As the age of 80 approaches, I limp away from bus driving. Since 2011, when I thought I would try school bus driving as a part time job, I never had this dy in mind. A few hours a day expanded. The days of the week increased. The wages went up. But the toxic environment stayed. Always short of drivers. Awkward hires with limited people skills. And a school system that could care less what the bus drivers said. Student write-ups that went nowhere. Bullying in it's many forms continued. Remembering great school bus driver Summer vacation and the weather is hot and muggy. Forget suspension. Embarrass students who misbehave. Mixed thoughts as I spend my first Spring Break 2017 day with a physical and a doctor's appointment. There are good thoughts, as I recall that 44 years ago I randomly selected Florida as my only Spring Break escape, in 1973, and found my life's mate. Yesterday, from my school bus driver's seat, I hear two stories that gave me pause. One, a young man from a split marriage, being told by his distant mother to pack his PASSPORT.
