This study claims that cannabis use in pregnancy causes higher levels of cortisol in the children born, resulting in more instances of anxiety, stress, and depression. Here's the study: Now, you know we tried to go straight to the source and we reached out to the study's author, Yasmin Hurd, but got no response. So we brought on our own medical experts to unpack the study's findings and provide real, transparent, and unbiased insights from two board-certified registered nurses, Kait Boettcher and Adjuan Edgerson. We asked each nurse a variety of questions about the study, and they broke down what this study's findings really mean for pregnant mamas using cannabis. The nurses also provide advice for expectant mothers who want to use cannabis for medical reasons. I breastfed both of my kids. But I only used cannabis while breastfeeding one of them. Not too surprisingly, my second born (my cannababy) was the kid I used cannabis while breastfeeding and he's the one I ended up breastfeeding the longest -- 25 months to be exact. I know it's no coincidence either because without cannabis I would have given up and thrown in the towel way sooner because breastfeeding is not easy -- neither is weaning. Well, that's what I thought until I started intentionally using cannabis postpartum and realizing along the way how helpful weed could really be for a breastfeeding mama. This is a highly requested topic and I am finally giving y'all all the information on why I used cannabis during breastfeeding, how I weaned both my kids, and how cannabis helped with not only my breastfeeding journey but weaning, too. I used cannabis during my pregnancy with my second child and I firmly believe it was the best decision I ever could have made for myself and baby. I enjoyed my pregnancy, I was emotionally well and physically cared for with the help of cannabis. Now, I want to make sure other parents know that cannabis is an option for pregnancy, too. Listen, I know that pregnancy can be very challenging physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. In my opinion, cannabis eases those challenges and allows me to just enjoy the blessing that is pregnancy -- bask in the experience as my body works a true miracle. It's so hard to be present for that miracle when navigating the many curveballs pregnancy can throw your way. So, after many requests from y'all, I put together this episode as a resource and needed guidance for anyone who is considering using cannabis during pregnancy and doesn't know where to start. This year has been a whirlwind for Blunt Blowin' Mama with lots of change -- all for the better :). I am happy to say that the Blunt Blowin' Mama podcast is back and will be back each week from here on out. No more breaks. No more interruptions. Before I jump into other topics and share episodes with upcoming guests, I wanted to talk with you one-on-one to let you know what I've been up to. It's been so long since I've recorded a solo episode of the podcast (like maybe a... year?) so that's a lot of tea to spill. From my move out of LA over the summer (yeah, I am revealing where I am living now) to my decision to end my relationship, I am not holding back on this episode. I missed y'all so much -- it's so good to be back! Are you a mom who smokes weed and is looking for her tribe or a lady stoner who wants to find a new sesh crew? We are kicking off the month with a conversation about all the ways cannabis can help ladies be well from our menstrual cycle to pregnancy to menopause, we cover all the bases in this episode with Genester Wilson-King, MD, FACOG, who is a Board-Certified Obstetrician and Gynecologist with over 20 years of clinical experience providing compassionate and research-driven care to patients. It's so important to have board-certified medical professionals to share their insights on using cannabis and how to approach other doctors about it. Dr. Wilson-King founded the Victory Rejuvenation Center (VRC), a private holistic and integrative wellness medicine practice that provides life-transforming management modalities and customized medicines to patients. She is also the vice president of the Society of Cannabis Clinicians, a non-profit that works to empower and educate healthcare providers on the use of cannabis medicine. As a member of the Special Advisory Board for ACHEM (Association for Cannabis Health Equity and Medicine), an organization focused on helping the BIPOC community in multiple areas of the cannabis movement. And finally, on the Board of Directors of Doctors for Cannabis Regulation (DFCR), the first and only national physicians’ association dedicated to the legalization and regulation of cannabis for adults. Let's start with this: No one should be in jail for weed. It's 420 and it's only appropriate for Evelyn LaChapelle to be a guest on the podcast. Evelyn is a mom, cannabis advocate and business owner. She is also very open about her experiences within the legal justice system after being sentenced to 87 months in federal prison for depositing cannabis funds into a bank account. The California mom spent five years in the North Carolina prison across the country from her friends, family and her young daughter. She details the nuances of her release from prison that many people may be unaware of, like how she entered a drug rehab program in exchange for time off her sentence. It was in this program that she had to introduce herself as someone who was "addicted" to marijuana. While we all celebrate the plant each year on April 20, it's also important to take a moment to remember that this same plant was weaponzied against Black and brown people for years and the effects can still be felt today. Evelyn shares how she had to watch cannabis go legal in her home state and numerous other states across the country while she served time for it. We also get into how she and her daughter handled her incarceration -- which she admits was tough for them both, including her own mother who would fly across the county just so she could visit with her for 30 minutes.
