034: NU-METAL MAGIC: THE GATHERING OF THE RPG FAITHFUL (AN INTERVIEW WITH GARRY BRENTS)
In this episode, the Butte Blazzst Boyezzz™ talk with a very special guest by the name of Garry Brents. Garry is the prolific solo artist behind projects such as Sallow Moth, Homesick, and Gonemage, as well as being one half of underground legends, the now-defunct Cara Neir. However, Garry is currently probably most well-known for Memorrhage, a project that incorporates a healthy dose of 90s nu-metal magic combined with metallic hardcore, grind, and industrial metal influences. Memorrhage has been covered by a wide array of underground metal publications as well as national news outlets, such as NPR. During the Buddt Bladd Beauz™ talk with Garry, they explore the reasons behind the confounding return of nu-metal and how Garry balances the pop-oriented aspects of nu-metal with the aggression of Garry’s other influences. They examine the significance of 90s nostalgia for millennials and zoomers. Finally, they discuss the impact that role-playing games, and specifically Magic: The Gathering, have had on Garry’s creative voice.
