaters. And for , we have a lengthy recap of the last three episodes of "Andor," and more. We're gonna miss that show, but we don't have to miss you. Thanks for being here. Subscribe to Christy's Saturday Matinee newsletter for extra goodies:

Episode 533: Thunderbolts*, Another Simple Favor, Rust, Havoc, Movie News LIVE!
Summer's here -- at least at the movie theater -- so we've got a jam-packed episode of Breakfast All Day for you. We begin with the movie that's kicking off blockbuster season: "Thunderbolts*," with an asterisk. It's the latest film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the best one in a long time. We really enjoyed this. In theaters. Next up is "Another Simple Favor," the sequel to the 2018 comic thriller "A Simple Favor." Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick reunite, and while there's not much spark left, the clothes are still spectacular. Streaming on Prime Video. Then, we honor the beautiful work of the late Halyna Hutchins with a review of "Rust." The cinematographer died in an accidental shooting during production on the Western. Now that the film is out -- and that proceeds are going to Hutchins' family -- we wanted to watch and discuss it. In theaters and on VOD. Finally, we catch up with "Havoc," which has been the No. 1 movie on Netflix for some reason. Tom Hardy plays a detective in a drug war between the city's corrupt mayor and its corrupt police department. From the director of "The Raid" movies. Streaming now. Plus, we did a Movie News LIVE! for the last time before Christy's lumpectomy on Monday. We're not sure what May is going to look like, but we wanted to make sure and say hi to our folks one more time. Among the topics we discussed were Jeremy Renner, "Sgt. Rock," John Mulaney's Netflix show and more. We'll keep you posted on our plans through Christy's Saturday Matinee newsletter. Episode 532: The Accountant 2, Drop, Movie News LIVE!
April's gonna April, with a couple of forgettable action flicks we're mixed on as we wait for the summer blockbusters to arrive. We begin with "The Accountant 2," which is the sequel to "The Accountant," and if you forgot that 2016 movie even existed, you're not alone. Ben Affleck is back as a math whiz with a particular set of skills. Jon Bernthal co-stars. In theaters. Then, we catch up with "Drop," which several people asked us to review. It's another twisty, high-concept thriller from "Happy Death Day" director Christopher Landon. Meghann Fahy ("The White Lotus" S2) goes on a first date and starts getting menacing messages on her phone. In theaters. Finally, we're here for you with Movie News LIVE!: Oscar voting changes, the "Heartstopper" movie, the Turner Classic Movie festival and more. We'll try and do this as often as we can over the next couple months on Fridays at Noon Pacific, so keep an eye out and join us. Thanks as always for being here at Breakfast All Day! Episode 531: Sinners, A Minecraft Movie, The Wedding Banquet, Secret Mall Apartment, Movie News LIVE!
It's a massive catch-up episode of the Breakfast All Day podcast. New stuff! Sorta new stuff! And a lengthy movie news segment to cover all the topics we missed during spring break. We begin with a review of the epic "Sinners," one of the year's most anticipated films, which lives up to the hype and more. Ryan Coogler re-teams with his frequent muse, Michael B. Jordan, who plays dual roles as identical twins in 1930s Mississippi. We loved it. In theaters (and see it in IMAX if you can.) Next up is "A Minecraft Movie," which has been out for a couple of weeks but we missed it over vacation. We were surprised how much we enjoyed it (and behaved ourselves during the chicken jockey of it all). In theaters. Next: We review Andrew Ahn's remake of the 1993 Ang Lee arthouse classic "A Wedding Banquet." Bowen Yang, Lily Gladstone and Kelly Marie Tran are among the cast in this romantic comedy about queer couples juggling love and cultural traditions. In theaters. And then, we wanted to include the audio from our "Secret Mall Apartment" review from a couple weeks back. This thoroughly entertaining documentary follows a group of artists who found a hidden spot in the middle of the Providence Place Mall and called it home for several years in the early 2000s. Find out here when it's playing near you: Finally, Movie News LIVE! is back. Lots to discuss, including the new "Fantastic Four" trailer, "The Breakfast Club" reunion, Aimee Lou Wood, Fyre Festival 2 and more. Episode 530: The Friend, Freaky Tales, Holland reviews
We couldn't have imagined a more random episode to leave you with before spring break, but hopefully there's a little something for everyone here at Breakfast All Day. We begin with "The Friend," a warm and wise drama about grief, healing, and a 150-pound Great Dane. We don't totally agree on how well this movie works, but the dog is amazing. Starring Naomi Watts, Bill Murray, Carla Gugino and Ann Dowd. In theaters. Next up is the four-part anthology "Freaky Tales," from "Captain Marvel" filmmakers Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, returning to their indie roots. Pedro Pascal, Ben Mendelsohn, Jay Ellis, Dominique Thorne and Too $hort are among the stars of this intertwined homage to 1987 Oakland. In theaters. Finally, we catch up with "Holland," but you're welcome to avoid it. Nicole Kidman, Matthew Macfadyen and Gael García Bernal star in this overly familiar dark comedy about secrets lurking beneath the pristine veneer of small-town America. Streaming on Prime Video. No news this week because Christy's on vacation. , keep an eye out for our recap of "The White Lotus" season finale on Monday morning. Thanks for being here! Episode 529: The Woman in the Yard, Locked, Movie News LIVE!
Totally by coincidence, both of our movies this week are about characters who are stuck inside. But we hope you're getting out and about and enjoying the springtime, and that you'll take us with you here at Breakfast All Day. We begin with a review of "The Woman in the Yard," which Universal didn't screen for critics before opening day. The latest Blumhouse horror movie stars the always great Danielle Deadwyler as a widow and mother of two, dealing with a mysterious and menacing ... woman in the yard. In theaters. We also catch up with "Locked," which came out last weekend. Bill Skarsgård finds himself trapped in a fancy SUV when he picks the wrong car to steal from a Vancouver parking lot. Anthony Hopkins is the voice of the car owner who torments him remotely. Also in theaters. And we finally did Movie News LIVE! for the first time in about three weeks. Things have been a little crazy around here. Among the topics we talked about were "No Other Land" director Hamdan Ballal, Sundance leaving Park City, Rachel Zegler, "Avengers: Doomsday" and more. We won't be back for another livestream until April 18 because of spring break, but we look forward to seeing you then, and we're so happy you're here now. Episode 528: Snow White, Magazine Dreams, Eephus, The Alto Knights
A little birdie told us you were looking for a new episode of our Breakfast All Day podcast, so we whipped one up for you (and whistled a happy tune while we did it). We have a full slate of reviews for you this time. "Snow White" is the big movie of the week: the latest live-action reimagining of a Disney animation classic. Rachel Zegler stars as the O.G. princess, with Gal Gadot playing the Evil Queen. Lots of people are mad at this movie for a variety of ridiculous reasons. If you decide to see it for yourself, let us know what you think. It's in theaters. Also opening this week, finally, is "Magazine Dreams." This is the film that was supposed to cement Jonathan Majors' status as a major talent of our time -- then he was arrested and convicted of assault and harassment. He gives an incredible performance in a film filled with craft, if you can separate the art from the artist, and we don't blame you if you can't. It's tough. In theaters. We also catch up with the indie baseball movie "Eephus," which is a delightfully shaggy hang. Carson Lund fills the screen with eccentric characters and a rich sense of place, inspired by his baseball-obsessed youth in Nashua, NH. We both loved this movie. In limited release; find out here when it's playing near you: Finally, we review a movie you probably had no idea existed: "The Alto Knights," starring Robert De Niro in dual roles as New York gangsters Frank Costello and Vito Genovese. Director Barry Levinson goes through the motions in trotting out mob tropes. It's also in theaters, but you can miss this one. Episode 527: The Electric State, Opus reviews
It's a Pi Day miracle: We recorded these reviews in the same place at the same time for the first time in a long time. Five years, to be exact. And it was so nice to be together again at Alonso's apartment on this rainy day in LA. We begin with "The Electric State," an empty, ugly, $320 million action extravaganza from longtime MCU directors Anthony and Joe Russo. It's a retro-futuristic, post-apocalyptic story set in the '90s, after humans and robots have gone to war. The ridiculous cast includes Millie Bobby Brown, Chris Pratt, Stanley Tucci, Anthony Mackie, Brian Cox, Jenny Slate, Ke Huy Quan and Woody Harrelson as Mr. Peanut. Yes, you read that right. Streaming now on Netflix. We were also disappointed with "Opus," about a legendary pop star who invites a group of journalists to his remote retreat to listen to his first album in three decades. It's an A24 horror movie, and it feels awfully familiar. It also features an impressive cast including Ayo Edebiri, John Malkovich, Murray Bartlett, Juliette Lewis and Amber Midthunder. In theaters now. And over at our Patreon, we recap the latest episode of "Daredevil: Born Again" on Disney+. Thanks for sharing some of your time with us -- we'll try to do this in person again soon! Episode 526: Novocaine, Black Bag reviews (NO Spoilers!)
This Friday is so jam-packed with new movies that we wanted to review a couple of them early for you here at Breakfast All Day. We begin with the action comedy "Novocaine," starring Jack Quaid as a mild-mannered bank manager who feels no pain. When robbers kidnap the woman he adores (Amber Midthunder), he finds his affliction is actually an asset. One of us liked this movie better than the other. But we both loved "Black Bag," starring Michael Fassbender and Cate Blanchett as British spies who love each other but don't totally trust each other. This is the second film this year from director Steven Soderbergh and writer David Koepp, following "Presence" in January. It's sleek, sexy and stylish. This is a spoiler-free review. Episode 525: Mickey 17 review, Movie News LIVE!
If you thought one Robert Pattinson was good, wait 'til you see two of them in "Mickey 17." We couldn't wait to review the latest sci-fi/satire extravaganza from the great South Korean auteur Bong Joon Ho, his first film since the historic Oscar wins of his 2019 masterpiece, "Parasite." But while we both enjoyed Pattinson's dual performances, we're split on how effective "Mickey 17" is as a whole. Co-starring Steven Yeun, Naomi Ackie, Mark Ruffalo and Toni Collette. In theaters now. Then we had a lot to talk about during our regular Friday Movie News LIVE!: Oscar follow-ups, the start of South by Southwest, John Mulaney's "Everybody's Live" on Netlix and more. Oscar Night was so much fun that we couldn't wait to wake up and talk about everything that happened. In case you missed, here it is for your listening enjoyment. "Anora" was the big winner of the night with five Academy Awards, and Sean Baker made history for winning four of them for the same film: best picture, director, screenplay and editing. Plus Mikey Madison was (sort of) the surprise winner in the best actress category for her star-making turn in the title role. Episode 523: Remembering Gene Hackman, Grand Theft Hamlet review
A quick, mixed bag, and it's coming at you on a Thursday for a change, in our latest episode of Breakfast All Day. We begin with a tribute to Gene Hackman, the legendary actor who was discovered dead in his Santa Fe, N.M., home this week. The two-time Oscar winner was 95 years old. His wife and one of his dogs had died, as well, and authorities are investigating. But we wanted to remember his long and varied career, and we'll honor Hackman further with our March Off the Menu poll, so keep an eye out for that. Also, we catch up with "Grand Theft Hamlet," a totally original documentary about a couple of actors who staged a production of "Hamlet" entirely within the video game Grand Theft Auto Online. It's hilarious but also surprisingly poignant. Streaming now on Mubi. We're posting a day early because we're taking part in the Feb. 28 Economic Blackout. First, we review "Flow," which is up for best animated feature and best international feature. This delicate, wordless film from Latvian director Gints Zilbalodis follows a cat, a dog and various other creatures as they team up to survive after a catastrophic flood. In theaters and available for rental. Plus, we discuss "September 5," a gripping drama that recounts the hostage crisis that rocked the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich. It recreates how the ABC Sports team responded to this breaking news with no real blueprint for covering a live terrorist attack. It's been nominated for best original screenplay. Episode 519: Becoming Led Zeppelin, Sly Lives! (aka The Burden of Black Genius) reviews
We're here to serenade you on this Valentine's Day episode of Breakfast All Day with reviews of two new music documentaries. Alonso's not feeling well, so his husband Dave White was lovely enough to share his insights. First, we discuss "Becoming Led Zeppelin," which traces the origins of one of the greatest bands in rock history. It's been playing for the past week in IMAX, and if you can see it that way, it's like being at a concert with that huge screen and incredible sound. Expanding to more theaters nationwide today. We also discuss the latest film from Questlove, "Sly Lives! (aka The Burden of Black Genius)," about Sly Stone of Sly & the Family Stone. The film explores Stone's musical ingenuity as well as his struggles with substance abuse, and features interviews with artists who help put his greatness into perspective. Streaming on Hulu. No movie news today, but check back with us next Friday at Noon Pacific. Have a terrific holiday weekend! Subscribe to Christy's Saturday Matinee newsletter:

Episode 518: Captain America: Brave New World, Paddington in Peru reviews
We have early reviews today of a couple big Valentine's Weekend movies: That's how much we love you here at Breakfast All Day. First, the disappointing "Captain America: Brave New World," which looked like it had potential as a suspenseful, '70s-style political thriller. Anthony Mackie is very good as he straps on the shield and steps into Chris Evans' Avengers role, but the movie itself is a mess. In theaters. Then, we were both delighted by "Paddington in Peru," the follow-up to one of Alonso's favorite movies ever, 2017's "Paddington 2." Ben Whishaw returns as the gentle voice of Britain's beloved bear, leading the way through madcap adventures in the Amazonian jungle. Also in theaters. Check back with us on Friday when we'll have reviews of the music documentaries "Becoming Led Zeppelin" and "Sly Lives!" Thanks for being here.

Episode 517: Love Hurts, No Other Land, Movie News LIVE!
It's an extremely February mix on the latest Breakfast All Day episode, including a terrible Valentine's movie and an excellent Oscar nominee. We begin with "Love Hurts," which we thought had potential because it stars Ke Huy Quan and Ariana DeBose, both recent Academy Award winners. But they have zero chemistry with each other in this action romance. In theaters. Then we review "No Other Land," a documentary from a collective of Palestinian and Israeli filmmakers who captured the Israeli military's occupation of the West Bank's Masefar Yatta. It's up for best documentary feature at the Academy Awards, but it's a miracle that it even exists. In theaters in limited release and expanding to more cities. Finally, we're back with Movie News LIVE!, where we catch up with the state fof awards season between last night's LA Film Critics dinner and all the continuing "Emilia Pérez" madness. Plus: a couple of summer blockbuster trailers are out, and more in the ongoing legal saga between Blake Likely and Justin Baldoni. Join us every Friday at Noon Pacific. Episode 516: I'm Still Here, The Seed of the Sacred Fig reviews
This might be the art-housiest Arthouse Tuesday we've ever done, as we catch up with two of the five films nominated for best international feature at this year's Oscars. The first, "I'm Still Here," is also up for the top prize of all, best picture, as well as best actress for Fernanda Torres' beautifully subtle performance. Torres stars in this true story as a wife and mother trying to hold her family together during Brazil's military dictatorship in the early 1970s. Veteran filmmaker Walter Salles directs. It's in theaters now. Then we catch up with "The Seed of the Sacred Fig" from Iranian writer-director Mohammad Rasoulof, who made the film entirely in secret. Rasoulof, who also won best director from the LA Film Critics Association, tells the story of a family that gets caught up in the political turmoil of the recent "Woman Life Freedom" uprising in Tehran. In theaters and streaming. We still have "Flow" to go, and then we'll have reviewed all five films in this category. Keep an eye (and ear) out for our Oscar predictions livestream on Feb. 25. Until then, thanks for listening! Subscribe to Christy's Saturday Matinee newsletter:

Episode 515: You're Cordially Invited, Companion (With SPOILERS!) reviews
January finally -- mercifully -- has come to an end. And we're here to help you wrap it up with a quick visit on Breakfast All Day. First, we review "You're Cordially Invited," the kind of comedy that used to come out in actual theaters but is now streaming on Prime Video. Reese Witherspoon and Will Ferrell clash in this extremely R-rated wedding comedy. It's getting extremely mixed reviews but we laughed a lot. Then, we have a SPOILER review of the sci-fi thriller "Companion," because we didn't know how to tell you how great it was without getting into all of its twists. So if you'd like to avoid spoilers, you might want to turn off this episode around the 15:09 mark. If not, feel free to listen with reckless abandon. Sophie Thatcher and Jack Quaid play a young couple who travel with some friends to a beautiful house in the woods. Bad things happen. You've been warned! No Movie News LIVE! today because Christy had lunch plans with one of her best friends who was visiting from out of town. But come back and see us next Friday, Feb. 7 at Noon Pacific time. Episode 514: Luther: Never Too Much, The Girl With the Needle reviews
It's a random Arthouse Tuesday here at Breakfast All Day, with reviews of two extremely different films. First, we discuss the documentary "Luther: Never Too Much," about the late, legendary R&B singer Luther Vandross. Director Dawn Porter's film is an appreciative exploration of Vandross' talent, work ethic and attention to detail. Whether you're a huge fan or you don't know much about him, you'll find this entertaining. In theaters this weekend, streaming on OWN starting Feb. 7 and Max starting Feb. 8. Then, we catch up with "The Girl With the Needle," the exquisitely beautiful and harrowing Danish film that's up for the best international feature Oscar. Director and co-writer Magnus von Horn tells the story of a young pregnant woman (Van Carmen Sonne) who seeks help from a charismatic shopkeeper (Trine Dyrholm) in 1919 Copenhagen. Shot in high-contrast black and white, it's gorgeous but grim. It was also on Christy's top-10 list for 2024. In theaters now and streaming on Mubi. Thanks for being here. Come on back Friday for reviews of "Companion" and "You're Cordially Invited." Subscribe to Christy's Saturday Matinee newsletter: https://christylemire.beehiiv.com/

Episode 513: Flight Risk, Presence, One of Them Days, Movie News LIVE!
For the most part, it's a surprisingly good week for January movies here at Breakfast All Day. We begin with the one that's not so good: "Flight Risk," and even that's not completely terrible. Mark Wahlberg stars as a pilot flying a U.S. Marshal (Michelle Dockery) and a fugitive (Topher Grace) to Anchorage, but the skies aren't so friendly. Mel Gibson directs, which you'd never know from the trailers. In theaters. Then, we loved "Presence," the latest experimental lark from Steven Soderbergh. It's a haunted house movie where the ghost is the camera. Soderbergh makes clever, elegant use of his first-person perspective. In theaters. We also catch up with the comedy "One of Them Days," which is a total delight. Keke Palmer and SZA have terrific chemistry as roommates who must come up with the rent on their run-down Los Angeles apartment by the end of the day, or they'll be evicted. It felt really good to laugh this week. In theaters. Finally, we did our usual Friday Movie News LIVE! We followed up on Oscar nominations, our wildfire fundraiser, Razzie Award nominations and the start of the Sundance Film Festival. No news on Jan. 31, but come back and join us on Feb. 7. Episode 512: 2025 Oscar Nominations LIVE Chat!
We had an incredible turnout today for our annual Oscar Nominations LIVE Chat! Thanks to all the lovely folks who woke up early with us on Hollywood's biggest morning. "Emilia Pérez" leads all nominees with 13 -- which is historic for a foreign-language film -- followed by "The Brutalist" and "Wicked" with 10 each. We were thrilled by some nominations (Coralie Fargeat in best director for "The Substance") and bummed by the omission of others (Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross in best score for "Challengers"). And we were proud and thrilled to receive such a tremendous outpouring of support for our LA Wildfire fundraiser. All the Super Chat and Super Thanks donations we've gotten will go toward three charities we've selected: the Entertainment Community Fund, Pasadena Humane Society and World Central Kitchen. Just from the stream alone, we raised $936.59, which is way more than we expected, and that number keeps growing as people have added to it in the hours since. So thank you all for your generosity. If you'd like to contribute, . Click on the three dots beneath the video, then Thanks. Let us know what your thoughts were on this year's nominations. And keep an eye out for our Oscar Predictions livestream, which will happen a few days before the Academy Awards on March 2.

Episode 511: Wolf Man, Back in Action, Movie News LIVE!
We've got some mediocre January movies and a lengthy news segment to keep you company on the latest episode of Breakfast All Day. First, we review "Wolf Man," director Leigh Whannell's take on the classic creature feature. Christopher Abbott stars as a husband and father who takes his family back to his childhood home in the Oregon woods. Bad things happen. Julia Garner and Matilda Firth co-star. In theaters. Then, Cameron Diaz and Jamie Foxx re-team for the generic comedy "Back in Action." Diaz (in her first movie in a decade) and Foxx play ex-spies in suburbia who get dragged back in the fray when their cover is blown. Their shocked kids must go along for the adventure, too. Ironic needle drops and bad special effects ensue. Streaming now on Netflix. Finally, it's a jam-packed Movie News LIVE! We talk about the state of the LA Wildfires, awards season, and how they'll affect each other in the weeks to come. Plus we try to untangle the whole Justin Baldoni/Blake Lively "It Ends With Us" fiasco, which has ended with them suing each other. And of course, we remember the singular David Lynch, who died this week at 78. Thanks for being with us during this busy, difficult time. And make sure to join us at our YouTube channel on Thursday, Jan. 23 at 8am Pacific for our Oscar Nominations livestream, which will be a fundraiser for wildfire relief efforts. Episode 510: Better Man, Hard Truths, Movie News LIVE!
It's been a devastating week here in Southern California, with historic, deadly wildfires destroying thousands of homes. We've never seen anything like it. But we also wanted to show up for you, be consistent, and maybe provide some comfort for a little while. So if you're in need of that, we're here for you at Breakfast All Day. We have a couple of movie reviews , starting with "Better Man," an unconventional music biopic in which British pop superstar Robbie Williams appears as a chimp. Yes, you read that right. And it works surprisingly well. In theaters now. Then we discuss "Hard Truths," the latest from writer-director Mike Leigh. Marianne Jean-Baptiste gives a shattering performance as a middle-aged wife and mother who's miserable, and insists on making everyone around her miserable, as well. Jean-Baptiste has been and will continue to be in the awards conversation. In theaters now in limited release before opening wider on Jan. 17. Then we did our first Movie News LIVE! of the new year. We wanted to give folks a chance to sit and chat with us, and to let everyone know that we're OK. We talked about the fires, how they're affecting this city and the entertainment industry, and what the reverberations might be over the months and years to come. Please stay safe, and thanks for sharing a few moments with us during these unprecedented times. Subscribe to Christy's Saturday Matinee newsletter for more:
