Fr. Sebastian Walshe “Understanding Marriage and Family” - Lisa Hendey & Friends #120
On this week's show, Fr. Sebastian Walshe, author of the new book , offers pastoral thoughts on contemporary marriage and family life. About Fr. Sebastian Walshe: Originally from Pasadena, Fr. Sebastian Walshe is a Norbertine Canon of the Abbey of St. Michael in the Diocese of Orange, California, where he is the dean of studies for the seminary program. After completing his studies at Thomas Aquinas College in California, he continued studies at The Catholic University of America in Washington D.C., receiving a license in Philosophy. Later, he attended the Pontifical University of St. Thomas at Rome (the Angelicum) where he received a Masters in Sacred Theology and a Doctorate in Philosophy. About Understanding Marriage & Family: A Catholic Perspective: In this book Fr. Sebastian explains and defends the traditional understandings of marriage and family so that the goodness and beauty of marriage and family can once again shine forth. In the first part of the book, he clarifies and defends the definitions of marriage and family and contrasts them with the alternative proposals of modern society. Marriage and family are natural and necessary consequences of human nature: thus marriage is not merely a social construct, but something which fulfills the deepest inclinations of human nature. In the second part of the book, he shows how marriage and the relationships within the family are intrinsically and sacramentally related to the principal mysteries of the Catholic faith. In the third part of the book, he shows how family life at both the natural and supernatural levels can be fostered, preserved, and healed. Her most notable performance was for Pope Francis and 700,000 attendees at the Festival of Families in Philadelphia, PA. About Little Dreams With LITTLE DREAMS Miller has chosen to return to the acoustic, folk-oriented, approach of her roots. But she’s still creating music for the same reason she always has: a desire to connect people with beauty, solace, and cheer. “It’s the reason why I came, the reason why I’ll stay,” to pull a line from the album’s title track. “No matter where I go, beauty finds me somehow,” she says. Still, LITTLE DREAMS isn’t following the script of “happily ever after” after hard times; this is an album that encounters the moments when all seems dark, and cold winds threaten to blow out your internal spark. Everyone’s got that spark. For Miller, it’s to make music that asks listeners to acknowledge their own spark— the motivating force that reminds us all why we’ve been put on this earth. This requires a better knowledge of taxes, corporate structures, and a tangle of local, state, and federal labor laws and regulations. She also writes frequent on the topics of culture, politics, and religion and has published in National Review, The Federalist, and National Catholic Register. Noelle and her husband live in Southern California with their six children. About : Why do Americans love their homes, spending hundreds of billions of dollars annually on home improvement, renovations, and decor, but meanwhile, the notion of a homemaker is still held in contempt? The theology of home responds to this tension by examining the idea that home is meant to be a foreshadowing of heaven and a preparation for the eternal home for which we all, wittingly or not, long. In seeking to understand the ‘why’ behind home we can reorient ourselves to dive more deeply in our relationships — first with God, then our spouses and children, and extending into our communities and friendships. Many of us live with a low-grade fatigue and chronic anxiety that rarely, if ever, goes away. We careen through our days at breakneck speed and wonder where God is in the fray. The reality is, most of us are just too busy to live an emotionally healthy and spirituality vibrant life. Hurry is incompatible with the way of Jesus. The love, joy, and peace that form the nucleus of Jesus’ kingdom are all impossible in a life of speed. We must, as Willard went on to say, “Ruthlessly eliminate hurry.” For More Information: Website: Social: | | r Check out and find all of our book and movie suggestions at For Lisa's speaking schedule visit .
