Advancing Racialized Equity at Community Colleges: Lessons from California - July 30 In 1996, Proposition 209 in California banned the use of race in admissions across the state higher education system. This July 30, 2024, virtual OCCRL Equity Academy focused on understanding lessons from the West Coast to address the potential impact of the recent U.S. Supreme Court's decision on race-conscious admissions in the Midwest. The keynote speaker, Dr. Marissa Vasquez, as well as Lorenzo Baber, Ayinde Rochon, and Maria Wright, discussed their tools and strategies to support equitable access for racially minoritized students across higher education contexts.
