Let's Start The New Year Off Right.
01/13/2024
Let's Start The New Year Off Right.
Often times we hear about “The Year In Review”, looking back at major events that have happened in the prior year. In our personal financial lives, this is also what we do during tax preparation. Filing taxes is literally putting together a personal “Financial Year In Review”, but we are planners. This is a show about planning. Planning is about looking forward and being proactive, not looking back, being historical, or being reactive. Certainly, we can gain some knowledge from history (maybe we should gain and retain a little more), but we have to plan ahead and keep moving forward. So, this is a show about the “Year In Preview” and some of the important topics and events we will cover in the year ahead. As you look forward to the approaching new year, ready to chart your course for 2024, the prospect of setting financial goals may be on your mind. Perhaps you're aiming to eliminate lingering student loans by the next holiday season or contemplating strategies to enhance your retirement plan. The answer lies in adopting a thoughtful approach and keeping key factors in mind from the outset. Giving & Gifting It is a Financial Christmas
12/16/2023
Giving & Gifting It is a Financial Christmas
’Tis the season for thinking of family and friends, for gifting, giving, and generosity. For the holidays, we generally think of bows and packages in wrapping paper. Of course, these gifts cost money and we should try to be responsible with the way we spend throughout the holidays. On a larger scale, we should also consider our ongoing financial impact through gifting and giving strategies to family, as well as any outside gifts, giving, or donations we make to charities, churches, or organizations. We are in the midst of what has been dubbed the “Great Wealth Transfer” as the accumulated wealth of one generation of Americans transfers to the next. We should think proactively and plan strategically for how our wealth will be effectively preserved, protected, and utilized both during our lifetime, and after. Let’s talk about planning for the holidays, planning for retirement, and gifting, giving, and donating our wealth. For more information on this and many other important financial topics, contact Ron Courser, CFP® at (616) 301-2581 and visit the website at .

2 Most Determining Factors For A Successful Retirement

2 Most Determining Factors For A Successful Retirement
You have always first and foremost had an income plan. When you set your alarm so that you get up to show up for work, put in your time and sweat equity to perform your tasks, and trade that time for money, that is your income plan. You plan to repeat that routine overtime to earn a living, manage your bills, and to support your ability to save for retirement. That is an income plan! The INCOME PLAN is what supports your lifestyle and your investment plan. The stability and predictability of the income you generate is what allows you to feel comfortable investing a portion of your money into accounts intended for years into the future during retirement. The income plan is what allows you to weather down market cycles without dramatic impacts to your lifestyle. The income plan is what provides you the means to have an investment plan at all. In both your working career and in retirement, you live on your income, not your assets, but the income plan is what you leave behind when you retire! You have to recreate it with assets! 2023 EP1014 | Ron Courser | In Service Distribution
One of the best opportunities to prepare assets for retirement occurs when we have the opportunity to access retirement accounts at 591/2. First, at age 591/2 you have the ability to pull from retirement accounts without the additional 10% penalty. If you need income to support yourself, this is the traditional milestone that allows you to utilize tax-deferred accounts like 401(k)’s and IRA’s. Additionally, more and more employer sponsored retirement plans are allowing participant employees to remove funds from the employer’s plan and reposition them to their own Individual Retirement Accounts, while still continuing to work and participate in future and on-going contributions, as well as continue to capture any company matching. This can be advantageous in offering the ability for a wider range and selection of investment options and selecting vehicles more appropriate for retirement goals. It also can allow for greater flexibility for things like the consideration of Roth conversions to manage taxes in retirement. In this episode, you can see what an average rate of return can do to an investment portfolio through the example graphics on the screen. Ron Courser, CFP®, explains and discusses the reasons behind potential issues that could arise if you stick with an average rate of return. However, there are indeed other alternatives instead of adhering to a singular outcome throughout retirement. This is because prices are not always going to remain the same for essentials like cars and groceries. Just this year alone, we witnessed eggs skyrocketing to $18 in price. Furthermore, Ron Courser, CFP®, delves into the possibility of experiencing losses despite your initial gains.
