J Luke Bennecke - Blackout: Jake Bendel
Amidst the concrete jungles of Southern California, a master civil engineer became a world-renowned author, philanthropist, and daredevil pilot. While constructing bridges and highways, J. Luke Bennecke secretly plotted high-octane thrillers that became instant bestsellers. But his adventures didn't end there. As a licensed real estate broker and general contractor, he built homes with the precision of a ninja, all while jetting off to exotic destinations, voiceover acting, and giving back to the community via annual high school scholarships. Living in the shadows of Southern California with his wife and three spunky cats, Bennecke's next daring escapade is always just around the corner. For more information, visit jlukebennecke.com Get Luke's latest book Backout on Amazon at amzn.to/4f73tIM The blurb for Blackout: It's strategy. Behind the assassination stands Tracy Ciacchella, a brilliant and ruthless leader of a shadowy global cabal known only as New3-a powerful alliance determined to accelerate the collapse of American dominance. Their plan is chilling in its simplicity: eliminate the president, cripple the nation's power grid, and plunge the United States into darkness long enough for rival superpowers to seize the advantage. Civil engineer Jake Bendel never expected to find himself on the front lines of that war. As one of the architects of America's revolutionary AI-driven energy grid, he helped design the very system now being weaponized against his country. When cascading blackouts sweep across the nation and martial law looms, Jake teams up with FBI agent Kristi Konnors to track the network orchestrating the attacks. What they uncover is far more dangerous than a cyberattack-an international conspiracy positioned to hand America's collapse to China and Russia.

Pete A Turner – Affect vs Effect and Baseball Outcomes
Pete A Turner is our guest on the Break It Down Show. Brad Hutchings sits in to run a discussion founded in the topic of Affect vs Effect. Affects thinking drives results in a more powerful way. Emotions are an accelerant for culture. Cultural based decisions offer compulsion and reject design. Effect thinking anticipates a series of actions, tasks or outcomes that lead inexorably to a positive conclusion. The concept of Affect helps identify where work begins. It helps better control for missed outcomes. Desired affects aren't easy to collect. Still, they are impossible to benefit from if one is focused on effects. Emotions gathered by design are a powerful compulsion device.

Jim's latest book is They Call us Lucky., Get DeFelice's They Called Us "Lucky" on Amazon at https://amzn.to/4vbvnKf The book's blurb: At first, they were “Lucky Lima.” Infantryman Ruben Gallego and his brothers in Lima Company—3rd Battalion, 25th Marines, young men drawn from blue-collar towns, immigrant households, Navajo reservations—returned unscathed on patrol after patrol through the increasingly violent al Anbar region of Iraq. After two months, Lima didn't have a casualty, not a single Purple Heart, no injury worse than a blister. Then, in May 2005, Lima’s fortunes flipped. Unknown to Ruben and his fellow grunts, al Anbar had recently become a haven for al Qaeda in Mesopotamia. The bin Laden-sponsored group had recruited radicals from all over the world for jihad against the Americans. On one fateful day, they were lured into a death house; the ambush cost the lives of two men, including a platoon sergeant. Two days later, Ruben’s best friend, Jonathon Grant, died in an IED attack, along with several others. Events worsened from there. A disastrous operation in Haditha in August claimed the lives of thirteen Marines when an IED destroyed their amphibious vehicle. It was the worst single-day loss for the Marines since the 1983 Beirut bombings. By the time 3/25 went home in November, it had lost more men than any other single unit in the war. Forty-six Marines and two Navy Corpsmen serving with the battalion in Iraq were killed in action during their roughly nine-month activation. They Called Us “Lucky” details Ruben Gallego’s journey and includes harrowing accounts of some of the war’s most costly battles. It details the struggles and the successes of Ruben and the rest of Lima Company following Iraq, examining the complicated matter of PTSD. And it serves as a tribute to Ruben’s fallen comrades, who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.

Get Every Weapon I had on Amazon at amzn.to/4mp5TVf Davis discusses the rarity of being a Black soldier in Special Forces during the Vietnam era. It turns out, Paris and Hall of Famer Lou Brock knew one another in college. Paris lights up when discussing his relationship with his friend Lou. From the book's blurb: Every Weapon I Had is an inspiring tale of valor and sacrifice, set against the backdrop of major escalations in both the Vietnam War and the Civil Rights movement. It is also a story of deferred honor and delayed recognition; Davis earned the Silver Star and Purple Heart for his actions, but his nomination for the Congressional Medal of Honor was repeatedly “lost.” No official reason has ever been given for this oversight, but those who fought to correct it believe that it was motivated by racial prejudice. Davis was finally awarded the Medal in 2023, 58 years after the battle.

However, he's best known for his position as CEO and president of the Florida-based security software company Authentium, Inc… …A year later, he would leave the company to focus on another passion of his: writing.”—Marie Claire douglasbrunt-author.com Get The Lost Empire of Emanuel Nobel https://amzn.to/3PbVTnn Here's the blurb from Douglas' book: With the exception of the tsar, Emanuel Nobel was likely the wealthiest man in early twentieth-century Russia, and one of the wealthiest in the world. Over three generations, he and his family grew the Russian petroleum industry into a behemoth that surpassed even John D. Rockefeller’s Standard Oil. The Nobels imported the best practices from America and improved on them, transforming every aspect of the industry. Though Emanuel’s uncle Alfred would become world famous thanks to his creation of the Nobel Prize, the even more successful Nobels in Russia have been largely forgotten. The reason why is one of history’s most gripping untold stories. Working in the oil fields of southern Russia at the same time as Emanuel was a troubled young man from a peasant family in Georgia. Though educated to be a priest, he took a different path when he discovered the revolutionary ideas of Karl Marx. In and out of prison in Siberia, charismatic and committed, always at the center of a fight, this young man would become known to the world as Joseph Stalin, a leader of the Bolshevik Revolution and eventually one of the most brutal dictators in history. Directly in Stalin’s crosshairs was Emanuel Nobel, who represented everything Stalin despised about capitalism. As the world turned upside down, Emanuel began to plan a life-or-death escape from Russia. But would he make it out in time? And what would be the fate of the immense empire he and his family had built?

Get, God Forgives on Amazon at https://amzn.to/4fJRcfp Here's the blurb from Jasper's book: When investigative reporter Jasper Craven first dug into Valley Forge Military Academy five years ago, he uncovered an acrid strain of masculinity that was raw, violent, fiercely hierarchical, and quickly mutating out of control. Initially, he had assumed that military education was a dying, outmoded brand. But as he looked deeper, he found a sprawling, well-funded network featuring dozens of military schools, like Valley Forge and West Point, plus thousands of ROTC programs in public colleges and high schools that allowed the Pentagon to wield outsized power on education. In an unflinching narrative, Craven explores how the military has come to define American masculinity and how it often fosters its most toxic traits. Beginning with the American Revolution, Craven shows how the birth of our nation required a new masculine ideal, crafted in the image of George Washington. During the brutality of the Civil War, Craven traces the parallel violence in military hazing culture and the deeply prejudicial culture at places like West Point, which reared Jefferson Davis, Robert E. Lee, and other famed Confederates.
