The Wise Jezebels
Wise Jezebels is a podcast hosted by Tia Levings and Laura Anderson. Tia and Laura grew up in fundamentalist, high control religion, got out and now have things to say! Each episode these two best friends will be talking about all the things they wish they would have known growing up, discuss pop culture, religious scandal, books, healing, and relationships. Each episode they will be talking with other experts, mental health practitioners, coaches, advocates, therapists and folks who have survived fundamentalist systems, to learn from their experiences and offer resources and support for healing.

The One Where We Talk About Church-Sanctioned Domestic Abuse (Re-release)
What do you when your church says abuse and mistreatment is okay? And that it’s not only ok, but it’s God’s design. And what if you’ve identified abuse in your relationship but now notice you’ve had the same experience in your church and maybe even what you’ve been taught about God? Is any faith community safe for women? Today’s episode explores church-sanctioned domestic abuse and intimate partner violence. We deconstruct that old saying, “Don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater and find the shades of gray. The One Where Sexual Assault Isn’t Funny
April is Sexual Assault Awareness month so we thought it was only fitting that we talked about pastors who make “jokes” about sex and how women should respond to men as a wifely obligation. If this sounds familiar to what’s been going around on social media with mega church pastor Josh Howerton, you’re correct! The Wise Jezebels break down how harmful that messaging is (and yes, we look at it in context at his followers request which, spoiler alert: makes it worse!) and how it creates dynamics in a relationship that are often difficult to come back from. We also check in on some pop culture topics and discuss how to address topics surrounding puberty after having grown up in purity culture! Stay fresh betches! The One Where We Talk About Virtue Signaling After Religion

The One Where We Talk About Virtue Signaling After Religion
It’s a growing trend now-a-days to take a strong stance on a given topic or issue in order to show where you stand, make sure you’re on the right side of the issue, and letting people know you’re a safe person. Is silence actually complicity? Is speaking out performative? Is the requirement to speak out and pick a side just another form of fundamentalism? We then get into Neandrathal DNA and holiday traditions and end with a conversation on getting back into the dating game when you have children. Remember to submit us your questions for our December Non-Consensual, Consensual Advice episode! Send them via DM or the contact form on our website. The One Where We Talk About Church-Sanctioned Domestic Abuse
Hey betches. It’s time to talk about friendships…and how difficult it can be to find friends, especially supportive ones, as an adult woman. Both of us share our experiences with friendships in high control religion, how love-bombing works in relationships even outside of high control religion and ways to find friends outside of church communities. We then get an update from Tia about how she’s liking the “Golden Bachelor” and we talk about Britney Spears’ new book coming out. And finally we share with you some fresh fruit–the progress we are seeing in ourselves as we continue healing from fundamentalism! Next week is our Non-Consensual Consensual Advice segment! On this episode of the Wise Jezebels, Tia and Laura are talking about diet culture and body image–as well as how their fundamentalist upbringing led them both to accidentally starve themselves, even when they were trying to intuitively eat! Please note that this episode contains sensitive topics and we understand if you need to skip this one! We also talk about how Laura finally got Tia into watching the Golden Bachelor (spoiler alert: one of us really likes it, one of us doesn’t!) and end the podcast with a discussion about Laura’s upcoming book which is available for pre-order currently and releases, worldwide, on October 17, 2023. The One Where We Talk About…Sweet Jilly Muffin Finding her Voice
Jill Duggar Dillard’s Counting the Cost tops off our second episode, as we deep dive into our impressions, triggers and takeaways. Jill’s memoir is not only the story of how Sweet Jilly Muffin found her voice against the IBLP and her exploitive, oppressive parents–it also offers a window into the Christian Patriarchy’s teachings about how children are to honor their parents even as married adults. We break down the red flags for abuse we found in the book, as well as what goes into writing trauma-memoirs. From there, Tia and Laura Pop Into Pop Culture with a look at the Jonas divorce and the lewd conduct of Lauren Boebart. Our Non-Consenual Advice segment answers a listener’s question–How do I tell my Catholic parents I don’t want to baptize my children?
