Advent 2025 Week 4 | What's Love Got to Do With It?

Advent 2025 Week 4 | What's Love Got to Do With It?
In this Advent Week 4 reflection on Love, Dr. Daisy Dowell—physician at and a member of Christian Community Health Fellowship—invites us to wrestle with a timely and challenging question: What does love have to do with unity and reconciliation? Speaking out of the collective pain and division of recent years—from racial injustice and healthcare disparities to political unrest—Dr. Dowell reminds us that these moments are not the end of the story. Drawing from Scripture and the biblical example of Nehemiah, she lays out practical, Spirit-led steps for believers to live out love in action: asking and listening well, lamenting injustice, repenting personally and corporately, extending forgiveness, rejecting false narratives, and actively pursuing peace. At the heart of this message is a clear conviction: we cannot have unity without reconciliation, and we cannot have reconciliation without love. Love is not optional—it is the foundation of the Kingdom and the most powerful witness to the world. As we prepare our hearts for Christmas, this episode challenges us to become the answer to Jesus’ prayer in John 17—that we would be one, so that the world might believe. Because in the end, they will know that He is Savior by our love. ______________________________ CCHFTalk is a production of . Advent 2025 Week 1 | Finding Hope in Despair
12/02/2025
Advent 2025 Week 1 | Finding Hope in Despair
In this Advent Week One episode—Hope—family physician Dr. Tim Leaman of (Philadelphia) invites us into an honest, Scripture-rooted reflection on what it means to find hope in places marked by despair. Drawing from 20 years of caring for patients in Kensington and North Philly, Dr. Leaman speaks candidly about the deep wounds of inequity, addiction, violence, racism, and loss—realities he and many in Christian Community Health Fellowship experience daily. But he also reminds us: we do not come without hope. Hope that laments. Hope that acts. Hope that waits. Hope that remembers. Hope that listens. Through Jeremiah’s lament, Peter’s resurrection hope, and the Spanish word esperanza—a word that means both to hope and to wait—Dr. Leaman calls us back to the unchanging character of God and the finished work of Jesus. For every weary caregiver entering Advent, this episode offers a powerful reminder: our hope is not a feeling or a wish—it is rooted in who God is and what Christ has already done. _____________________________ CCHFTalk is a production of . Creating a Thriving Staff Culture: Challenges and Strategies | Learning Series with Breanna Lathrop, DNP, MPH, FNP-BC
Whether your clinic is small, midsize, or massive, your staff is your most valuable asset. From patient care outcomes to mission fulfillment, our success depends on those who make the clinic their workplace. However, as teams grow and expectations and norms around work continue to change, creating a thriving staff culture becomes more essential and more challenging. This session will provide a framework for thinking about staff culture in terms of health care outcomes, review current trends, and discuss innovative strategies to build a positive staff culture. This session recognizes that none of us has the answer, but seeks to create a space for sharing of best practices and identifying areas for growth. This episode was a workshop presented by Breanna Lathrop, DNP, MPH, FNP-BC, and recorded at the 2025 CCHF Conference. ___________________________ CCHFTalk is a production of . From Concept to Community | Legacy Series with Dr. Lance Loberg
From Conception to Community: Legacy Interview with Dr. Lance Loberg In this special legacy interview, Dr. Lance Loberg takes us back to the origins of the —when it was just an idea sparked by a medical student’s research project and a shared vision with co-founder H Spees. From his early encounters with Dr. John Perkins during the civil rights era, to shaping CCHF’s name, motto, and first publications, Dr. Loberg shares how faith, medicine, and community development came together in the late 1970s to launch a national movement. Along the way, he reflects on decades of serving in community and migrant health centers, working with Native American tribes, and providing care in county jails. This conversation is a living link to CCHF’s roots and a challenge to keep “” of living out the gospel through healthcare with the poor. _______________________ CCHFTalk is a production of . The Rich, The Poor, and The Kingdom of God | Katie Stinar, AFC 2025 CCHF Conference Workshop
🎧 New on CCHFTalk: The Rich, The Poor, and The Kingdom of God with Katie Stinar, Accredited Financial Counselor What does the gospel of Luke have to teach us about wealth, poverty, and the upside-down Kingdom of God? Recorded live at the as one of our 75+ workshops, this thought-provoking session features financial counselor and seminary student Katie Stinar as she explores how Luke’s gospel paints a radical vision of justice, release, and inversion—where the poor receive good news, the powerful are brought low, and generosity becomes a pathway to true freedom. Drawing from her work with financially stressed clients and her theological studies, Katie challenges listeners to rethink how we handle money and power in light of Jesus’ teachings. She unpacks key themes in Luke such as release (forgiveness/emancipation), inversion (the last becoming first), and restorative justice (intentionally uplifting the vulnerable), making a compelling case that freedom from wealth can be just as urgent as freedom from poverty. Whether you're managing clinic finances or just trying to steward your paycheck faithfully, this episode will stir your heart, stretch your theology, and invite you to invest in the Kingdom that is both now and not yet. ▶️ Listen now and ask: What would it look like to release what’s "yours" to gain what truly lasts? _______________________ CCHFTalk is a production of . Champion of Missionary Nursing | Legacy Interview with Grace Tazelaar
In this special episode of CCHFTalk, we sit down with Grace Tazelaar—nurse, mentor, missionary, and lifelong advocate for Christ-centered healthcare—for a moving legacy interview titled “Champion of Missionary Nursing.” Grace’s journey into nursing began early, inspired as a child by a visiting missionary nurse who shared stories of caring for the sick and proclaiming the Good News in underserved regions. Over the years, Grace has trained nurses at the university level, discipled young professionals through , and served in Uganda with the Luke Society during turbulent and dangerous times. Her heart for the poor led her to the Mississippi Delta, where she joined the team at Cary Christian Center, bringing hope and healing to a deeply underserved community. Grace became involved with in its earliest days. She played a key role in promoting the unique role of nurses in missional healthcare and eventually served on the CCHF board during a pivotal season of transition and growth. Following God's Call Into Cross-Cultural Ministry | Legacy Interview with Dr. Duane Claassen

Following God's Call Into Cross-Cultural Ministry | Legacy Interview with Dr. Duane Claassen
Duane Claassen has a fascinating story that’s woven throughout the early days of CCHF. He grew up on a Mennonite farm in Central California and followed God’s call to become a doctor. That eventually led him to New Hebron, Mississippi, where he worked with Voice of Calvary—alongside some of the very earliest organizers of CCHF, including H. Spees and others. He presented a workshop at the very first in Washington, D.C., in 1982. There, he met, befriended, and eventually partnered with Dr. Bob Williams, moving to Denver to help launch in the early 1980s. I truly enjoyed my visit with Duane—I hope you will too. I especially appreciated our discussion about what it means to be a Christian health center. It’s more than simply offering prayer or spiritual counsel to your patients. It’s hard to describe unless you’ve experienced it, but it has to do with Christ being the fabric—not just a component or an option, but the very foundation—of everything you do as an organization. That’s a challenging goal, and honestly, we don’t hit it every day. It doesn’t always feel great, but it requires humility, intentionality, and a genuine, thorough reliance on God. And once you’ve experienced that, you understand that it’s worth the effort. If you enjoyed this podcast, please like, subscribe, and share it with others. My prayer is that you will have the experience of knowing Christ as the fabric of your community and your work. Check out the CCHF website at to see a list of clinics that are striving to live out the gospel. And if you work at a Christian clinic, remember your first love. God will restore and refresh. Thanks for listening—I hope to see you soon. ~ Written by Steve Noblett _______________________ CCHFTalk is a production of . Small But Significant Beginnings | Legacy Interview with Ted & Patty Hewson

Small But Significant Beginnings | Legacy Interview with Ted & Patty Hewson
Ted Hewson was officially the first executive director of the fledgling organization known as . CCHF was birthed in southern Mississippi around 1980, but it moved to Philadelphia shortly after its first national conference in 1982. Ted was hired as the first director, but he eventually handed off most of those duties and became part of an early team along with his wife, Patty. Patty had served as a nurse at what eventually became in Philadelphia. David and Libby Caes then took over director responsibilities, organizing conferences and serving as editors of the Health and Development newsletter. Ted and Patty are a wealth of stories and history from the earliest days of CCHF. They were gracious enough to meet me at Esperanza on a Sunday afternoon last summer, and here's a recording of our visit together. In its early days, CCHF was small, under the radar, and largely unheard of. Conferences drew just 30 or 40 people, and the organization had no budget. It was run by young men and women who were bivocational at best. But it was a collection of Jesus-loving idealists who believed in the power of the gospel to change not just individuals, but entire systems. More than forty years later, CCHF remains a low-profile community, most at home in neglected neighborhoods, serving under-resourced neighbors. Yet we do it creatively—integrating our faith with our skills and our gifts, and slowly transforming the institution of medicine. At the time of this interview, there are more than 340 Christian clinics serving vulnerable neighbors with excellence and compassion, anchored in the desire to help people find our true Healer, Jesus Christ. Over 2,000,000 unique individuals are part of this CCHF community. We've grown to where we are today because relationships matter. I hope you’ll come into relationship with others in the CCHF community—receiving and sharing encouragement, wisdom, and insight—so that we become a movement of medical disciples who faithfully represent Christ and His Kingdom to our patients, in our organizations, and to the broken institution of healthcare in our country. Thanks for listening. I hope you make it to a soon—I’d love to meet you! ~Written by Steve Noblett _______________________ CCHFTalk is a production of . Professor in the Hood | Legacy Interview with Dr. Carol Parks

Professor in the Hood | Legacy Interview with Dr. Carol Parks
In the earliest days of , when models of Christian healthcare for the underserved were nearly nonexistent, a small band of pioneers answered a clarion call to serve. Among them was Dr. Carol Parks—a trailblazer in Christian public health whose legacy continues to shape how we understand medicine, community, and mission. Dr. Parks passed away recently, leaving behind a profound legacy of service, scholarship, and Spirit-filled compassion. Her presence, wisdom, and example will be deeply missed by the CCHF community and all who were shaped by her life and ministry. Born and raised in South Philadelphia, Dr. Parks discovered her passion for science early on. By tenth grade, she knew she wanted to work in healthcare. Dr. Parks came to Christ as a child at a neighborhood Bible club, drawn in by snacks and flannelgraph stories. That early faith shaped every step of her journey. From community clinics to the halls of academia, her work was always about more than data. It was about restoring hope. “Hope,” she reminded us, “is often missing in public health. We’ve replaced it with policy. But the gospel brings hope. And when you marry policy and gospel, you have something powerful.” CCHF is what it is today in no small part because of Dr. Carol Parks’ unwavering commitment to that powerful combination. Her life taught us that healing is not just what happens in a clinic— but also in a living room, a neighborhood, and a soul. She showed us what it looked like to be a healer, a teacher, a disciple, and a listener. She showed us how to follow Jesus into the heart of the community. She showed us how to bring hope. We thank God for her life, and we mourn her loss with hearts full of gratitude. We encourage you to listen to this CCHFTalk Legacy Interview and , recorded just a few months before she passed. We hope you enjoy this podcast, follow, like and share with your friends! ___________________________________ CCHFTalk is a production of . Practitioner, Pioneer, & Champion of Prayer | Legacy Interview with Dr. Bill Morehouse

Practitioner, Pioneer, & Champion of Prayer | Legacy Interview with Dr. Bill Morehouse
We can trace the beginnings of the modern movement of opening Christian clinics that integrate faith and medical care to serve those experiencing poverty back to five or six clinics that started in the mid to late 1970s. Bill Morehouse was one of those pioneers who started , a clinic that would serve his vulnerable neighbors in Rochester, New York, and do it in a way that honored Christ and shared his transforming love with broken people. I met Bill about twelve years ago and instantly fell in love with his infectious joy and faith. He does love people, and he spent more than forty years serving and praying for patients in Western New York. I hope you'll enjoy our chat as much as I did. Bill said that in over forty years of patient care, he only had two patients who said they were uncomfortable with him praying for them, and he respected their decision. Our patients need and want someone who genuinely loves and respects them to pray for them. Prayer is a powerful and welcome tool in the Christian health provider's toolkit. Without question, Bill Morehouse is a master at it, but he didn't start that way. He got better at it over time. If you're not comfortable praying with your patients, reach out to Bill or any of us at . We can help you get the training you need to start having meaningful encounters where the presence of God is honored and where people sense his love and power in their lives. By the way, Bill typically saw 20 or more patients a day and still found time to pray for them. And his patients were no different in complexity or spiritual health than yours. My prayer is that you will grow in love, joy, and zeal for Christ and your patients and that you'll have the joy of seeing Christ be the savior and the answer to your patient's complex needs. If you want training, encouragement, and support, we're here to help. Visit our website, drop us a note, give us a call, come to a conference, and be part of this growing movement of living out the gospel through health care among those who are at risk and neglected. Thanks for listening. We hope you enjoy this podcast, follow, like and share with your friends! ___________________________________ CCHFTalk is a production of .
